I'd like to agree to disagree with one of the commenters: from my experience lower middle class also take part in the gift exchanging activity. how much of a bother it is depends on so many factors it's hard to generalize... but creative solutions are out there you just need to be willing to think outside of the box some)) I love giving gifts, personal preferences are either DIY or buying a book, or buying a healthy activity participation ticket, and usually it' is some sort of a combination of the three. I DO NOT do crowded malls. Just NO. also, interestingly, my partner's friends do not feel any need to exchange any gifts when they meet up on birthdays or any meet ups, but they might bring some beer if it's at someone's home) so it really differs from social circle to social circle, even within same class\community\country)

Amazing! I have no better words to describe your videos. I've been searching for intermediate comprehensible Mandarin videos like these for a while now. Your way of integrating higher-level vocabulary in such a comprehensible way is absolutely perfect. It's hard to find a balance between videos that are sometimes too easy or too difficult when learning Mandarin using the comprehensible input method. Thank you so much for all your effort in creating these videos!

Nice video thanks. Plenty of good vocab and sentence structures but spoken clearly and slowly. Took me a long time to train the family out of the Xmas pressie roundabout. It’s basically a kids thing and all the family’s kids are adults now and now we just enjoy the food, drink and company. The other option is Kris Kringle where everyone buys and receives one present. Very Popular these days especially with work and non family groupings.

你 好 Jun 老师. 你 说的对. 我同意. 哪因为我的中文还不太好 我用英语表达我的想法😁. I agree. gift given should be something spontaneous. A thoughtful gestion. You think about this person and gift them Something you know they need or you know they would like because it is something they would buy for themselves. We don't need to wait for a specific date in th year to give someone we appreciate a gift. But like you said we are programmed by the system to the point that it has at times becomes a cold transaction that stresses and burdens us. We've become conditioned by the system. So we are forced on a specific day to buy and give things that the recipient don't even want or need. That's why returning unwanted gifts and exchanging them is a normal thing now. It has become a business indeed. That's why I don't wait for Xmas or birthdays to give a gift to someone I appreciate.
