Welcome to the Museum

Добавлен 28 авг 2016
Hi, my name is Julia and I love art, books and museums. Here I share the books I read and art I admire. Join me! 🌊
Welcome to the Museum has began as a channel dedicated to rediscovering of the museums. It is now more than that. Because art can be found everywhere: on the streets, on a screen, on pages of a book, or in your imagination.

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov: A Deep Dive into its History, Themes, and Critical Interpretations [CC]
Просмотров 5264 месяца назад
I first read Lolita when I was around 16, but I didn’t understand it back then. I think I didn’t really grasp modern literature in general during my adolescence. Now, in my 30s, I see how Lolita uses the same devices as my favorite contemporary artworks: it’s interactive, it makes you part of the story, and it makes you feel things (sometimes very unpleasant things) because of it. My rediscover...

Packing my library. Part 1

Hi! I know I haven't posted recently. Partially because it took me some time to edit this video, along with unpacking the last boxes (notoriously the most difficult ones), discussing every single interior decision with my partner, building new furniture, and trying to stay in contact with our friends. But the time has come! Here is a one-hour video of me talking through almost all of my books. ...

The White Guard is also worth reading a brilliant novel.😊
Hopefully someone else will host non-fiction November next year!
These all sound brilliant.
Hello! Do you have a goodreads account?
Hi! No, I prefer using StoryGraph 🤗
I've never heard of some of those books. They all sound good. Good luck in your new job!
Best of luck with the reading this month! This may be a little off-topic but how did you learn to read Russian? I'm trying to learn the Cyrillic alphabet currently so that I can read Dostoevsky in Russian but I feel like it might just take me forever 😅.
Thank you very much! Russian is my mother tongue 😬 I can’t imagine how difficult it is to learn it as a second language. But I know some success story so just keep going, take it slow and just enjoy the process of learning 🤗
'You can lose your sense of time' at San Fransisco books , how true! I was there for the first last weekend and I just loved it.
Cobalt Red is one of my top reads this year. I am looking at all my electronics differently afterwards. It could definitely fit the path prompt as the journalist travels through different regions in DRC for the investigation.
мне показалась эта книга сатирической беспорядочной смешной, такая манера сумбурная.. ну и мысли вполне нормальные ..
great video! i read lolita when i was 14 and i too didn't understand it back then. this video makes me want to reread lolita. thank you <3
Thank you for this very interesting video. You make me want to re-read it so I can notice some of the details you mentioned that I haven't considered before!
Interesting analysis. Thank you for your hard work, it certainly shows.
This was so much better than I hoped😁. Thank you also for reminding me that I still have a couple unread books by Nabokov.

Amazing, truly
Parallels between Woland Stalin in M&M are completely unjustified. Nothing of what W does suggests that. He challenges spiritless Soviet Union and is paradoxically presented as the force of good.
reading m & m at 40 is horse dung. u think u clever?,i read it 5 times, and im stoopid. horse dung woman.
I loved them all!!!

What about museums of engineering and technology?🤔🤔🤔🤔
I guess I should do part 2 with all the museums I missed 😄
Anyways?
Such a crazy beautiful book. Thanks for your review :)
Been my favorite for years. There is magic in those pages.
I think this is the faster I've subscribed to someone! 19 seconds in and the sound of your voice is so soothing that I hit that button.
Oh my goodness its me!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 And it was my birthday this week. I will send you an email
Congratulations! 🤗 great timing 😁
Ah I didn't comment because already have too many books. Just a note to let you know I really enjoy your videos and reviews! Thanks for hosting a giveaway
Sure, no problem! It is very thoughtful of you 🫶 thank you for being here
Religious apologia. Nothing more, nothing less. Just like Solzhenitsyn... propaganda to keep either their Orthodox church, or the West's Capitalist dystopia trundling along. Never believe in the myth makers - if you do, you will forever be their child.
Hey, come to Kolkata, we've Asia's greatest book stores in one street. This would be my gift to you...From Bengali to Hindi To Sanskrit to English...you name it
I would love to! A good friend of mine comes from Kolkata, I wish I can visit his hometown one day 🤗 Do you have specific places in mind?
@@WelcometotheMuseum yes of course...college street is the place I'm talking about... but if you're coming in winter do try to visit Kolkata international book fair... and can tell me... I'll be with you guys ❤️
Been watching you channel for a while now and I absolutely love the combination of your calming presence and smart insights. I'm reading Vladimir by Julia May Jonas right now. It's supposed to be a commentary on me too since it is written from the perspective of the wife of professor who is accused of abusing his powers with his female students. Just 10 pages in so can't really form an opinion yet. Would love to join the giveaway. Btw: these long videos are the best!
Congratulations! You are the winner of this giveaway! Please contact me per email. It's in the description of this video :) P.S. I have had this book in my wish list for some time already! It sounds intriguing. If you finished Vladimir already, I would love to learn what you think of it
i randomly came across your video and idk if you've done this before, but i need to get a bookshelf tour cause something about your book arrangements makes me feel so satisfied and happy ! just started reading again since semester break started and im currently reading the tattooist of auschwitz T.T thanks for the giveaway and goodluck to everyone joining !!
Hi Julia! I hope you're having a nice day. I happened to just come across your RUclips channel and I must say that your content is extremely pleasant and enjoyable to watch! :). The book that I am currently reading is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I haven't made that much progress on it as it is hard to really get into it I would say with how dense the text is as well as the fact that it is a classic. I will continue to read and I hope I will find more joy in reading it soon! Wishing everyone who enters the giveaway all the best of luck <3
Can I just ask - what edition were you reading?
I was reading Russian edition (publishing house Эксмо) :) And I quoted English translation by Diana Burgin and Katherine O’Connor
Omg Julia an hour long video!!!!!! 😍😍 You spoil us. I also love the fact that this feels like a real deep dive into your taste. Your channel is amazing, I always love the insights you have on books and art plus you have the most relaxing presence. Good luck with the move!
Thank you very much 🤗
thanks!, im going to Paris in a few weeks and this video helps me a lot
I just discovered your channel :) I wanted to thank you for the video, I'm enjoying it a lot! Also, as a small booktuber, I know some videos don't perform as others, but this will help & inspire someone I'm sure! I hope to see your new library in your new home :) I'll move in upcoming months too, I know how frustrating things can be, so I hope you'll enjoy the process and be happy in your new place :)
Thank you so much for your kind words! Well, my books certainly feel better at a new place with more space to lie around :) Good luck with moving homes! 💜
Thank you, Julia. This essay of yours was really refreshing, and yet full of valuable insight.
Thanks a lot for your review! I really love this book. I read it many times and saw something new every time. And I really, really like the character Koroviev! This is wonderful.
This is very interesting. Especially the detail about the possible origin of the use of the word „Master“ for the title character. The Master and Margarita has been one of my favourite novels since I first read it when it came out in an Icelandic translation when I was a teenager. I have reread it several times, in Icelandic and English (not in Russian, sadly). I also love, and reread regularly Black Snow, Bulgakov's roman à clef about his relationship with the Moscow Art Theatre and Stanislavsky. Thank you very much for this video!
Great analysis of one of my favourite books, thank you. ❤ I've read a couple of different translations into English and a little bit of it in Russian - I always recommend the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation.
Nice review. The context in which the novel was written explained what was not clear on reading it in English. Thanks a lot.
Peak of magic realism. But I still like A Dog's Heart more. The only thing I dont like about Bulgakov's writing is the chaos of the names. He can use one of 2 or 3 combinations of a name for the same character. And plus 1 a nickname.
@abookolive brought me here. Happy Reading! 😎📚👍
I would love to learn Russian just so that I could read these classics in their original language because I’m sure just like when I read G. Garcia Marquez, 100 years of solitude in native Spanish. It has so much more color.
White washed Asian chick
I currently live in Berlin and I am looking for some bookstores to visit, so this was great! 😊
great video! 👍I came here as a dog loving owner ❤ also curious why old paintings of dogs had human or wierd faces...
