    Amazing video! So question, i have the same flash and i took some photos in the night, but they've come out to be partially black. Any idea what that would be? How do we sync the flash speed? I took them on an m4-2, f8, shutter between 30 and 60 (where the flash sign is).

    • @hunterjames.
      @hunterjames. Месяц назад

      Good question! This isn’t the strongest flash, so I would say you’d probably want to be closer to your subject than you think, if your shots are coming out underexposed. Otherwise use a flash sync cable with your M4-2 just to make sure everything is communicating correctly! I believe you’re using the right speed if the flash icon is selected - should be around 1/50th Then play with aperture from there to get the exposure you want!

      I think the lo-fi music choice for photographer is so common because it’s very non-distracting from the point of the videos 🤷‍♂️ I can try using other music but I don’t know if a photo walk pairs well with hard metal or bluegrass music 😂 Thanks for watching!!

    The Japanese seem so unconcerned with someone taking photos around them. In my country you'd get at least noticed even if shooting only with a phone.

    • @hunterjames.
      @hunterjames. 6 месяцев назад

      Japanese culture, from what I’ve learned by living here, is *generally* very inward. so people aren’t as concerned with what other people are doing unless it causes inconveniences or problems. I’ve definitely had people talk to me when I’m out photographing, but it’s more out of curiosity than hostility. It’s a great place to start practicing street photography!

    • @hunterjames.

      I highly recommend watching Trevor Wisecup! He handles confrontation very very well when he's in New York! I definitely learned a lot from watching his videos/interviews

    • @Elisha_the_bald_headed_prophet
      @Elisha_the_bald_headed_prophet 6 месяцев назад

      That's a valid concern but I find confrontation to be extreme and rare cases. I've only been confronted twice: once by a security guard who asked me to delete his photo, and another time by an elderly husband. Of course, even just capturing irritated looks can be off-putting. There are several strategies, some more some less surreptitious, to overcome this fear: pretending to be checking (on the screen) the result of a shot you just 'took' (through the viewfinder) of another subject entirely; festivals and other open-air events where people don't mind being seen/ending up in the news; offering to be the 'official photographer' at private venues and events; ultimately, asking for permission/saying you're trying out your camera/showing your portfolio; etc. It boils down to your personality and desire to interact with your subjects or not.

    • @hunterjames.

      @hunterjames. 7 месяцев назад

      Hey Alan! I’d love to make a video on that topic since street photography is always kind of in the ‘ethics’ conversation. I feel like I still don’t really know enough about the art form to talk about it from a point of authority quite yet. I’m still learning so much everyday that I go out and shoot, but I wouldn’t want to spread any misconceptions or misinformation. Once I have a better grasp on it, I’ll definitely make a video!

      Thanks so much haha! I’m glad they turned out relatively good, I did have to HEAVILY touch them up in Lightroom 🥲

    This is so sick, it’s so fun seeing what angles you are getting and what stands out for you to capture. Sick video! Also happy new year 🎉

    Sweet!! Question: when you say the Shibuya gov shut it down, does that mean each district of Tokyo has it's own government?

      Yeah!! The bigger districts essentially operate like little cities! complete with local government and bylaws. Which is why there was still a party in Shinjuku, because the government there didn’t cancel it!
