Moseri has it wrong: he talks about shares, as if it's the most important thing, while in reality, shares became big ONLY because people could not see the accounts they follow anymore. So users got forced to share. He presents it as "that's what we see the platform doing", while in reality, that's a reaction to what they did to the platform in the last 5-6 years. We could share 10 years ago too, but we didn't do it as much because there was no need. We knew that if you got followed, your post would be seen. Hashtags were also fantastic to follow specific things in terms of what's recent (e.g. I'm a watercolor and gouache artist, so I would check the recent tag posts to see ALL new posts and discover that way). 2011-2016 was the best time at IG to build an online presence as a creator. In fact, that's when I built my art career as a collage artist. I had 165k followers and lots of sales, all through IG. All that started dying out in 2017 when they removed the chronological order of posts. Then, in 2020 I decided to do illustration and started a new account. Crickets!! I only managed to get 3.5k followers (and most of them just followed me from my collage account, they certainly didn't "discover" me), and I now get only 40 likes with 200 ppl reach. IG is a joke now, it just doesn't work for most users anymore. Works only for the top 0.1% that the algorithm decided that their posts are noteworthy. The rest is treated as trash.
The Instagram algorithm is bs right now ,I've been posting reels and not been able to hit even 1k views ,it's horrible ,they're people in my niche who post the same kind of stuff and they get crazy views,it's tiring,its crazy because i used to crush it on my theme page before.
I do hope they don’t ban TikTok , imagine being stuck with instagram

Why every time I want to shoot a STORY it’s defaulting to REEL!!! This is sooooo annoying! Another Instagram hate I have as of late is these messages constantly popping up telling me to turn on Notifications. I have them turned off for a reason. I don’t need to be notified every time someone likes my post or sends me a message. 🤦🏾♂️😡

As a consumer it’s crazy how the platform has changed a lot to just sharing funny videos with friends. But as a creator it sucks lol if TikTok doesn’t make it in the end. Will be very interesting how the market will deal with it.

The shares thing is BS because my content consistently gets more shares than likes but my reach is still kind of stagnant in contrast to some of best performing posts. The truth is, like all platforms, they're drug dealers. They give you a boosted post every once in a while to dangle the carrot, doesn't matter if you post consistently phenomenal content because you deeply understand your audience. People would post far less otherwise because they wouldn't need to test the algorithm.
I hear nothing about businesses and reach which is very difficult and different. A creator , entrepreneur- business account are two different worlds it seems. Brands are typically more content censored as well.

Shares = content that is (mostly) educational or brain rot. This whole concept of pushing shared content drives me crazy

It would be facebook if a high quality post was determined by something other than shares? Absolutely not. The problem is there are creators out there who just want to show off something cool. Photos, music, props, etc. and while those posts do have their fair share of people sharing them. I would have to say that the style of content that gets the most shares is educational or humor based content. What does that leave us with? Feeds full of skits and mindless consumerism, or content that is made up of nothing but "hacks" "tips" and "things you must learn" It's tiring as a business owner or brand to have to keep up with it.

I have 9000+ followers (organic) and barely 200 see my posts before IG dumps it into the "not interesting" pile and I get an avg of 25% engagement vs reach which is high, yet not even my followers get to see my stuff

Why reach is 13 million and at least five of my videos are over a million views and thousands of likes. It has been hard work to get to my first 1000 then after that I slowly got better reach going quickly to 9000 followers and 28 almost 29K now.

In some countries, Meta itself provides the option for people to object to having their data used for AI training. Meta named this “the right to object.” This happens because in European countries and Brazil there are laws regarding people's privacy on the internet and give people the right to object to having their data used to train Meta's AI (or for anything else). I'm from Brazil and I sent a request citing the "General Personal Data Protection Law" that is in force in Brazil and I promptly received a response saying that my request was accepted. If your country has a law that protects the personal data of citizens on the internet, you can cite the law in the request.
