Hey! The number of views on this video is: 4K.
it's native now W
BRO!! Nice video!
Thanks Hallé :)
Hm, after a minute or two i got the feeling I'm in one of those late night radio shows where the audience can phone in to recite their self-written (lost) love poems.
How to get pre-sets to appear in cubase daw drop down?
The EV2 seemed to have a unique gating characteristic when I tried it. May have just been a fluke of how I set it at the time.
The whole time I watched this video, I thought to myself it didn't sound THAT much better than version 1, but when it went up against the L2? I had my eyes closed and instantly thought there was no comparison. Fabfilter really do make some wonderful plugins.
That they do!
Great review & overview here. Would love to see one on the NEOLD V76U73 too!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. I will add the V76 to the list!
@@mr_bradsmith Sweet! Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Great side-by-side comparison! Well, the UAD is now native! I think that may be pushing it over the SSL 4KE based on your final thoughts? Although the UAD was a bit "thinner" as you said, the 4KE was scooped; so midrange was a bit lacking and the bottom-end was more apparent. Yes I heard that too, and I was listening on Auratones of all speakers! If you were to boost up the bottom-end in the UAD, just a touch to match, then I think that would have been the best, overall package and presentation.
Glad you like the comparison! Thank you! Definitely excited to have the UAD native now. And with sidechain abilities no less! I'm already reaching for it over the SSL 4KE!
can you just use a good saturator and high pass filter inside of one? Its super cheap right now, but dont know if itll just be another plugin i can get the same results out of w.e i already have..
Certainly you can use other saturation plugins that have filtering included. Definitely an option.
His stuff sounds incredible.
Signal flow: When EQ PRE-POST is switched out (EQ is 'pre'): High-Pass > ( Phase Correction > EQ > Compressor > Drive ) When EQ PRE-POST is switched in (EQ is 'post'): High-Pass > ( Phase Correction > Compressor > Drive > EQ )
More de esser on yer voice…. Annoying
Nice SSL plugin comparison video. Thanks. UAD SSL sounds excellent.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for checking it out!
Never forget you can take anyone of these plugins and make an amazing mix.
Completely agree!
Wow. What a comparison. Excellent!
Glad you dig it!
Please UAD make the SSL native!! i think it sounded the best btw
Fingers crossed UAD does that soon!
They did!
The UAD sounds better to my ears. That's weird 🤔. One would think that the SSL company would release the best version of their console emulation software.
UAD SSL sounds a birth harsh and too aggressive for me. I also highly prefer to work in the SSL own plugin. But that's just a preference.
Just finding this review. I purchased Guitarstrip, Vocal Strip 2 and Drumstrip for like $20 each, so i felt like it was a steal. I started with using SSL Channel Strip 2, and decided how much i actually loved their products. Great, thorough review and like someone else said, great example for EQing guitars. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the review! Thank you! SSL has done an incredible job with their plugins. I love’em as well!
Man this is one of the best comparisons I've ever seen on YT ! Cheers!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Mr. Brad, you sound like a late night radio host. Subbed.
Haha! Thank you! Much appreciated.
How does this compare to a fairchild?
Both are vari-mu compressors with similar feels. The Wunderlich feels a bit more grabby to me and harder to use subtly. If I were to just be comparing the compressor to say the UAD Fairchild, I would choose the UAD. But certainly the Wunderlich as an overall tone shaping box has a few more bells and whistles included.
I just enjoy your reviews, the rittem and tone. I use everything from Newfangled. fantastic stuff.▶
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the reviews! I absolutely love Newfangled as well. That new delay is something else!!
6db of gain on the shelves and lack of Q is a dealbreaker for a workhorse strip unfortunately..
The EQ is definitely limited, but great sounding.
Any idea how this compares sonically to Sand (their SSL channel emulation)?
I haven't done a direct comparison, no. But just from a workflow and feature set standpoint, I would go with Frost over Sand. Especially since it's on their hyper tech engine which makes it far more responsive and processor friendly.
I thought Sand was Hyper already?
@joshd265 Sand isn’t hyper yet. It’s still on their core engine I believe.
Nice one! I'm definitely checking it out!
Yeah I think you would dig the vibe of all of the Safari plugs!
Sounds super good! But it really should have auto gain built in (at least as an option like the oversampling).
The website says it has auto gain
I found it. It’s in the top right corner of the plugin
There is auto gain, yes. Unfortunately, it doesn’t compensate for the Grit feature.
I only got part way through this one but had to stop almost immediately and check out that Carter and The Capitals video. Oh man, that is so good! Great tune and great video - how can you go wrong with a retro bowling vibe :-D. You always feature some of the best tunes when doing your reviews. It keeps me coming back and rewatching. Now to back to our regularly scheduled program....
Glad you dig the track, Jim! Incredible band. Was lucky to get to co-produce, record, mix, and master this one! A lot of fun. And the video is so great and fun!
@@mr_bradsmith Sounds amazing! Great work on the sound and vibe, Brad. A perfect 70s Saturday groove, if that makes sense. Love it!
@@jimslominski8006 Makes sense! That was what the band was aiming for! Thanks Jim!
Right on Jim!!
I haven't even watched this one but I'm just happy that the big dawg is back at it again!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you 🙏 🙏
Thanks for the in-depth review! We appreciate it a lot.! I will try to include a redo/undo in a future update.! Great idea!!
Thank you! Congratulations on the release!
I had to comment on this video. I love the originality of your approach to the review process. Please keep being you. Thanks for the insights. :)
What a wonderful message to receive! Thank you! Fills up the tanks. I’m glad you dig the video!
I'm just here for the ASMR... miss you Brad!
Haha! Thanks Kelsey. Your new renter is a gem! Miss you, too!
Reminds me a bit of Acustica's Mystic. I'm going to have to do an A/B against that one.
Jim! Great to hear from you! Was worried I lost ya. Haven’t tried that Mystic yet. That’s the Tree Branch strip emulation isn’t it?
@@mr_bradsmith Yes that’s right, it’s a Tree Audio Branch emulation. I’ve only just recently picked it up and have been using it as a mojo vibe plugin. I’ve found myself going down the Acustica rabbit hole a bit, along with Nebula. I really like some of the Nebula stuff but the setup is a pain. I switched over to Reaper, which makes it easier, as there are a couple of tricks I use to lay the Nebula plugins out better. And, no, you didn’t lose me. I’ve been watching all your reviews and always love your them. I’m glad you remember me. Last year was a tough year. My son, who has a disability, ended up in the hospital for a while so we spent most of the year helping with his recovery. All is much better now. I’ve been keeping up on all the music stuff but staying a bit low key. I saw you took a bit of a hiatus yourself, so good to see you back again as well. I’ll make sure to chime in more often. Your vids really are some of the best - very honest road tests filled with solid real world knowledge. Cheers!
I’m grateful you’re still watching, Jim. And thank you for the kind words :) I am very sorry to hear about your son’s health and the difficult year. And I’m happy things are much better. That’s great news! My hiatus over the last year was also family health related unfortunately. So I can certainly understand keeping things low key. Grateful to be back making videos though as it is a nice creative outlet. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on any upcoming reviews!
@@mr_bradsmith Hey Brad, I'm glad to hear things are better on your end as well. I hope it wasn't overly serious. My best to you and your kin. I have to say that the last year really opened my eyes to the healing powers of music. Not in any mystical sense, but there is something buoyant and binding in listening to music, playing music, working with and being creatively engaged with it. This was true for our whole family, whether we were nostalgically holding onto our comfort bands or songs, or picking up a vinyl copy of The Muppets Christmas Carol soundtrack 🙂. Anyway, it did seem to help keep us afloat in some way. I did get a chance to try out Wunderlich last night and this morning, and A/B it against Mystic. It wasn't extensive. I just applied it on a vocal track. My initial impression is they are very much the same, or at least seem to have similar intentions and applications. I'm not even sure I can definitively say which I like best. There are elements of both I like more in one than the other, but not drastically. In general, my impression with Mystic is it's a bit more 3-D and a little brighter edged. But Wunderlich has a bit more grit and more of that mojo flavour. Definitely the drive in Wunderlich has that pleasant distortion, that you can ratchet down to taste. I wasn't able to get Mystic to break up in that same way. There's also an obvious difference in the compressors. The Mu is definitely gooey-er and some nice weight, a bit sporadic though, depending on the speed applied. The Mystic has more of an opto flavour, which is also really pleasant. Hard to describe the real difference. Maybe I can say the Mu is a bit darker and girthier, and the opto rides things a bit more and has sheen. But I'm not sure if those are accurate descriptions. In terms of the "Travel" filter on Wunderlich versus Mystic, I think I liked the Mystic filter a bit better. The high cut on Mystic sounds to me like it darkens gradually and musically, whereas the Wunderlich feels a bit all-or-nothing and it just kind of dampens the high end too drastically. As for the Mix knobs, I believe Wunderlich's is slightly more effective and easier to dial in a sweet spot. I'm not sure the Mystic Mix knob does much actually - the GUI is a little janky and the range feels too tight. I have other Acustica stuff, like El Rey 2, where the Mix knob is really, really effective and sounds great, and you can really dial a good parallel compression into it. Overall, for mojo, I'm leaning towards Wunderlich, but there is something nice that happens with Mystic as well. It's a toss up. Looking forward to your next one.
@@jimslominski8006 Thanks for A/B notes, Jim! I will definitely have to give that Mystic a go!
Really love the drive of this thing. Its a really nice distortion. Got many creative uses for pushing it.
The drive sounds great. Hard to make sound bad!
I love how you enjoy your detailed reviews, great info... Thanks Man🎶
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy the reviews!
Terrific and thorough review - and a fun presentation too. Great job
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the review :)
Best mix bus plugin for me… simple amazing
Thanks for the review! The plugin does sound great! Really loved this song ‘The rough side drag’ by Jay Sparrow! One of the best songs I heard lately 👍🏼
Thanks! Glad you dig the track! Mr. Sparrow just put out a new record a couple of weeks ago actually. Pretty different vibe though.
Yea man. I'm vibing on the track and ignoring half the video. Lmao. Sorry Mr Smith... I will rewatch. Hahahaha.
@@jamescuttsmusicjcm5013 Glad you dig the track!
I think elysia did the one off hardware prototype thing with Phil’s Cascade for Plugin Alliance years ago so they might be the ones to credit for such cool commitment to emulations. Love your run throughs! Keep em coming. ✌️
It’s coming from the same team ;-)
Thanks, Gus! I'm glad you're digging the reviews :)
Man every time I see one of your video popping up - I know I’m going to neeeed that plugin in my workflow Thanks for such high quality curation, picking up the jewels of the INtheBox world
Those are very kind words! Thank you! I’m pumped you dig the reviews!
One of the best plugins out there, Neold also owns Fuse Audio Labs, which has a lot of incredible plugin emulations.
@@aviatedviewssound4798 I didn't know they owned Fuse Audio Labs too, that company is a hidden gem!
Amazing work as always big bro!! Now I'm here wishing NEOLD could release the shelving EQ from this thing as its own module!😂 Keep the great work coming.. I'm here for it!✨
Thank you! Feels like I'm getting back into the groove of things. Grateful for the support 🤘🤘
"Subtly Dramatic" is the best description of this plug in , I was trying to put it in to words for the last couple of days!!!
Wow, what a review! Great detail and well-founded comments... really cool. Thank you very much for spending the time and sharing this.
Glad you dig the review! Thank you. Beautiful sounding plugin and I love how you folks cook these things up. Very unique! Congrats on the release!
Elysia Phil's Cascade was the first plugin built in this way as far as I know and weird enough everything I wished that Phil's Cascade would be is now in NEOLD Wunderlich! great job guys at NEOLD you guys read minds and hearts
Cool video! This is actually my new favourite plugin sounds great on the Master bus with my Drawmer 78 hardware the Eq definitely reminds me of analog Eq.
Thank you! Glad you’re digging the P455 :)
NICCCEEEEE B-RAD!
Thanks, Marc! 🙏 Congrats on an incredible plugin!
21:04 Now Let's go to -36... and then the look on your face... is priceless :) Op-amp saturates sharp transients which feels like being compressed. If you don't emulate that behavior, then transients stay clean and sharp.
Honestly just love how much work I can do with this EQ before even thinking about any sort of dynamic control or enhancement.
Good to see you back sir! I watched your review on the sidecar too. I have to say, this was an instant buy for me after seeing MDN's video. But your supplemental video was very informative as well. To that: I loved the UAD comparison here! I almost bought it, but I compared a demo against Lindell's API which I have... and it was so close that I held off. My purchase of the Sidecar has redeemed me. 😊 This was a thoughtful comparison. Yes. Both this and the P455 are a wonder to have. Thanks again ✌
Thank you! Glad to hear the additional video and the comparison was helpful. And I’m pumped you’re digging the sidecar. It’s a stunner! I never properly dived into that Lindell beyond the buss channels. Will have to give that another go!
@@mr_bradsmith Indeed. The P450/55’s are special. Especially, the depth :) It must’ve been exciting to be a tester! The converters were just a brilliant idea. Although, MDN doesn’t specify for the P455, there’s a comparison video of his five favorites. Based on that, I have a sneaking suspicion the two offered may be: Willie > Burl B2? Atticus > JCF Audio? 🤷🏻♂️ RE: Lindell vs UAP. I feel they are both API spank-tastic. I like the FET/VCA and 3 EQ options in the Lindell especially :)
Ah! Thanks for the converter info. Good to know! It was a lot of fun to be on the beta. A lot of passionate folks on the beta. It was great!
@@Tyrell_Corp2019you got one right.
@@ZiadSidawi First off: Thank you for the amazing work sir! It’s a total game changer. I feel like a mere mortal who snuck away with Thor’s hammer. But this is too much for me now. Without spilling the beans… would I be too presumptuous in wondering if Willie is the bad boy here barking at a “Bench” instead? 😊
Thanks for review
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
Great video! I just got into SSL and have the Channel Strip 2, the Bus Compressor, and the X-saturator; and am now looking to complete the bundle as it were-- with the other plugins. But looking at channel strips, would you recommend also getting the 4K B and the newest 4K E, because they are significant investments price-wise, given that I'm super impressed by and satisfied with the Channel Strip 2 (which is a 9000K)?
Thank you! I'm glad you dig it! I think if you're happy with the CS2, I would just stick with that. It's great. Especially since they've added the HQ option. The only thing it's missing is saturation, but you have the X-Saturator. I would maybe look to add some other tools that would round out rig.
@@mr_bradsmith Thanks for your reply. I'm now eyeing the X-Delay, X-EQ2, and I'm kicking myself for missing out on the FlexVerb sale that just ended. But such is life. My sound has improved immensely since I got the CS2 and now I'm getting used to just tickling the gain reduction needle on the Bus Compressor- to great success! :) Cheers and looking forward to new videos!
