This Resolve Plugin takes film emulation to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!!!
This was painful
I have a Panasonic s5 and sigma fp both are great
i hear good things about the FP!
Thank you, SIR!!!
🫡
thanks for showing all the flare problems. reminds me of a long time ago, when video was SD, JVC made the KY-17 1/2" 3CCD camera. low end "pro" ENG style camera that had massive veritcal smear anytime ANY light got into a shot, just like this lens does horizontally, but way worse.
ahah i’ve used that camera!
The S1 shoot BRAW to the Black Magic Video Assist, and the S1 has open gate.
S1 do be goated!
But S5 have time code sync which I think S1 still doesn't have
Yes the S5 and S1 are better than the FX3 in every way except autofocus.
Great video! I bought a sony a6400 last year, and just a few months ago I found out about the S5. I wish I had heard about it sooner. The a6400 was a good camera to get into video, a step up from my DSLR, but it's just not good enough for most work, and now that I'm doing mini docs and photos and videos for clients, I've really been looking at the S5. Is there any lag with using the app on your phone? I know my sony has a ton of lag and disconects a ton. Also can you use lumix lab and photo LUTs? Earned a subscribe.
there’s very slight lag with the app but it doesn’t matter too much for me. not sure what lumix lab is but yes to those photo LUTs! i think you can make 4 in camera
@ Thanks! Lumix lab app is their new app for the S9’s photo luts I think… I wouldn’t be surprised if the s5 didn’t have it.
@@OttoFilmStudios I think the s5II X has it but not the original S5
If you need slowmo the s5 basically is an apsc camera. Its not full frame.
apart from the full frame 180 fps i suppose… 🤷♂️
@WhiteJadeProductions nothing over 30fps on s5 is full frame.crop starts with 4k60
@@andersistbesser except the 1080p 180 which upscales great
5:34 Using a dummy battery on an FX3 is highly inadvisable and explicitly unsupported by Sony. I've seen horror stories of fried cameras after using sketchy gear. The USB-C port on the FX3 DOES support USB-C power delivery during operation, and you really should be doing that along with using its internal battery, so you have a backup in case cables jiggle or the V-mount depletes.
you are correct however it has more power draw than applied power so unless you turn it on to charge it will die
I've been considering getting this camera because I want to start doing photography more and I only have the BMCC6K FF (which I love and do not intend to sell) so thank you for making this video lol
glad ya liked it!
The s5 is close to $2k in Canada.
Trudeau really making it rough for film makers up there I suppose
no wonder they stopped producing these lens.
They just stopped making amber and blue flare versions. it's just marketing because the silver flare is the most popular
Great video! First of all I 100% agree. „Not sponsored & no money changed hands & I get to say what I want“ = biased review. Wheater we like it or not. I am looking forward to the blazar apex with AF. Maybe you will review them honestly one da too. You earn a sub
i appreciate it! i probably won’t get the apex lenses. i’m not a big AF guy
I think I just stumbled into the best introduction video to a channel ever.
appreciate it!!
Your audio is fantastic! What mic did you use? And what did you do in post production?
I used the Holland Lark M2 mics and just a little EQ and compassion in post
I have lumix s5iix , and I found a set of 4 Nikon lenses on Facebook marketplace. Does the auto focus work when you adopt them?
unfortunately the AF won't work but manual focus is always an option!
You should get a blue or silver to borrow next time you're indoors and see if they flare less with warm lighting.
unfortunately they all flare the same no matter the flare color but with controlled lighting it wouldn’t be an issue
@@WhiteJadeProductions Ah darn, I was hoping the blue streaks in a blue lens would be just the blue light being reflected rather than the full spectrum somehow.
But how does it fare against the Sigma fp? I was already set on buying that one and now i see this video x/ Edit: I think the problem is that this camera is way too expensive compared to the Sigma fp. To record raw you need to buy the BM camera assist, without it the quality is inferior. Even when the sigma fp has its own limitations, for the same high quality the price is way cheaper with the sigma.
personally the black magic assist is a better move (since it’s a phenomenal monitor anyways). braw is a better codec and has WAY less hassle than the workflow from the FP. Vlog is also one of the best log formats imo
For once someone who shoots all b roll with the actual camera they are talking about.
just being honest and straight up 🫡
Im new to Lumix S5/S5II/S5IIX -- loving the images & video it produces. For me its the perfect camera. Not a professional, but someone that just having fun shooting photos and video--simply just to make art.
sounds like ya made a good choice!
Your video is dangerous. It is poisonous. Hahaha i’m influenced to consider this camera. 😊
it’s a good one!
You said it works as wide as 28mm? On full frame? I've seen somewhere that they recommend no wider than 42mm on full frame.
maybe that’s what the recommend however when using lenses with larger image circles it can certainly go wider that 42mm on full frame
@ thanks for confirming!
About the adapter, you can NOT adapt sony lenses to L mount. Sony's flange distance is 18mm and Lumix is 20mm. You can use Lumix lenses theoretically on Sony cameras but not the other way around. The problem with lumix is the limitation of lenses sadly
mmm kinda sorta. most lenses allow you to focus “past infinity” so you can still achieve infinity focus when adapting to L mount. also if you’re gonna adapt to L mount it rarely is from sony glass. there’s lots of better cheaper options from sigma and other companies. it’s one of the most versatile mounts
Someone sell your S5 for 650 with good condition
get this man a camera!
HI,is it possible to film in VFR like in gh5 I ?and how many bits color?Cause GH5 only alows 8 bit in VFR.Thank's
i’m not sure about that
Been loving my s5 for 18 months now, I got it for all the anamorphic goodness it offers. I record onto an atomos ninja inferno (bit of a beast, but it was cheapish!) for ProRes, as on pc, free version of resolve won’t work with the 422 10 bit internal files the s5 creates. I also prefer the ProRes a lot over the internal h.265 for 50/60p in apsc mode that I use for wildlife. Cool video, thanks!
def a good setup there for what ya do!
since when got the original S5 anaorphic stabilisation? isnt it only in the s5ii and s5iix?
nope it’s had it for a hot minute. i think it’s 1.3, 1.33, 1.5, 1.8, and 2.0 which is nice
How about terrible (only contrast based) AF in Lumix S5 ? Forgot to mention? 😁
i mentioned manual focus is pretty much the only option here. for photos it’s okay but ur right video af is trash but when using cinema lenses there isn’t any af anyways so 🤷♂️
This is def a caveat. I got a cheap Fuji x-t100 to take some shots rafting and at the beach and the bad AF is really getting to me. Depends what you are going for.
@@teahousereloaded for photos the af is fine. if you need good video af the S5 II and S5 IIX are great options with solid af
The AF isn't that bad if you know what settings to use.
Just when I wanted to buy a camera I dont really need and cant really afford... No but thank you for reminding us that the gear we have is more than enough. By the way, is is really possible to power the Lumix S5 with usb c? I thought it only could charge the battery while the camera is off?
that’s what it says and it is true however it takes power from a vmount while powered on if there is an actual battery in the camera!
@ oh that’s awesome! Thanks man🙏
kondor blue sells a good dtap to usb-c PD (power delivery) cable. Basically all you need is something that can deliver a PD charge over usb c
@@WhiteJadeProductions Btw, would love to see a rigging video of the S5
@@alexanderjohanssonamigos might cook one up soon
The 4k 60 crop is why I sold it. I kept the S1 for photography though and when I want a full frame look. The S1 just feels like a tank and the S5 felt a little fragile, especially with that micro HDMI. Also the focus peaking is soooo hard to see in Vlog. I guess someone recommended to use yellow, I'll try that out. And the lack of Auto White balance Lock is a real let down, especially since they gave that to the s5II as an incentive to buy which means the older models will probably never get it in a firmware update. I think there's weird stuff like lack of 24 FPS in 1080p, but there's 30fps? Lots of little things that could be corrected easily in firmware if lumix would be willing. Also the high speed video mode doesn't do a 24p export if I recall, also 30p, which makes it unusable for many projects. If you just want some great 4k 24p though, it's got really good dynamic range and is still highly ranked. The image is quite nice and 10 bit is great for color grading.
totally feel that! it’s a more specific use case camera but for the price who can complain!
Depending on the camera to do the processing for you is expensive
Crazy good grade! What was your workflow?
low key this was so long ago i’m not 100% sure ahahah. it was likely just prim, hsl, curve, sat, radial blr, ts, blur, and a lot of fine tuning
great video, did you use it outdoor video shooting?
yup! i’ve used it outdoor quite a bit and i can even keep my sunglasses on when shooting which is nice
Great video
thanks!

... if you pretend sharpness at T2 with a 1000 dollar Ana lens ... you don't understand the basics of optics, this happens with every lens the cheaper you go the more pronounced it gets
true true
liked for the subtle fx3 shade
subscribe cause there shall be more 👹
@jayandmack use this Blazars for weddings. I like the character of these lenses
Amazing. You spelled a hidden truth that a few (if nobody) were telling. Also the S5 mark 1 with atomos ninja V gives exactly the same prores raw 5.9k than the markII and markII X, with El Zone if you like and want to expose with anamorphics, because is a known issue that waveform disappears when de-squeezing. I think cinemadng is very good, you can select decompressed raw version that gives a quality very on par with Arri (taking away the fact that Arri cameras work with more dynamic range). And when you use it in a mac silicon with Davinci and a thunderbol NVMe disc, it delivers, even with lots of nodes. Thanks once again for shedding light on this kind of subjects.
of course!!
I have the S! With Black Magic Video Assist, ABSOLUTELY STUNNING image! Plus the S1 has open gate.
bruh whoever recommended that camera set you up for some good footage
bro came in clutch with that recommendation (thank goodness i didn’t go with canon)
Interesting take and honestly sounds like maybe you need to shim or you have a bad set. I have the A set and can shoot wide open with a Glimmerglass filter on and still have a sharp image on both the 45 and 65. Granted I often shoot between 2.8-4 but I’m not having the issues you’re saying and I always have a Glimmerglass filter on. My CA is pretty minimal unless I’m under the most extreme conditions. I’m also not getting that extreme flaring that you’re getting from those tiny lights. I could list my own cons from the lens that most others would also agree with but they are not really the ones you’re struggling with. Secondary green flares, slight swimming effect under certain conditions, not enough overall character in the center of the image, etc… would be my cons.
when using pro mist filters CA tends to be a whole lot less noticeable. I've actually started shooting at T2.4 with a 1/4 of black mist and it looks great!
Can we use a follow focus with it ?
yup ya sure can!
Viltrox DC X3 is metal build, has both SDI and HDMI and a better UI. Thats would be my pick. But great video non the less
if you have sdi it’s definitely the better pick!
ANDYCINE X5 is also metal build, and it support 4K up to 60Hz, and X2/X3 only 30HZ. X5 only 179.99 but X2 cost 238USD.
solid review. for just a few more bucks im leaning towards the Viltrox DC-X2.
understandable since its brighter and slightly bigger but I believe the viltox monitor is only 8 bit color and plastic. its a phenomenal outdoor monitor for sure!
@@WhiteJadeProductions so, this is 10 bit? I didnt catch that
@@SebasSant87 Technically yes. a little complicated but technically yes. it's more for it's 3D LUT support.
ANDYCINE X5 is also metal build, and it support 4K up to 60Hz, and X2/X3 only 30HZ. X5 only 179.99 but X2 cost 238USD.
Not sure if you have yet but you do also have to shim them on a lens projector (Rental houses will normally let you use theirs), it does make a difference. I can use my 65mm wide open after shimming properly, it's still better at T2.8 for sure but I could not use it wide open before shimming. I know Blazar have said they are shimmed from factory and even comented that its peoples camera mounts / adaptors that are out - Which could be the case for some people - But we found 4 of the 6 origional A-Set lenses we bought needed shimming. So did the 35mm and 2 of the 3 in the B-Set we bought did as well - so it's not just the A-Set. The B-Set are also much sharper in general, if it werent for the similar CA I'd say the B-Set almost look like lenses from a different product range when it comes to sharpnes IMO. It's a real shame Blazar don't encorage shimming because I see so many people stopping down further than they'd need to and posting shots that look frankly 'spherical' with black bars (I'm obviously being a bit dramatic, but stay with me) because people are shooting these at T4-5.6 at the FASTEST! Maybe that's just revealing about my taste though in fairness.
that’s a typical anamorphic range for stopping down (def not at the fastest lol) i tested mine and it doesn’t need shimming but that’s in part to not using an adapter with rear lens filters. that’s most peoples issues
@@WhiteJadeProductions No worries! I think there are a few generalizations in there for stopping down and the type of adaptors people use typically. I think I can firmly say I've seen different. In the professional spaces I typically work in people are shooting closer to T2.8 even anamorphic uness they're shooting closeups, TV shows or on film where live monitoring for focus can be more challenging and they're working with cameras that have internal NDs or straight passthrough adaptors. The adaptors with filters bult-in tend to be a bit expensive for most people and then also lower quality for the more high end shooters that can afford them. But thats OK! It can be a bit subjective! I think the main point is that people should deffo shim if they havent! :) great videos BTW!
Actual footage that is not at the end / linked ..... will get you more views and likes,
Is this a paid ad for the monitor?
naw. they didn’t even ask for a youtube video about it. i probably wouldn’t have liked it as much as i did if it weren’t for the included battery, cables, and case. just my own thoughts. i only recommend gear i use.
Excellent review 🔥
thanks!
Cool video!
thanks!
good video you soulless demon
Compares series c panavision to suiri 1.25 . Pump the brakes
naw more the taking lens has a similar look but def not on the same level lol. it’s about as close as you can get on a budget tho
@@WhiteJadeProductions it's way more freedom to mix an match. Adapters like this or anamorphic projection glass are gonna get you a way more distinctive look than these new all in one anamorphic lenses, tempting form factors aside. Would be interesting to rent and compare aviascope, or la7200.
