In fact, it's been so puzzling to me. When it happened to my husband, I researched it. And I still can't figure it out. But yay, your comment is here! I so value you. And thank you for sharing such inspiring words of how the Lord will share and warn for some time - I wonder sometimes if it's to help several generations in a row in case parents weren't teaching it upon hearing the warning when first given? Oh, dear Maryann, I read your comments last night and wanted to spend time contemplating and praying regarding your experiences before responding. First of all, what an amazing experience for your dad to have had that! I'm also so sorry for the heartache you have experienced, and I'm also so impressed with the beauty of what your young daughter when 3-years-old experienced. I believe she will come back to the fold. And I will be praying for you to feel the arms of the Savior wrapped around you during all of this. Jesus Christ is amazing, and I'm grateful for your example of loving Him. And you also have reminded us how serious Lucifer is; you expressed that so well. You've also blessed us with your comment because in coming days, we know that the winds will be blowing fiercely and Satan will try to do the same against all of us. As we hold onto the love that Jesus offers, like you're doing, so much will come by way of strengthening power from God. You are doing this, you are succeeding! You are being an example of holding on to Christ by sharing how you're studying the messages of His servants, loving, savoring the scriptures, and so much more. One day the storm will be over and our hearts will rejoice with such depths of gratitude for Christ's enabling power and all that we gained by way of understanding (even though just so searing at times during the midst of it all). I often ponder how Christ Himself experienced that rigorousness Himself while here, and I think we become deep and reflective servants of His steadiness as we seek and follow His example of steadiness, becoming ever more steady and sure as the years go by. What do you think? Your wisdom from your experiences is blessing us all. (And I sometimes wonder how deep our love for the Lord would be without the testing of it? I'm not sure, and I'd love to know your thoughts.) I have a special episode coming up of miracles that will air on January 11th that I think you'll love. And you are being such a powerful example, Bill! And I think you've described so well here - so beautifully - the contrast or difference between two principles: self-concept and self-esteem. In the communication studies world, researchers have noted that when we know who we are - such as you've expressed here as a child of God - this is called self-*concept* (as opposed to external prizes, recognitions, temporary moments). Within that dawning and deep discovery of self-concept (the day we discover we are connected to God and His eternal familiy) there is peace and quiet and certitude that all is well, regardless of what is happening outside of us. That is self-*concept*, and you've given such a great example of the joy of that! And as a result, when we discover our true selves, we become humble yet certain in our path. (As opposed to what researchers call self-*esteem*, which can feel uncertain and shaken when external things vanish, such as job positions, not winning an award, not receiving the grade we thought, etc. And the danger of self-esteem (as opposed to self-concept) is that when recognition does come, sometimes it can lead to pride (not for everyone, but it's kind of normal at first :). Which is why Elder Bednar's words are so wonderful because pride - however it comes - seems to be part of mortality to experience, it seems). It seems like wordplay, and yet the concepts are so deep! I'll see if I can find an article that explains it even more fully. If I find it, I'll come back here to share it. But self-concept is a profoundly different focus than what the world so often offers. I really appreciate how you've shared such a beautiful example of loving, honoring and respecting the divinity within us. And when we fully (or begin to) grasp that deep understanding of being a priceless child of God, balanced humility and service moves in instinctively. Because we recognize all are! And that is where peace seems to reside, as we have that connection with others. I so value that you shared. Thank you.
