Bondi from the South before Markam did some dodgy deal and sold off the public land donated to us for a rich mega development, allowed the developers to dump the demolition spoil straight onto the beach. I bet you can still find housebricks there. they closed and sold off halfway houses and ensured the rich glitz, souless rubbish would take over.

it was a good neighbourhood, good days and good times, pile of garbage now, feels like a glitzy glass white shoe drugs and money brothel. Was a very human place with everyone from the bottom to the top and from al oler, locals, tourists whoever.

Wonderful pics - I don't remember the old sandstone church across from where the Apple store now sits in Bondi Junction - was that just demolished or moved somewhere else ?

Awesome video. Used to fish the spots from Bronte Cemetery to the Murk and all then all the spots in between: Green Island, the Rings, the Altars...Also fished Rosa Gully and the Block. We used to camp overnight at the Mattens and would sometimes see the odd seal and penguin there. Crazy to think me and bro's mates would effortlessly scale those cliffs. Ahhh, the invincibility of youth! One kid we knew fell from the second set of ropes at the Mattens...rescued and survived but his back was fucked.

Amazing Bondi History - the rules were very harsh then. Good old Aub carrying out to the letter the Council'[s ordinances. Hate the discrimination of the Surf Clubs naming some boys as undesirable. Didn't realise it may have been the making of them.

My first memory of Bee (and I believe she preferred that spelling of her name) was while waiting for a tram with my family on the corner of King and George Streets in Sydney, probbaly in 1948. All was just noisy traffic and bell-clanging trams until everything suddenly stopped. I saw a lady running on the road, jumping on to tram running boards and off again and generally making merry. i could see traxi drivers and tram drivers and the policeman on traffic duty with big smiles on their faces. It lasted two or three miniutes and then all was back to normal. I saw Bee quite a few times over the next 20 years after that in the city, including an occasion in a coffee shop where she borrowed a pen from my father to do a crossword (which she did at lightning speed). Overall she was an eccentric and loved "character" who gave Sydney CBD a special boost in those days. At least by the late 1940s the city was used to her.

Great find BBB. It sounds like Rockhoppers before us took even more risks. Looking back I certainly think I'm fortunate to have survived climbing up old rusty spikes south of Diamond Bay in the 60s.

Not a beach I go to these days. Has become too touristy, pretentious and if you go for a swim you are likely to get your stuff pinched. Also no one cares about celebrities or body beautiful. People want good ordinary accessible beaches where no one bothers you and are family friendly.

To get a permit to park your car on Queen Elizabeth Drive now costs $183 a year and I was told next year it will be over $200 and there has been little to no maintenance done on the car park or promenade in years plus Waverley Council every year get the ice skating rink and that Ferris Wheel and charge people, nothing they do is done for locals (not that is many true locals left)

Council charge enough in parking fees which is owner by the rate payers, Went for a visit on a more southern beach only to see a beach front unit block that should be condemned

I remember the "bogey hole" from the early 1960s, it has not changed much, does it not qualify of heritage and not be changed? Bondi has been going downhill from that time, yet real-estate prices have increased.

Pity old Bondi gone now, was a place for pretty well everyone bar the arrogant and parasitic rich and famous.

those baths can really produce fish if you know what you are doing... Love Bondi. Saw a whole kingfish in one of those pools after a storm and a few sea lions basking over the years.
