Schmidt's Bootmaker
Добавлен 6 июн 2021
My name is Sam Schmidt, and I create custom leather boots. I am the owner of Schmidt’s Bootmaker; a traditional boot making shop offering made-to-measure footwear, and one-on-one boot making classes where you get to create your own boots from beginning to end.
Boot Resole | Hondo Cowboy Boot Restoration
These worn out Hondo cowboy boots get a new life with a new leather sole and heels. I like being able to save people money on a resole instead of them having to buy a new pair of boots. No sweat in throwing out your footwear if the uppers are still in good condition. This is why choosing a pair of shoes or boots that can be repairable is so important. And if you really want your footwear to last, look for a leather insole (hand welted & not goodyear welted), leather welt and a high quality leather upper.

How to Measure YOUR OWN FEET for Custom Boots
Imagine with some beautiful shell cordavan!?!! Would love a pair
0:23 gracias por compartir, buen técnica para extraer las piezas del Corte, continúo mirando.
Yeah, but he's not talking about leather.
Wow!!! Gr8 video. You are the man!!! It takes a lotta guts to go against the popular top reviewers!! You are now #1 . I've had my Vanguard boots color #8 for about 2 years, mine still look and feel pristine and are still getting better. Do you review/ work on other fine dress shoes? Like TLB Mallorca, Carmina, John Lobb? Thank u in advance. Congrats! I now denounce all other fine footwear cobblers.
Actually a very good video, not sure why some of them are bashing you. Can you recommend a boot which passes your benchmarks for 250$ or less? Thanks a lot.
The hands are manually working the machine, so its hand made
I like all the comments about the sounds and the music when there's literally zero audio in the video
This guy is a crook. Two years ago he took my money for 2 pair of boots. Nothing but lies and empty promises about boots and refunds. Stau away from this crook.
🎉🎉🎉
I got a pair of Captains, my first true, properly made boots in 39 years. My back pain is gone! Imagine that...
I am not impressed by the materials or the construction. A lot of people think that $200 is the cheapest Goodyear welted boot that you can buy. Not true. There are other boots which are Goodyear welted, and costs less. But a Goodyear welt is not the be all, end all, sign of quality. It's just a welt. Overall, the shoe as a whole, begins to fail and is not worth resoling. So you're actually paying too much for a disposable boot.
Where's the audio?
I know I wish we could have kept the audio on. we had to turn it off due to music rights that we believed before uploading were in the public domain.
OK. I must not be in on the joke, because I do not hear anything. I guess that's why everybody is complimenting the music?
haha no, unfortunately we had to take the sound off due to music rights which we were certain, and had previously checked were in the public domain. So sorry you get the video with no shop sounds or music.
They lose me at the cardboard insole
Nice looking boots bud!!
Excellent
Making boots is so cool
@@BigTree412 come make a pair with us!
@@schmidts.bootmaker in the process of saving up for a pair do you have any access to non-slip kitchen soles bc I work in a kitchen and it's really slippery for most boot's
Looks awesome man 😎
What leather are you using?

Very nice. I have resolved 2 pairs of my boots so far. It just doesn't seem to stick properly for me around the toe area. Very nice work sir.
Apply glue to the sole and the boot, then let it semi-dry, then heat it with a heat gun for approximately 50 seconds or 1 minute, then after you applied the sole try to apply a lot of pressure everywhere. Hammer it very very hard. Also what type of glue are you using?
@mazda-sAuce barges all purpose contact cement. I'll try this. Leather resolving is fine. But my vibration and crepe soles started talking at the toe pretty quickly. I made a wooden jig and clamped it. Could be operator error. Thanks for the response.
@@TheIllcaster good luck, hope it works🤞
Fine lookin boots gentlmen. Much respect.
Thank you! We had a good time building them as well.
Awesome. Thats a serious boot.
Thanks for watching! It's a tedious job with a lot of steps but love doing it!
Boots making.this is where my head and heart belongs
agreed. It's a great trade to be in. very rewarding
Useless discussions. Everyone pays for results, not for the process.
Workshop looks cluttered And disorganized
Beautiful job! It’s wonderful to see that this level of craftsmanship still exists.
I’m ready to try
Thanks for making these videos I really appreciate them
I wish I had seen this sooner! I bought a pair of these in all black rough out and have walked about 90 miles in them over the last 3 weeks. I don’t think the break in will ever happen with a cardboard insole… so they just hurt!
The pancakes you made today aren’t home made because you didn’t grow the wheat and mill the flour. The butter totally came from the store. Oh, and that gas you use in your stove? Totally store bought. I mean, nothing wrong with store bought, but just please be more honest about what you’re advertising. 🙁 I will never claim to have done anything myself ever again. 💔
👍
Well done job and video! Happy to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice job on the boots, they look great!
Hey thanks Andrew!
The last step is satisfying to me
Yes, and the most rewarding. Seeing it all finally come together is relieving
Idk what to say but I like watching your videos when I come past them while scrolling
Thanks for watching!
It having been Mother’s Day yesterday, my wife got a break from getting her nails painted by our 2 yr old. On the other hand (no pun intended) my nails have a little more color today. Good thing I have acetone by the gallons.
Is 265 dollar boot ….
ASMR leather on this old landis splitter. Shop sounds 🔊 I’m splitting this leather to create midsoles on a boot repair.
Wow thats amazing! How do you know the right place to stitch the welt?? That is so hard!!! LOL Best reagrds from Portugal
that's very good
Thanks
Could use as a leather lining for kydex holsters or some thicker tool leather maybe?
What no smoked Olmo?! lol
Oh wow thr color is nice too!
Started cutting into it today. Before the end of this week I’ll be stretching and nailing it to the last. Aka, lasting.
@@schmidts.bootmaker waiting for the vid 👍
Thanks so much for making and sharing this, Sam. As far as I've seen, this might be the only step-by-step video of glass slippers making and fitting on RUclips!
of course! Not a lot of people make boots anymore, and even then, don't film their processes. I teach in-person and online classes too if you want to learn even more! www.schmidtsbootmaker.com under 'classes'.
No my shoes do not
Let's get you started on some! promise, it'll be the best decision you make for your feet. Short term and long term
Any knowledge of Rancourt and Co?
Hi, I'm not familiar of them
Stop it...Absoulutly nothing wrong with Thursday for the $$$.
Sure, for the material and how it’s made that’s the price they are worth. But for them to say high quality and handmade that’s incorrect and I’ll stand by that.
These boots must last forever!! Damn!!
😮
😮😮
WOW
...what? Brass Vs Iron no explanation or VS to speak of? Why is shoemaking content so bad? Are we just all introverts and afraid to speak into a mic? 🎤
Here is the explanation for Brass vs. Iron nails for ya. Started writing more info in the comments because youtube only lets you use so many letters in the title, looks like I forgot this one. You can look at all my other videos and find audio. It’s essential to use brass nails and not iron nails because iron will rust and rot out the leather. Using brass nails for your boots will take longer to oxidize, and to rot the leather.
