@@joeheckenkamp3008 Thanks!
Awesome!
Thanks! I always feel so blessed when I get a fish
Very practical approach, love the drawing!
Lol. Thanks. I need to sketch stuff out because I'm a very visual person and helps me understand the flow of electricity. Glad it helped!
Thank you! My board went bad in our tiny home on wheels. We ordered the two Amazon boards you suggested for $8 Canadian, installed one: works like a champ! Many thanks for making this video dude!
Glad I could help!
Beautiful! This is great.
Question. If you didn’t get the switch…will the fan start in exhaust mode or blow mode? Because I only really need it to suck air out (ie exhaust)
It depends how you wire it. If you connect the black wire to hot it will rotate the motor one way if you connect the black wire to ground it will rotate the opposite direction
@@dugheckenkamp4047 okay thanks. I think I’ll just wire it for exhaust and leave it that way.
@@dugheckenkamp4047 actually one more question. I see the ones linked are 2amp, but someone mentioned it should be higher like 10amp. Is that corrrect?
@@medicman9053 if you have a 10 amp that would be better this motor draws anywhere from 0.2 amps to 4 amps at highest speed. I've been using The circuit board in the video since I've posted the video and it's still going strong no problems.
So I did this fix and the fan at top speed is very slow more like the first setting. Is there something I could have done wrong?
Try hooking the motor up directly to 12 volts and see if you get maximum speed if you don't then there's something wrong with your motor if you do then work back from there making sure that you are hooking everything up right. You may have a bad rheostat on your circuit board.
@@dugheckenkamp4047 thanks so much I'll try that out! Good thing they come in pairs of two if that is it lol
Open the vent and blast a 20in. box fan. Problem solved.
Hey, Dug! How about the camping permits? How does that work? The information I found was that you can't camp wherever you want and you need to book the places where you're allow to do that in advance. From your video this information is not clear. Could you please advise on this?
It sounds like you are talking about Maui. Im on the big island and it's way more chill here. There's tons of places to camp and boondock without a camping permit or prior reservations. Check out my website and you will find an example of my exclusive island map. All my photos on my website and IG are places I've stayed.

How long have you used those dimmers? Was reading the description and it says 2a max and something about .5a continuous. I thought these fans pulled like 4amps. Just was curious.
Several years now. Still going strong!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I just installed mine and it works only if I turn the nob until half way. If I want more power, the thing shuts off and I have to turn off and turn on again. Any idea on why it's happening? I'm really dumb with electricity
Thank you so much! My MaxFann failed and just installed this solution! And it work again😊😊
This is an amazing solution. Easy to do. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!

@@LaurenceBergeron-Gosselindid you get this same switch? Sounds like it may be a lower amperage switch or you have more than 12 Volt going to it.
So true regarding damage due to Roundup!
I cant believe they allow that shit to be made
Do you have a web site?
Yes.. www.bigislandcampers.com
I like Big Island Campers!!
Excellent Dug, thank you!!
Let me know if you have any questions
Awesome fix Dug!!
Did you put a reversible switch in too?
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for the feedback.
yo, you used a 2a controller? Are they still working? These should be moreblike 10a at least right?
No somebody else used a 2amp. I forget from memory what it is but it's closer to 20 amp . It's in my rental campervan so it's used all the time
@@dugheckenkamp4047 ok, well, the link on Amazon shows a 2 amp controller. But if it's working, it's working, I will try these and order two other ones as backup. I live in Mexico it's hard to get these but I'm in the states for 10 days
Yesssaaah!
Nothing
How much to camp there?
Are you still living in the van in Hawaii? I’m thinking about doing this over there. Thanks!
Yes! Come give it a try in one of my vans. Www.Bigislandcampers.Com
Mine beeping dead too, I was thinking of the same thing, but have not actually done it yet. Great way to save $$$, I don't use all the fancy functions anyways, just pull air out
I got a new circuit board ($75) but I'm having a helluva time accessing the wire connections. Whoever originally installed the fan tucked one of the connections up in the spray foam insulation. Nightmare
If you have access to both the negative and the hot wire you can always cut them and connect the new wires to them. You don't have to access the plug
@@dugheckenkamp4047 ok I thought about that but wasn't sure it would be a good option. Thanks for this. I think adding connections is what it's going to come to.
I ordered the parts. Before I start, I’m wondering if once installed the air will blow outside or inside the van?
It depends on which way you hook up the wires to the motor. If you hook it up one way it'll blow in if you hook it up the other way it'll blow out. If you put a double pole double pole switch in line you can easily switch it from in to out.
Worked perfectly thank you !
I’ll purchase two more parts for when the other fans break
Did you hook up the switch as well?
Thank you. This is an economical quick solution 👍🏼
You're welcome! Check out some of my other videos.
please share the link of the product
I shared the links in the comments. I'll try to figure out how to share it in the text
I just figured out how to add the links in the description 😊

What’s the item# on Amazon for the switch/circuit board?
Just posted. Let me know if you have any other questions
I've been racking my brain, looking for a switch on Amazon! The only question I have is the 2 amp rating on the recommended switch enough? I was looking for at least a 10 amp controller, but they were to big to fit into the area of the old circuit board. Glad I found this video!
2 amp may not be enough. Check the description for a 20 amp switch
@@dugheckenkamp4047 Thanks, I ended up buying a 20 amp max switch. Although it's a little bigger, I made it work 👍
Coming to the big island on about July 6. Looking to vancamp
www.bigislandcampers.com. I give you an awesome map of tons of camping spots around the island
What about the lifter motor? I suspect you could use a momentary two-way contactor to raise and lower the exhaust assembly.
Also, seeing the product you linked below, I might think that it needs to be a little higher amperage rated to be safe. It may burn out in time, but going up to a 5A product should be much more robust.
You can crank it by hand
@@mjmdiver1137 it's been working great for several months now.
Do you have the link for the circuit board?

See if this works
Does the switch change motor direction ?
@@deonmcdaniel7123 the circuit board that I used and gave you the link for will provide a variable speed controller in One direction. In order to change directions the polarity needs to be switched. If you want to be able to have the fan go in either direction you would have to wire in a switch that reverses polarity. DPDT switch or relay.
MGI SpeedWare Latching Metal Toggle Switches, 20 Amp at 12vDC 125vAC, 6-Pin DPDT ON/Off/ON 1-Pack a.co/d/9LBTgEc
Bro cheers! here in Aus my MaxxAir was $450, and the replacement board is $277, not including shipping... ridiculous. Bought a button board replacement for $11 and am going to test to see if that is main culprit for the fan dying out of know where first, hopefully should be here this week or next. But I might as well just buy these and keep it in case it is in fact the board that is dead. I don't use the auto temp setting so I don't need that. Only question is how would you make it do both exhaust and intake? I guess I'll have to see if there is a board similar that allows this feature too, as that's hell important to me haha Do you mind if I share this on the Australian Toyota HiAce Campervan, and Vanlife Aus pages?
To make it to both exhaust and intake you'd have to have a switch that switches the polarity it's not that hard all you're doing is switching the wires around. Feel free to share wherever
Yeah the prices are ridiculous, that's why I was stoked to find the cheap replacement and felt that I should share.
@@dugheckenkamp4047omg would be great if you could do video on that. I'm usless when it comes to these things an unless I see it done I have no hope. Bless u for any assistance you can give.😊
@@rosemarythyme3510 ruclips.net/video/957PQfjLiiM/видео.html Here is a video I found that explains it. You need what's called a double pole double throw switch. When it is switched in One direction it will turn the motor clockwise when it is switched in the other direction it'll turn the motor counterclockwise. All it's doing is switching the positive and negative on the motor.
Thank you so much h. Sounds like the switch I got so I can turn main lights on and off from kitchen and bed area.. Your a gem 💎. Thank you so much. Love from Ireland 🇮🇪

From former Dug-van renters: Dug and his camper van were awesome! First of all, Dug was a kind, informative and responsive host when we were in need of assistance. The van felt very comfortable and safe, even compared to some of the Airbnb's we stayed at during our trip. The vehicle drives really well, the mattress is so comfortable, the electric cooler/fridge kept our poke fresh for two days without a problem, and the vent and dimming-light system made our nights very relaxing. Lastly, the stove and kitchen supplies were very well stocked. I would recommend renting out Dug's van any day.
Thanks Adrian! I'm glad you and your, now future wife, had such a good experience. Congratulations on the successful proposal on your Hawaii vacation. 🎉💐🎊
