What’s a good car (preferably hatch) to start with?
@@HarrisonHorton99999 A cheap, popular car is the best place to start. These days a Ford Fiesta or Suzuki Swift would fit the bill.
Dit you wiring the new ecu on the old loom or complete new engine loom? Keep up those videos i love them😍💪🏻
@@joeyhens6536 We used the old loom terminated and re_pinned into the new ECU. Thanks for watching and the feedback 👍.
Proper maintenance, always a good thing.
@@donfinch862 Absolutely 💯
lets get going!!
Where do you race?
State Rally Championship: Bakers Hill, Nannup, Donnybrook, Manjimup, Chidlow & Collie.
@@rallyactionwa Are there off-road tracks there?
@@HarrisonHorton99999 No roads or tracks are open to the public in any of those areas.
@@rallyactionwa sorry I forgot to delete that reply
i have a 2011 cadillac cts-v with stabletrack which can be turned off but it pretty much controls each wheel independently to keep the car from losing control. so i had to tee into both rear break lined then run a single li8ne into the handbreak then a single line out of the handbreak into another tee which connected both side rears together again. do you have any advice on this? it feels like the handbreak does not create enough pressure to lock up the rear tires
Advice? Not really. In our situation, we remove the oem brake lines/system and start with all new lines and plumbing. Teeing into an existing line or system could cause all sorts of problems, especially where ABS/CPS/Traction control is present.
Thanks, ara is doing a rallysprint on the west coast for the first time and I didnt know what a rallysprint even was. gonna be volunteering

good work. I'm building seat mounting rails into a starlet. This helps me a lot.
@@timtrial3971 thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for this info! So with my 1995 GC8 Impreza L 5-speed rally car, I’m guessing that system won’t be ideal for a handbrake hey?
@@TheLoamRanger depends on whether the car is 2wd or 4wd and whether it has disc or drum rear brakes. We've fitted plenty of these set ups to WRX models. Drum brake models can have a hydraulic handbrake fitted, however the rear brakes should be converted to disc.
Hai, can i install the hydraulic handbrake in my 2004 5mt wrx?
@@rz406 the reality is it can be installed in most cars. We've had no problems installing a hydraulic handbrake in a GD WRX like yours.

Great explanation and video.
Thanks for the great feedback and thanks for watching 👍
My GP N Lancer Evo II came with factory inter cooler sprayer that came off the windscreen washer bottle. Was very easy to use and always had start line people telling me I had a leak. Excellent video thanks very much
I remember the first time I saw the Mitsubishi set up on an Evo 3 at a WRC event in the mid 90's. I wondered why there were retic drippers constantly dripping water in front of the intercooler until I realised it was the water spray for the intercooler. Thanks for watching! 👍
could you do a detailed video on aftermarket turbo actuators? i just bought a GFB turbo actuator but finding very little well compiled reviews / tutorials online about them.
Thanks for watching. Are you asking about: 1.) an internal waste gate actuator, 2.) an external waste gate, 3.) a boost control solenoid or 4.) Electronic boost controller? We have experience with 1, 3 & 4. We're not allowed to fit external waste gates to rally cars so have never fitted one.
@@rallyactionwa specifically the turbo wastegate actuator ... the bit that bolts on to your standard td04 to control the wastegate, the one i bought is called (WGA 7304 Wastegate Actuator for WRX Applications) most videos online are promotional material not a lot explaining tuning or the advantages of running an aftermarket one.
@@hakology OK. We'll see what we can do.
Thanks for making these videos! Hitting some good points of information! Keep these coming;)

What would happen if you forgo the biased proportioning valve? Would pulling the hydro at that point fully lock up the rear??
Without a bias valve, pressing the brake pedal even under normal braking conditions may result in locked up rear wheels. The hydraulic handbrake should lock the rear wheels regardless of a bias valve.
@@rallyactionwa I see! so the proportioning valve you have fitted in the cabin works independently of the hydraulic handbrake?
@@raycadbury yes correct.
Looking good! I've done a few arduino car projects and for the jumper wires after testing I've soldered my wires to a pin header so it ends up as a long single plug. Seems to be a bit more solid connection than single jumpers. Looking forward to upcoming videos as I'm getting ideas for my GC8👍
Thanks for watching 👍 We actually re-pinned our jumper wires into long multi pin plugs as well. It definitely makes a difference over single pin jumpers.
Great work. It's going to be a nice car. The arduino board has current limiting, or are you fitting fuses or similar? I thought the PDM would be doing headlights etc. I may have missed your explanation. Cheers
Thanks for watching 👍. The PDM is a breaker & switch for some circuits, breaker only for others. The Arduino & it's relays are protected by the PDM.
How is the forester suspension holding up?
We're not using Forester suspension. We're using STD gravel rally suspension made specifically for an Impreza WRX. 🙂
I have a pump like yours and i Will mount it whith hard lines do you know if i can mount it upsidedown? The hardline passes under the car and it Will Be easy to make less curves in the hard lines.
The handbrake master cylinders are not designed to be mounted upside down. It's likely you will have trouble with bleeding and/or correct operation of the brakes.
I'm considering doing this kharnaCross car it is still road registered at the moment, considering swapping rear callipers for late model ones with electronic handbrake for parking. Hydro with dccd for turning electro for parking
That may work if the brakes will fit. Depends on the model(s) you planning to do the swap on. Some hub/rotor/caliper combinations are not easily interchangeable.
@rallyactionwa late model Subaru to 2007 outback from what I've seen a lot of late model cars use TRW electro e brake callipers with different brackets for different models.
thanks for sharing :) love the videos! edit: a big chunk of heat shrink around the extra wiring where it exits the case might be a good idea
Thanks for watching! Ps:The cables are mostly double insulated from the factory. As the plugs are all pre-terminated it's also impossible to get heat shrink over them that will shrink down tight enough to hold the cables. To stop movement and potential damage, all the cables are tied together in a bundle at the back of the ECU. Then when the ECU is fitted in the car, we cable tie the bundle to OEM wiring to secure it in place. We've found this works well to stop wires rubbing on the ECU housing.
@@rallyactionwa cool nw and gl with the rest of the build :) i thought you may have been able to feed the JST connectors through a piece ... but as long as they dont flap about much they should be ok :)
Thank you for another awesome video! Everytime I get the notification that you uploaded, I get genuinely excited, so keep up the amazing work! All the best wishes from Germany, I'm already looking forward to the next one :)
Thanks for watching and the kind words!
good job guys !

How about rally WA runs it like ARC and have a production category as well as overall?
The 2024 regs have just come out. There is a production category this year. 👍
Enjoying the series. Have a 05 sti body and have been thinking about doing this to out the car back together. You happen to uave a build sheet? Roll cage welding points and design? Thanks
Thanks for watching. We've filmed some more progress, just have to find some time to edit it! Should be out soon. We have build specs for each car. Cage & safety must conform to the local Motorsport authority/FIA so the design & specs are largely determined and designed for us.
Enjoying the series, any chance you could do a build sheet
There absolutely should be limitations, weight, power and tech needs to be kept below a limit to make the playing field even. That means checking the cars before competition to enforce rules.
Great little machine that could do with more recognition. Cleans even better with a turbo nozzle. I got mine about 3 yrs from Bunnings. It sat in the shed for 2 yrs but crank after 2 pull start yesterday. Amazing!
Yeah they are great little machines. Ours is still going strong 💪.

No!! Banning cars is the dumbest thing a governing body could ever do. CAMS back in the day drove so many people out of the sport it wasn’t funny. Best thing is to use air restrictors to close the field up. Make small changes on the run and keep it competitive. Keep it simple. Rules should be set so the BOP is done mathematically and on procedure and not to the discretion of the organisers. That way it takes the accusations of favouritism out of it.
All Group n cars or one make championships back in the day created great competition which even a clubman team on a budget could afford.
As a spectator/road closure official/photographer this is proposing removing the most exciting and appealing photography opportunities with the hugely dynamic body language of the vehicle. Why punish the spectators
It's a similar issue with the massive issues facing tarmac rally competition in Australia at the moment. My opinion is probably very unpopular, but that's nothing new.... We need to find a polite way to get the orthodontists, orthopedic surgeons, hedge fund managers, IT Contractors, lawyers and Daddy's Race Team etc to either buy less expensive cars and have just as much fun, or get them to move-up to higher level competition where they will either sink or swim regardless of budget. IMO the recent fatalities in Targa Racing were in a small part a result of very wealthy blokes in their 50's, 60's or even older buying state-of-the-art 600HP German Beetles, for more than half million taco shells, and then entering complex/difficult events like Targa Tasmania, WITHOUT twenty or thirty years of karts, club cars, gymkhana, whatever under their belts. Their grass-roots resumes are a little "thin". It's like rocking up to Commonwealth Games and swimming against the pros, just because you can afford a big pool at home. Older blokes with less-than-stellar reflexes, skills and experience in scalpel sharp supercars on narrow, wet roads and a big shiny chrome trophy has proved to be an unfortunate combination. I know there's a lengthy license process, but those with excess coin can get through it faster when they're focused on getting to "first grade" as quickly as possible. Entry fees and tyre consumption are no handbrake for these racers. But more importantly, the whole point is being missed. You can have just as much fun in a 20 year old WRX. Or an XR6 Falcon. Or an old classic. Yeah, you could die in those cars too, but they are theoretically more forgiving when you run out of talent. (I'll just put my flame suit and helmet on now, while everyone loads up to shoot down my awful judgmental comments)
As someone who organises a clubman’s rally (in NZ) I’ve seen an Evo 3 lancer beat the likes of AP4 cars on a blind event 7 years in a row. To me it’s not a question of modern cars v older cars because it doesn’t really matter at all at a regional level. It’s always been a mixed field of guys and girls either having a skid or chasing the championship in whatever you can afford to run, you need all these people to turn up to keep running events. Getting rid of newer AP4 cars and the like would remove a part of the field that you need.
Bring back group G!
Cheers fella. You nailed it. Thank you.
Cheers 👍
Thanks for another great video and coverage of each event. Any more onboards? 👍
Cheers for watching and the great feedback 👍. We have plenty more in car footage, however just balancing what we have to match the story.
Thanks. Can drivers still claim dust time?
Not exactly. Dust holds (extra time between cars) can only be applied by the checker/organisers before a stage starts. Once the first car has started, the gap remains the same throughout the field. Some competitors do opt to book in late gaining a penalty to have a larger gap between cars.
Thank you.
No problemo 👍
great camera work of the Mike's Lancer ..oh, by me! Great video btw Karl.
Thanks mate!
Thanks for the videos, very much enjoying them! Could you possibly give us some more information on the shocks and springs you chose for the project? or even just model numbers to look up?Cheers!
Thanks for watching & the great feedback 👍. The suspension is STD 50mm remote canister gravel suspension.
I don't have a Subaru, but your rally build videos are really helpful for my car and there isn't much on RUclips like this.
Awesome! Regarding the GD chassis (2000 - 2007), it's also the case the Base chassis = WRX = STI ? And in the Wagon case is everything bolt on too? Another question, in the GC case, the 2 door and Wagon are also bolt on? Thanks!!
The GD chassis WRX & STI are the same. The GG wagon platform is the same, however all rear panels including rear doors are different. GC & GF platforms are the same and all doors are the same. 2 door & 4 door mechanical parts and all are interchangeable.
