Loved every second of this video. I was back in my grandfather's workshop. He was a shoemaker. I could almost smell the leathers, the glue again. I am almost 64 years old, but this video took me back to my childhood. I recognized most of the machines, most of the sounds , it was a trip back into my past for me. Thank you so much.
Such craftsmanship should stay with us forever. Incredible workmanship! Add hobnails and heel irons and they'll go 300 miles without a sole replacement. They really don't make'em like they used to, except at Schmidt's.
That was great! I enjoy watching boot and shoe making videos. Yours was the best I’ve watched in a while, the music with the shop sounds was cool. Thanks
I've watched a lot of bootmaking videos but just found your channel today. This video was the most engaging/artistic video I've seen. Love the fact that you even cut the leather by hand instead of using a clicker press. Glad I found your channel!
Def do a video with Weston not sure how I never heard of your boot company. But really loving this. And one day would love to get some orthotic boots from you for my spine...
Beautiful, looks like a spin on a Viberg boot, but I like yours better! Interesting the way you lasted the upper, tacking the back low, setting the toe up and then stretching it home into final shape. That was cool and you are the only person I’ve seen use that technique. Like the channel !
Loved everything about this video, you are a true craftsman's and that boot is built like a tank. Hoping to some day get a pair for myself. Keep up the great work!!
Just beautiful. It's odd, but I found myself smiling like a child throughout the whole video. Thank you for sharing. Also, how does one get into something like this? Thanks again.
Sad but true. I grew up a cobbler and it was dying back then even with all the cheap disposable shoes. Funny how RUclips has brought new light to these old trades. My dad and I would have been famous for sure! It was such fun work and I miss the smell of leather and glue and polish. The sounds of a 5 n 1 cutting, the naumkeag, awl stitching with waxed thread. Memories
Health to your hands, as we say in my country Hellas. Though there was no sound, or maybe cause of that, it made watching more focused and it is obvious you love your craft. I positively envy that. All the best brother! PS Where are you located?
Nice boots, I wonder how long takes such a training until you can make such shoes? I think the leather cutting is still the easiest but then the sewing and the sole work seems to me to be harder. Keep it up had fun watching the video Many greetings Peter
The music is different. But great video overall. I've always bought expensive boots and shoes because I have issues with my feet. Infantry osut training was hard because we could only use the issued boots. But after that I could get better off the shelf boots. Ive always wanted to try custom handmade boots. But I'm afraid to spend the money and they not be right.
cool, jump on our website and order a pair of dress boots. In the special instructions say that it's an oxford with leather filler. Im out till about June.
@@schmidts.bootmaker I was thinking more like the Hunting boot, with a leather sole, cut like a shoe (below the ankle), and a smooth black leather. I love the construction, especially not using gimming/Goodyear welt.
I enjoyed watching your video with the mute button on, the old time music was good at first but there was way too much of it for me. Keep up the good work though, looks like you make a good pair of boots
Hey thanks so much. Ya this was our first long video showing the work I do. We have a plan to have a video for each boot that I do. The next one is a 2 piece hiking boot.
yeah unfortunately when switching this video to be monetized, one of the songs (which we checked to make sure was in the public domain) and RUclips deemed was not, we lost all the sound on the video. We are thinking of uploading again but with no music and just shop sounds.
haha no, unfortunately we had to take the sound off due to music rights which we were certain, and had previously checked were in the public domain. So sorry you get the video with no shop sounds or music.
I love videos like this, but the music really ruined it for me. It was very distracting and grating. You can save yourself some effort and improve video quality by just leaving it out. Without the music, I could watch this all day, but I couldn't even get through the whole video with it.
Thanks for the feedback! We are looking to get a microphone so that it won't pick up my heavy breathing haha. The music was the only way to cover it up. Really just wanting to get the shop sounds in the future.
Nothing will ever bit hand made, just amazed me your skills
Thanks for watching! We really want to get another Bootmaking video up!

Watching from Scotland lovely work from a true craftsman.
Awesome I use to live in Stirling just down the street from a cobbler. That's what started this career for me.
I stay in Perth about 30mins from Stirling, some of my wife's family stay in Stirling. Small world.
I love the music and the noise in the background while working with leather. Nice.
Did the video get muted? I hear nothing at all.
Love the music!!!!
Love everything about the video, the mix of classic songs with shop sounds is amazing to hear and relaxing at the same time. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Will do!
I like the music choice!!! Bravo
Thank you!
America the beautiful!
Enjoyed every second of this video. The music is grand!
Impeccable work. The music is perfect.
I wish that my leather work showed this level of craft mastery. This was lovely to watch. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! More videos to come
Masterpiece. This is what I call a real old school high quality boots
Thank you. Working hard trying to keep this craft alive.
Those are some damn well done shoes. Congratulations.
Amazing and beautiful hand make by you
Great product
Thanks for watching!
Awesome. Thats a serious boot.
Thanks for watching! It's a tedious job with a lot of steps but love doing it!
Absolutely awesone!
These boots must last forever!! Damn!!

I ABSOLUTELY love the boots!!!!❤❤❤❤
Loved this video and the music made it even better!
Love the music but love more the craftmanship and the final product waooo beautiful boots I want a pair

agreed. It's a great trade to be in. very rewarding
Amazing craftsmanship! Great camerawork as well.
Not my type of music but props on the boots they are simply beautiful.
Dude, your skills are amazing! Great video!.
Thank you! Appreciate it!
Great video, excellent content, and I admire the craftsmanship!
Thank you for watching! I hope to keep it alive and teach others this trade!
That was awesome. I love watching true craftsmen do things like this.
It has that vintage mountain hiking boots ,look to it . Beautiful. Well done
Great video, loved the music!
Outstanding craftsmanship!!! I know it's not an easy task but you make it look as if anyone can do it. Thank you for sharing.

Excellent.
Awesome watch!
Thank you Brian!
Glad you're in UT!!
And now we just moved to Wyoming haha
Brilliant.
Happy to see I'm not the only one who uses legal file folders for pattern making!!
People just don't know how much more convenient it is!
@@schmidts.bootmaker I'm relatively new to the skill. I figured file folders would hold up longer than just paper!
Very fantastic work,so nice.Greetings from Jinjer‘s friend in Germany
Yes sir that is a nice pair of boots.

Wonderful art. I really enjoyed seeing your work in progress,
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I love making boots and enjoy every step it takes to finish a pair.
So much handwork
I have started making boots too ❤. These videos made me get into it. Just gonna say it’s insanely hard to make the traditional good year welted boots
nah you will get the hang of it I have some tricks to make it easier if you want to know

Hey, thanks so much. This pair took a lot of work
Definitely need more videos like this in my life! Also how would these boots run?
Such a great video dude and the music is great too💚 learning a lot watching you work. Would love to see in person 💚 All the best

Pretty cool. I would love to have a set of Jedi boots if I can find someone to make them for me.

I want to learn how to do this so so much!
You are in luck, I teach one-on-one boot making classes! You can read more about it in the link here > schmidtsbootmaker.com/pages/boot-making-classes
Awesome video. Very entertaining. What’s your favorite part to do in the whole process?
Thanks Mckaila! My favorite part is the lasting. It's where I finally see the boot coming together. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Health to your hands, as we say in my country Hellas. Though there was no sound, or maybe cause of that, it made watching more focused and it is obvious you love your craft. I positively envy that. All the best brother! PS Where are you located?
Cool video, wish there was sound!
Sam, you should put a lofi soundtrack.
Interesting process and a very cool finished product ... although once through Sammy Davis' "The Southland Gave Birth to the Blues" was quite enough.
Nice boots, I wonder how long takes such a training until you can make such shoes? I think the leather cutting is still the easiest but then the sewing and the sole work seems to me to be harder. Keep it up had fun watching the video
Many greetings
Peter
There is no sound on this video for me.. Strange. Every other video has sound.
Awesome vid. Would it be a problem to do same video with out music at all?
ya the next video we wanted to have all the shop sounds I just have to have the heaters off so you don't hear the fans.
Servo motors are the best.
o I feel like Im cheating with that thing it's so awesome.

Honestly, if they are custom fit, there shouldn't be any issues. If you can, find a bespoke cobbler that will take molds of you feet to make the last.
@@mikeford963 that's what I figured. I think my next boots will be custom.
Thanks for replying
Ever made a one piece leather backpacking or mountaineering/alpine boot?
I can never get the curve I want in the heel with a one-piece so I split it into 3 parts to do my hiking boot.
@@schmidts.bootmaker I've been looking around to replace my Scarpa BXD from 2004. They are awesome for backpacking in the Rockies.

What differentiates the dress boot from the $600 boots?
@@TEDodd oxfords are harder to do they require a different stitch pattern also the hide is more expensive.

What did you use for inseaming?
346 thread and hand wax normally but for these boots it was 346 and beeswax

Sub'd. 👍🏻
Whats the black stuff on your cutting table??
rubber gym mat

What? The music was awesome. I really enjoyed this video and the boot as well. No heavy metal or machine made music. Class act.
Easy answer to unliked sounds….mute…turn off volume.
I liked the jazz classics. I could listen to that all day.
Just turn off volume ;))
Automation is killing the culture... handmade shoes, handmade suits, mechanical watches, fountain pen we are losing these art forms.
Workshop looks cluttered And disorganized
i was going to watch it untill he started whistling wont even watch it on mute i dislike whistlers with a pasdion
I know what I'm adding to every video now.
Turn the sound off if it bugs you! This is not rocket science!
