ADHD Diagnosis In Adulthood Explained Everything For Adam Reed
OMG!!! Laughing so hard I am crying about the clothes. And neurotypical aspirations that remain in the closet. I love learning that my "thing" is a shared thing! Newly diagnosed at 54.
I love how he says it. Thanks man. <3
❤
I am 60, and just now, with all the information coming out, I realise I have some relationship with ADHD. Waiting for a diagnosis. It would explain so much about my life. ❤
Love this story ❤
Hi there. Would it be possible to do an episonde on HSPs (highly sensitive people) who are not autistic. HSP seams to be similar to sensory processing disorder. It generally overlaps with autism, but not always. There is a subgroup of autistic people who actually don't have sensory processing disorder and HSPs who are not autistic. I believe that some people who are suffering in the world due to sensory issues, but are not autistic run into trouble because they don't get an autism diagnosis, yet have a large chunk of the symptoms.
Can someone adopt me into this kind of family LOL
I think more "level 1" autistic people should help those with level 2 and 3 have platforms. You are right that there are many others who need a voice.
I thought that was just the normal thing to do.
Gifts for the neurospicy ones who like to learn and know about random geography stuff… Atlas Obscura! It’s so good!
RIGHT??? I don't have $4,000 spare change for a diagnosis so that ppl will actually believe me
This is so true! I am probably ADHD, my son and a nephew were diagnosed as such, and others in my family have typical characteristics. We can concentrate, even obsessively on something that interests us but tend to jump from.one thought or activity to another. Do 2 things as once and find it hard to relax or concentrate due to being unable to stop thinking about a variety of subjects.
This podcast with Carrie and David was so healing. They offered a huge amount of parental love that felt safe to someone who’s never known that. Thank you for sharing
no
I work with prek and one of our nonverbal kiddos does that with Everything (including when he puts on hand sanitizer, which always gets him to cough 😅)
It’s the “attention deficit” bit I don’t like. It doesn’t show the impact that living with adhd has on people, I think it makes it easy to dismiss adhd as nothing serious and just a bit annoying rather than a lifelong condition that can make life really difficult for a lot of people. I don’t mind the term “disorder” funnily enough. It can add a bit of heft if adhd is not being taken seriously. My adhd partner struggles in work sometimes with adhd related things, and he gets penalised for them with no sympathy or understanding that some things don’t come naturally to him, or that he’s trying his best but finding things difficult. Saying “look it’s a disorder, my brain is wired differently, it’s a freaking medical condition” at least gets somewhere in having them take it seriously. I’d love it to have a more flashy name. Get some Latin in there! Make it something mysterious!
Brilliant as always. Have a great Christmas all! So grateful for what you do.
This hits so hard 😢
I do that with my freshly washed and dried cotton shirts.
That was emotional to watch, and beautiful. Thank you.
We're touching clothes that look nice, cause we gotta confirm if it's sensory friendly. My mom often gets clothes that are passed down between co-workers, for me (aka other get stuff, too, for themselves or their kids). And she already knows when to tun stuff down cause she knows to check for the feel and vice versa 😂
We don’t do that, but this did remind me that my husband laughs as I fold laundry because I will occasionally and unconsciously put an item to my face to smell and feel it. 😂
I don’t consciously do that, but thinking about it now, I love good textures and smells and will hold it up to my mouth to get a sense of both. Clean new clothes almost always smell delicious, and the feel of new fabric on your lips is sensational, especially something like a cardigan with thick threads. Neurodivergency is a beautiful thing to be a part of, especially when people are able to communicate these seemingly very individualistic experiences that we all seem to share.
Can you see me? 😅
Whenever my mum and I get anything new we have to touch it and rub it on our face, if it doesn't pass the face test it's going back 😂😂😂 if the texture isn't right we're going to hate wearing it so it goes back!
Just fantastic content, I’ve been so intrigued to learn more about Tourette’s and this has provided me with an insight that ill take away into research. Fab!
What a great episode & so relatable! diane.freindlie 💞♾️💞
The letter is verry beautiful and made me very emotional.
I do like the formst and conyent of these interviews. I think the host does a great job of balancing the conversation, and allowing the guest to get their points across. I know I cannot be the only one hearing intermittent bovine vocalizations, tho when he says "mmmm".
Love these two, was lovely seeing them talk outside of shortform , I'll have to check oiut the book. also, just wanna say, your logo is really satisfying and clever with the green 20% of dots.
Worried about autims, don't vaccinate your child. Read some books on the subject why many people do not vaccinate their children. Those people who do vaccinate their child, may believe it caused no problem to their health, and I certainly hope so but fact is, those parents will neve know how their child's ability would have been if left unvaccinated. The other thing is, you can always get the child vaccinated, but once is't in his blood, you can never take those vaccines out again. Anxiety? Do a search for dr. Georgia Ede. just listen to what she has to say. She is amazing.
I love you guys and your short videos and your channel but screw the long interview videos those aren't for people with ADHD there for somebody I just don't know who not not people with ADHD ad for sure
This person is obviously sane and not addicted to Adderall
As Dr Russell Barkley said undiagnosed ADHD is a huge public health risk.
In most countries where prenatal tests for Down's syndrome are available, there are almost no babies born with it anymore. The same will happen the day an autism prentatal test will be available.
❤❤❤
I have Tourette's!
I'm Type 1 autistic. Sleep is fine for me but only if I got to bed after 1 am. I wake up naturally at 10 am, no alarm clock no matter how later I got bed. I can try to sleep long it's just hard. If I got bed early at 1 am then sleep for 20-30 minutes and wake for 30 minutes repeating till after 1 am. Sometime I can even get to sleep till it get close to 1 am.
I've had sleep issues my entire life. I don't feel tired until I'm exhausted. Sometimes I sleep for 3 hours and sometimes it's 15 hours.
What he describes sounds to me more like C-PTSD or BPD.
Read Chris Palmer’s book Brain Energy and learn about Georgia Ede - both doctors who recommend keto / carnivore for curing or dramatically improving mental illness and difficulties caused by neurodivergence.
Dr David Perlmutter discussed much of this in his 2015 book Brain Maker. It’s a great book and worth a read
Tourette’s meets echolalia that’s a hysterical disaster waiting to happen 😅
Wonderful interview and thank you to Josh for sharing his story 💚
Im in prolonged Autistic shutdown and I cannot function.
Time... "It's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... Stuff." (Quote from David Tennant as Dr Who, from the brilliant episode "Blink".)
Great show. But - please, please, please - stop beeping away words. That's childish.
Better to have a few beeps than to have RUclips remove this wonderful interview. This is an important conversation that needs to be shared.
@@gryphc3860 - That's what we Germans call anticipatory obedience. We are very good at it. And it never ends well.
Only 10 mins in, and I admire this man so much. Having to navigate all aspects of life with it must be difficult, but listening to him succeed, show courage and resilience shows what we can achieve. His testimony has helped me understand how to suppport my son emotionally ( Basic tics with ASD and ADHD) Lovely gentleman. I wish him the very best. May have to travel and book son in to get his hair done.
I’m really interested in this interview, I’m a late diagnosed ADHD 58 year old hairdresser and I’ve found it SO SO hard to just stop bloody moving and talking and butting in whilst at work so this must be absolutely excruciating for Josh at times ..
I'm the same age as josh and have been diagnosed with adhd and autism since I was very young and only in the last year, I get very twitchy and can't sit still and say random things and think I'm undiagnosed with tics but it's a nightmare waiting to get a diagnosis
