First test run with coolant and yes there's a leak and yes it's my fault! Temporary coolant system set up for heater hoses and steam vents.

This video is the follow up to the previous that revealed the tach was bad. Here we use a potentiometer to get proper resistance for the tach and you.
LS tach signal and proper resistance for your Gauge.

How to find the proper resistance your tachometer desires using a potentiometer to select the correct resistor... We actually ended up doing troubleshooting and found an issue...and how to verify the PCM is sending a tach signal.
LQ4 First real cold start
Просмотров 203 года назад
Now that the PCM has had a few starts under its belt and I have ran it up to temp a few times, it's time to see a cold start. Getting the engine to start without any throttle input and getting it to idle on it's own are the main objectives.

    Hey I’m looking at ordering a potentiometer on Amazon it has 3 wires coming off of it. Red, White and Black. Red would be 12v which wire would be for the tach itself White or Black?

    I Have msd 6al-2 and tach adapter feeding original 70 falcon tacho and its about 35% low, could this same mod correct my issue 🤔

    Obviously this is a joke. The pump is bad and I immediately replaced it. I surely don't want to mislead anyone. Specifically on a Jeep Commander 3.7L. 130k miles

    got a C50 diesel tach to install in my C10/6L LS my after market tach work fine setting at 4 cylinder....what do you recommand fot ressitor ( or potentiometer) to match the diesel tach (feed by the alternator originaly) and the tach signal output from the LS PCM? thx and nice work on your video

    Had a jeep commander just like that but it was gold and had a hemi....with the awd that thing got the worse gas mileage than my cts-v that has a supercharger. ....but damn it was a nice riding and unsuspecting jeep....very plush and luxurious......the jeep would get 165/180 mi per tank , the cts-v 200/210 if your lucky

    My #10 tach wire give off 12v with key off engine off...I tried the resistor trick with no luck, does it matter what end of the resistor gets the switched power.......1k ohm 1/4 watt resistors.....do you think 10k ohm will work...I'm using a summit digital 3"3/8 tach

      If the signal wire from the tach is showing 12vdc with ignition and engine off the tach may be bad. there shouldn't be power on the signal wire with ignition and engine off. Verify you have the tach wired correctly. If this proves to be true, your tach may be faulty. Lastly, do not skip straight to a 10k resistor. you will likely jump over what you need. remember the resistor simply slows electron flow. In this tech tip video we use it as a pull up resistor to make a very simple amplifier for the tach signal. Also, the resistors are not polarized like a diode. the direction of flow doesn't matter.

    Hi what kind of resistor you use?

    Hey can you use a 0.5w resister?

    • @frotosgarage6715
      @frotosgarage6715 3 года назад

      0.5 watt resistor is to small to handle the potential load sent as a tach signal. The resistor will likely burn up if not immediately then soon after. I would recommend at least a 5 watt Resistor that has the correct resistance for your tach ( the tach functions in a way that Is smooth fluctuations coordinating with engine rpm.)
