Does the Wireless Meshing have an impact on the performance of Ubiquiti access points?
I have retested the Ubiquiti U7 Pro Max to see if leaving the wireless Meshing enabled would have an impact on the performance of the WiFi 7 AP. And you can see the results for yourself.

    how do u compare ubiquiti mesh vs say tplink deco/omada and asus? for tplink deco, they can do wired or wireless backhaul. and do a mix like have 1 ap wired, but the other wireless. also it has good roaming performance for wifi clients when moving about when handing switching between the closest aps. i just don't know how the ubiquiti especially their newer models perform as ap meshing in comparison

    • @hungryafrican420
      @hungryafrican420 3 часа назад

      I personally have used both and the wireless meshing system on ubiquiti works just as well, however given the cost and performance of ubiquiti gear, using it as such neuters and defeats the purpose of buying into the unifi ecosystem. There are also a few caveats attached with the wireless uplinking and as always mesh may or may not work well in your own environment.

    Hmm. Have you tried using something like meshing a Unifi Express with a client hardwired into the Express? I'd be interested to see the results of a client hardwired into a Unifi Express saturating the wireless mesh connection. I have a Unifi Express in my living room with an Xbox hardwired into it. The Express is meshed to a U7 Pro currently and I can definitely see how the wireless performance can be impacted on the U7 Pro when the Xbox is downloading an update, for instance.

    I had/have a ac hd as a paper weight due to ubiquiti not servicing their products. I had a electromagnetic surge from lightning that hit nearby my house it corrupted the boot loader so it's stuck in a boot loop. the regular nanohd on my network was unphased by it. I called ubiquiti to see if they'd service it or offer a refurb like some companies will if you return the broken one and pay a set fee, but they do not offer those services. I'm very hesitant to buy another ubiquiti product because I've never had this issue with any access points before and it seems like this should have been fixable instead of throwing it away. I could see this same thing happening with the fan. Fan's die, especially when they collect dust over time. I only had my ac hd for a year and just out of warranty

    Just FYI, today, there was a different one available on everyone's favorite mass e-commerce reselling platform from South America. This one is ASIN: B0CVJPCQFJ The new one is: B0DFHRYRH6 and it's called the MSI Herald-BE WI-FI 7 MAX There is a huge external difference, but same antenna. It says it's out of stock already. The MAX comes with a shield around it like it's really supposed to, but that makes it harder to rob and put in a laptop like some people are doing. Qualcomm NCM865 like the naked card. Same price. So I don't know if there are any differences on the inside or if this is just an update to put their logo on it and hide the M.2 E Key slot and card. The MSI website did not seem to have the drivers listed, so it's hard to see if they are shipping the same ones. Maybe they are waiting on FCC ID to get their parts shipping or something. Also, only the global MSI website had the new one. The USA site doesn't.

    What a lousy list of reasons. 1. MLO is still implemented. The first EA firmware is out there and Intel is also working on it (I got that BE200 non-vPro also). Let them develop it further. The mechanism is still young. 2. Yeah, that's what you get with new technologies. You'll be happy in 1½ year from now that you got it. 3&4. The U6-Mesh was warm. Be happy that they build it in. It will work, when it needs it. They put it there with a purpose. 5. Same as point 2, it's early and you'll be happy in a year or so. And there are lots of devices with WiFi 6E at the 6GHz band, so be happy that 6GHz AP's are getting cheaper, now WiFi7 AP's are introduced. You know what? Send it over to me. I guess I can appreciate the device more, and start making some positive RUclips video's.

    • @SamBondor
      @SamBondor 4 дня назад

      1. I don't think it's wise to buy stuff with the promise they will perform in a certain way in the future. Probably Ubiquiti will offer MLO and it will work great at which point everyone, including myself will be happy. And may be they will not. 2. The device is too hot. You can see it in the video, it will burn your fingers. The fan doesn't do anything. On the U7 Pro, it worked fine, but not on the U7 Pro Max. I get that you like Ubiquiti and, while I try to stay agnostic, I have been fond of them for years as well. But by god, the U7 Pro Max is not a good device. But maybe you're right and things will get better soon. I will do a video of reasons why you should buy it when that happens. I will gladly send it over, but I still need to run some tests until it gets better, if it does. Let's talk again after about a year.

    • @petervandebeek5980
      @petervandebeek5980 3 дня назад

    Ubiquiti in recent years always use these markings words like ultra or max to make its products sounds Powerful, but after several years of using its Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 5 Access points I think their intro to middle level products like unifi nano HD and unifi 6 plus or unifi 6 Pro have better cost-performance ratio. And Wi-Fi 7 seems like to have a long road to replace Wi-Fi 6 cause Wi-Fi 6 provides a significant increase in speed and range but Wi-Fi 7 does not. MLO is good but if using 2.4 with 5g it will increase latency and dual band 5g or dual band 6g seems like a better solution

    • @SamBondor
      @SamBondor 5 дней назад

      To be fair, both ASUS and Xiaomi have implemented MLO to work only with the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz radio bands. Perhaps adding the 6GHz is more challenging or maybe they stretch the release of new features as long as possible to always have something new and exciting for each router/AP generation. I genuinely don't know.

    at 2:46 6th ports along from the Left, there are 2 Capacitors in a vertical row, could anybody help me out and let me know the value of the top cap? just purchased some faulty Routers and one turned out to be a pro. The Metal heatsink had fallen off its mounts and knocked the cap off 😞Thanks! Edit: actually I just noticed the 86u has the same row of Caps, so ill pull one of another Router and test 🙂

      I do have a higher-res video with more detail, but I couldn't see any number unfortunately. (I am sorry but I will not open this router ever again :) ..)

    No 6Ghz band and no 10Gbe inputs, so unless you want a glorified WiFi6 router, this is trash

    I was able to install and get adguardhome working, I used the simpledocker graphical interface(Professional mode, installed it as a host, default env variables) however when I was in the Adguard web setup, it said that port 53 was not available, to fix this, I ran xmir-patcher to gain Root SSH access and changed the dnsmasq port to 54, also followed the first steps from the openwrt adguardhome guide, (the first 4 steps) You can configure DNS forwarding with the router web interface, but it won't block ads for the guest wifi or (any other custom SSID you add using UCI thru SSH, I created another one for IoT devices), it is better to setup DNS forwarding using UCI commands or modifying the files using SCP and your preferred editor. So once you get SSH access follow the Adguardhome Openwrt documentation to further optimize the configuration(DNS hijacking, etc)

      Would the steps be about the same for pihole?, I'm able to get the container using the simpledocker ui with the pull option but when I turn it on it wont let me go to the website and im assuming this is the issue? Also what's the difference from host and bridge, not sure what to choose im too new to this. Edit: gonna do adguard home, thought it was a paid thing. Will still need help with the dnsmasq port thing

      Im still confsued about the root ssh access thing and changing the port, I did uci set dhcp.@dnsmasq[0].port="54" but it still didn't work. NVM I didn't realize i had to to restart the router.

      @@titoepfx4272 some of it applies, after making changes, don't forget to commit and restart the services uci commit dhcp /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart BTW if you google "4pda be7000", you will find a forum thread for this router, full of tips and fixes, is in russian but google translate helps, I was able to set up portainer, adguard home, homebridge, etc, disable the hidden wifis(IoT, mesh), enable permanent SSH, winscp also helps with editing the config files, I even got htop from generic arch64 releases and ran it from /data/auto/

    I wonder what os this runs, probably some asuswrt but atleast some linux based os. It also seems to have a uart port so i think it might be possible to install openwrt but sadly broadcom is really not open about their drivers and their floss drivers are non existent almost

    Hello. Having recently taken the fiber optic I wanted to modernize in a router more powerful. At first I wanted to take the same router as you as I had read in comments that you could put an alternative firmware but I was thinking of a merlin firmware and not at all an openwrt firmware. As I hadn't been able to find any more information on the subject, I looked for another Asus model that I was sure I could install the merlin firmware. Now, while looking for more information on the Asus TUF-AX6000 router I received, I came across your video. I admit it's bad luck

      OpenWRT offers a very nice selection of features, but yes, you do lose some of the core ones, such as AiMesh..

      I'm going to have to flash the Asus tuf-ax6000 router quickly. The current system is too restrictive and I really have the impression that the manufacturer is becoming intrusive. I had used for years with the official firmware and firmware Merlin model router Asus ax56u. I'm new to flashing the Asus router with openwrt. I'm having trouble understanding everything with the steps indicated. But on the whole I have the impression that it's similar to your Asus AX4200 router.

    Great review, tks for this. Would love to see the U6 Enterprise included in your AP testbed, considering it is now going for the same price as the U7 Max Pro. I've read the latest FW (7.0.59) that you have installed on the U7 Max Pro resolved a lot of the Wifi 6E 6Ghz related issues, particularly performance being inconsistent / unstable on that frequency vs. U6 Ent, which has been a rock-solid performer. I'm on the fence as to which model to get 🤔

    • @SamBondor
      @SamBondor 10 дней назад

      Go with the U6 Enterprise. I have retested it a few days ago with the latest firmware and things are the same as before, more or less. I am also currently in the middle of writing the script of a video which addresses some main reasons not to get the U7 Pro Max, so yeah, not a fan of this access point.

    Do you know if this is the same process for the Asus tuf-ax6000?

      Yes, both routers have the same type of processor.
