Thanks you my sisters
Never rebuilt one, why would you install the injector cups with a socket?
Question, what’s the name of the shaft you took off top of the head?
Cool video. I’m working on my 2002 international 4300 DT466 7.6L . Having the cylinder heads milled. Is it necessary to replace the camshaft assembly?
I don't think you should have to replace the camshaft as long at its not damaged.
Rocker arm assembly I had that mixed up with the camshaft
We just purchased a 1999 4700 with a DT466E engine and noticed today we have coolant leaking from the front o-ring where the cooler mounts to the water pump housing. Guessing that darn little o-ring on the end of the cooler is bad. After watching your video we have decided to go ahead and tackle the job ourselves. Making note that you felt the job could be done in about 8 hours or less, we've planned for several days since we like to take things nice and slow. We like taking lots of breaks and long lunches (since we own the business)!!!
I'm glad the video helped you! Its not to bad of a job, I'm not sure on the E series but the Pre E series uses the same oil cooler as the older ford 7.3l diesel. Give us an update on what you find if you can!
You didn't show adding new oil, just said to. How much do I add? Where do I add it?
My Model took 4.4 quarts but refer to your owners manual for your specific vehicle. You add the oil to the oil fill, will have a yellow cap, located on the drivers side of the engine.
What is the torque spec on the rod cap bearing
I used this as a guide for all my torque specs. dieselcranks.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IHDT466.pdf
Heidi I hope the RUclips algorithm comes around for you because you do have a solid channel here.
Thank You! And me too! Thanks so much for watching!
Cool video. Nice rig.
Thanks 👍
I would keep the hardware in a bag to put it with the items you're selling rather than mixing everything up in the cup
They are in labeled bags.
I'm just curious why would you rebuild the international
Was because it was losing power or smoking or just generally wouldn't run
I asked the question because my 444t could use a top end rebuild, but I don't think it's losing power at all other than maybe the oil pan, cooler and stuff needs to be cleaned and replaced. I just would like some input on it. Missy
I rebuilt this one because the liner Orings had failed and was mixing coolant and oil together. It also had a lot of blow by from the cracked pistons. It didn't seem down on power though, just lots of coolant in the oil.
Hi, good job! The paint you use it s a special one or any regular blue oil paint?
Its a special high heat engine enamel paint from POR. Works great and holds up to the heat of a diesel!
@@HeidisGarage thank you, I am planing to work soon in a DT466E head cylinder and wanted to do so with the color look very nice. Im in Haiti. I will see how shipping will work. Do you have a recommended web site to order it?
Where di you buy the kit
I got the kit from Heavy Duty Pros. Its a interstate Mcbee kit!
@@HeidisGarage Is this kit good and does it last a long time?
Thanks for this video, i have a dt466e my top hose to the coolant expansion tank is constantly flowing coolant to the tank at cold and hot . What do you think is the issue thanks in advance?
Sounds like a head gasket to me. Check to see if the coolant hoses are hard after sitting overnight.
@@HeidisGaragethanks, i will check it out!
Stator probably
It was a bad water temp sensor for the ECU. Watch the latest video on the sled!
Just did after I commented 😅
Thank you for taking the time to document your project! Ill be doing the very same soon. Very helpful and informative video series! One question, did you replace the main bearings too or just the rod bearings? I assume i should at least inspect the mains while inside. Im getting my kit from HDP also at your recommendation, thank you! Kevin
Thank you for watching! Glad you found it helpful! I did not change out my main bearing, I did inspect them and found that they were still in spec! I do recommend inspecting your mains for sure, they can be hit or miss on if they are good or not!
Would have been a much better video if you had broken it up into parts.. I just bought an 09 crossfire with an intermittent spark issue… I read that there’s a fuel adjuster on the throttle body where the bolt that holds it in place can come loose.. so I would have liked to have seen that… also would have liked a close up view of you hooking up the fuel injection lines and how you adjust the injection.. also how the hell you get that rubber boot or feels more like a hard plastic boot to move back out of the way to get the throttle body out and back in.. looks like you completely removed yours from the metal housing.. maybe make an access panel in the belly to access that temp sensor without pulling the motor… wish I could find a detailed disassembly and reassemble video on these sleds… never got to ride mine this winter due to no snow and can’t sell it for the same reason.. so figured I turn it into a learning experience this summer… if I can’t get it back together I’ll just part it out… glad your happy
I have never heard of that adjuster. The 09 is a different motor than what is in this sled so I'd assume it has different throttle body/injectors. My fuel injector lines are just zipped tied to the injectors, nothing more than sticking the line on the injector and throwing a zip tie around it. You can maybe adjust some of the injection with the throttle sensor but otherwise you have to get a boondocker box. The rubber boot on mine slips in and out fairly easily so not sure how yours is on the 09. I could make an access panel if I knew that was the issue on it before pulling the motor, but they are not hard to remove. Does yours throw any codes? I would check the taillight harness and the TSS if I were you. Is it intermittent when it gets hot?
I meant oil injection lines..
@@HeidisGarage I meant oil injection.. I only got to ride it once for two hours… there’s no snow so I can’t test ride it further.. I’ve since replaced a coil and taped up two bare spots on the wires feeding two of the coils… the previous owner replaced the stator, ECU & injectors then gave up.. I doubt it’s the throttle sensor as that would be to simple and is usually the first thing everyone checks
I disassembled an oil cooler on a Navistar 6.9 Once that was virtually identical to this one. It was so frozen together that I had to fabricate a pulling press from thick steel and 3/4” threaded rod. Then I pushed it back together with a hydraulic log splitter. Good times.
The log splitter is a great idea for pressing it back together!
hello what is the number piston of your motor¿ i have a piston 1810527C2 466-t4 and i cant find in mexico you help me please
This is the kit I used, I will try to find the piston #. www.heavydutypros.com/international-navistar-dt466p-inframe-overhaul-rebuild-kit-7083124c91.aspx
Would this possibly be why my 2015 never turns on the temperature light ever??
It might possibly be, you can test it by ohming it out. I'm not sure if that year has one or two sensors for the temp. You can get the wire schematics off of Country Cat.
@@HeidisGarage I believe there is 4 sensors that control temp it’s very confusing
Yeah they like to over complicate them! You could test it by unplugging them one by one and seeing if it throws a code or turns the temp light on!
Hello there Heidi. I'm very glad that I found your channel. I just became the owner of a 1994 International 4900 with the exact motor your dump has. I'm watching all of your vids on the DT466 rebuild so that I know what I need to look out for if I start having issues with mine. It's amazing how much room there is to work on the motor once you get the accessories out of the way. Thanks again for putting all of this up. 👍
Glad you found my channel as well! Hope you don’t have to dig into yours, but they are very easy to work on and do indeed have a lot of room when accessories are removed! Thanks for watching!
Woo!
Nice Video! Just picked up a 03 f7 so this video will help me out a lot. Thanks
Glad to hear it!
you have a short somewhere, shuts off spark, wire rub possibly
Was a faulty temp sensor for the ecu mounted on the bottom of then engine! Watch the next video!
flywheel timing sensor?
Was a faulty temp sensor for the ecu mounted on the bottom of then engine! Watch the next video!
I watched ur video on the cleaning and installation of new cables, did you buy the spi ones off ebay, if so did they come as a package of two or did u have to buy 2
I had to buy 2, I got SPI ones from amazon. I'm not sure how the OEM ones are sold. The part number for the ones I bought is SPI 12-59900
@@HeidisGarage ok thank you. I've got a crossfire 700 I'm assuming they r same ones as ur m7
Yeah they are basically the same. Only difference is track length and gearing!
So what was wrong with it?
Check out the last video on the channel! The temp sensor that tells the ecu the engine temp was bad!
Check wiring continety and for a ground short to frame
The fix was a bad temp sensor on the bottom of the engine, check out the latest video for it starting!
Sweet, just in time for the snow. How much did you get up there? Hurry up and get a ride video on it.
We hardly got 2.5-3" of snow unfortunately! hopefully after the weekend there will be enough to ride!
@@HeidisGarage They are calling for a storm Friday.
Hopefully we get something more out of that storm!
Wouldn’t it throw a code if out of spec?
wouldn't run long enough to even flash the dash to show the codes. I'm not sure if this one will even throw a code for this sensor either and not just the water temp sensor for the dash.
so happy for you!! well done!
Thank you!!
Pry bar doing pry bar things lol
Oh yeah! Didn't have a puller so that was the next best thing!
Lol definitely improvised! Glad you got it going though
Happy you got it, you deserve it after all that! Hopefully you get it out on the snow soon! Appreciate the update
I hope so to! Thank you!
Good Job!! Way to figure it out!
WOO!
Electrical can sure be a pest. The dealer has a scan tool they will plug in that will look at all the systems and tell you exactly where you have an issue. Unfortunately I'm cheap and the dealer is 200 miles away, so I have to look up resistance on every system and check them individually. Glad you found the bug!
Yeah it sure can be a pest! Thank you for watching!
Ohhh I’ve been waiting for this!!!!
Never thought it was the temp senor but I guess I was wrong about grounds
Yeah it was the only component that I could find that was out of spec!
Glad you found the problem.
Yeah me too! All the trouble for a little sensor!
👍 'Promosm'
I see alot of poor maintenance and over heating issues, check everything on that block? make sure there is nothing clogged up. Also make measurements too. cbeck for heat warping areas. good luck
It was gone through thoroughly and has been running strong for about a year so far!
Exactly!!👍 Very poor maintenence on this engine.
Another thing about the ECU, they have a symbol on it that is suppose to match with the injectors. If you are not getting spark then the pick up coil needs to be checked and the gap between it and the flywheel.
Try disconnecting the TSS(Throttle Safty Switch).
Its not the TSS, that was disconnected in this video. I have a video coming out soon that will show what the problem was.
Im interested in the outcome, and think you're doing awesome. You have to be close. I have an 08 Crossfire 5. I feel the sleds are pretty similar for the most part, so this could happen to mine. Best of luck. Suscribed
Thank you!
I would pull the magneto off and re check everything in there how is the keyway and key condition on the crank ? Maybe your key broke off
I'm going to get an OEM stator and see if that helps, this one ohms out but still may not be correct! I have pulled the motor and found the temp sensor for the ECU to be way out of spec so I am going to get a new one of those as well! Thanks for watching!
I'd suggest working through some troubleshooting standard flow chart logic. Won't start. You have fuel = good, you have air = good, you have compression = good, you have intermittent spark = bad. Stick on that (ignition issue) then work down the tree testing each component in the system until there tested (with a DMM or service manual suggested test method) and verified then on to next component, repeat until have spark, then should move on to the other 3 items need require to make a 2 stroke run. Verify each component (and test equipment), all test good then loose wire, broken wire, loose plug etc somewhere. Troubleshooting has best success being applied methodical, you clearly had a spark issue right away and until get spark no need to know other items until resolve as not going to start without unless want to know if is worth sinking money into. Concentrate on 1 item, verify, move on to next. I can't tell you what is wrong in the state is right now or without doing the troubleshooting steps and everyone else will just be a hopefully educated guess. Intermittent issues are the hardest to diagnose but you seem super patient so enjoy the process. I'd plug everything back in and start from the beginning with electrical, rarely do multiple components die at once. From the video seems like the other components required to make a 2 stroke run are healthy enough to at least fire if not idle for a bit even if one 1 cylinder is totally toasted a cat suzuki 700 efi will start and idle poorly if have consistent spark.
If you watch the other videos you will see that I in fact did go through each component to verify. That is how I narrowed it down to a few components. But multiple components can die at once with a voltage and or amperage spike from a bad stator. The cylinders and pistons/rings are fine it has about 500 miles on a fresh topend and ran fine before it stopped running out on the trail, fi you watch the first video of this series you'll see what happened. This is a very common problem with these sleds and nobody seems to have found the root cause of it and many sleds end up getting parted out.
Is their by pass plug for handle bars for ingiton
Its all disconnected. It's a normally open circuit so it can be disconnected and still run.
TSS switch is a common ignition killer. No spark when throttle not closed all way or if contacts inside throttle safety switch are toast. Can spray starter fluid directly in spark plug hole. Pull and see if fires. Can eliminate spark if fires
TSS is eliminated by being disconnected. I used some starting fluid in it to try to get it to fire again and it didn't.
If it’s fuel injected, Fuel pressure is important too.
Lol I own 25 selds mostly triples but I few twins I run 800 twin zrt 600 and 800 2 skidoo 800 triples polaris rxl650 and 800 storm
It's not a fuel problem I efi witch I don't own any its ground issue I'd run a ground wire from frame to motor to coil
I think it may be my temp sensor for the ECU, it ohms way higher than its supposed to and looks like its telling it to run in a super rich state. But just a guess!
