Vans RV 10 - Wing Tip lens and Fitting FlyLeds Nav/Position Lights
Просмотров 728Год назад
Vans RV 10 build update - I have been trying to decide if I go with the FlyLed works kit which has the position, nav, landing, and taxi lights all in the wingtip. I have seen a number of reviews where people complain about dark areas directly Infront of the nose wheel as the angle of the wing tips cause the lights to be faced more directly forward. So i decided to purchase the wing lens kit fro...
Vans RV 10 - Vertical and Horizontal Stabilizer Fairings
Просмотров 915Год назад
Vans RV 10 build update - In this video I work on the fairings for the attachment point between the vertical / horizontal stabilizers and the rudder fairing with the FlyLed tail marker light. Vans suggested using a light to do the match drilling, I opted for my strap duplicator that allows me to duplicate the holes... not sure if this is better or worst but it seemed to work better for me. You ...

Vans RV 10 - SB18-03-30 ... Elevator Stop Fix
Просмотров 270Год назад
Vans RV 10 build update - Its been a while ( I have lacked some motivation / and also very busy traveling & Training) this is a minor update to complete the elevator stop fix to ensure that the elevator is not able to go beyond the stop. If this was to happen it could lock the elevator in an up position. I also learned it is a REALLY good idea to check for updates to the plans... it could save ...
Vans RV 10 - Doors Part 6 - Attaching to the Fuselage
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Год назад
Vans RV 10 build update - This is more minor trimming but actually attaching the doors to the hinges and the hinges to the main fuselage. Finally a working door. The instructions for attaching the hinges to the fuselage seemed wrong to me (I might have not read them correctly) . Based on the instructions one door would have the hinges slopped one way and the other the opposite. Ultimately I det...
Vans RV 10 - Doors Part 5 - Initial Trim and Fit
Просмотров 803Год назад
Vans RV 10 build update - This is the initial Trim of the doors (Which I have put off for a long time deciding the best way to do the cutting). Ultimately I ended up doing the initial Trimming with my Dremel Tool with a cutoff wheel. Then I fitted them to the openings and started sanding them to fit, or this I mainly used a 12" hand sander and my drill with a round sanding bit for cutting back ...
Vans RV 10 - The Big Move to the Hanger and creating the Wing Cradle
Просмотров 674Год назад
Vans RV 10 build update - A bit of a catch up in moving the build to a hanger, just a quick update on moving the build to the hanger and creating the holder for the wings. For the wings cradle I used the Wing cradle design from mouser which can be found at mouser.org/projects/rv-10/wingassembly.html. The build is very simple (he has all the dimensions) so I did not show me creating it but did s...

Where did you get your overhead console lights from? The swivels and Luggage? Awesome video's!
Can you please provide the brand and a web site to order the interior door handles.
Great Video! I'm looking at the same type of avionics so the library would be of great help
will post soon a video with reference to your video to thank you.
I appreciate the information you've compiled in your videos. Did you find the nutplate hardware to interfere with the rudder cable or cause any wear on the cable?
Are the two antenna reference the two comm antenna? Was that the final plan?
Would you be able to do an overview of the location of all of the antennas? Comms, GPS, Xpdr, adsb, etl? I'm in a bit of a quandary on where I want to put mine. Getting ready to put the bottom skin on and would prefer to add doublers before that goes on. Thanks, Brad
How many optimal quantity cleco needs for build RV7?
Thank you for this! I am working on my RV-9A panel and thinking about using my Cricut to make my labels also.
This is super informative!
Great overview. Thanks for sharing it!
Gotta bring up the mic volume by about 50%. It’s really low
Hey George, I notice you're doing a push button start. Curious to what exactly you're using and do you have any security concerns? I'll be at that point this summer and haven't worked it out in my head yet.
lol P 😊8mp 2:04
Wasn't there supposed to be an etching step? The aluminum look so shiny before the priming?
You need to use PreKote (which was in my spray bottle) to clean and prep the aluminum and then wash it down with water.
Thanks for taking the time to document! I’m really keen to see the results of water based vs epoxy; BUT what I’m really interested in hearing is the story behind the pile of flower petals!!! Yes, yes, the HVLP spray gun is cool but you didn’t even acknowledge the petals - what’s up with that??? 😉
WOW, now thats paying attention... first the flower petals - my wife does soap making and it was likely roses for her to grind up and use with one of her soap recipes. As far as the water based vs epoxy, so far the water based seems to work just fine inside the plane (you just need to let it dry completely) and sticks good. I don't believe its resistant to fuel and chemicals so it would require a top coat if used anywhere that might be an issue (check with the manufacturer). But its definitely is alot easier to use and clean up, but i dont feel (not quantified) that it makes the part as hard as the epoxy but for what i need it works great.
Fantástico.
thanks
I'd appreciate a copy of your KiCAD library - email sent.
I should have sent it to you. Cheers
I'm just starting planning my electrical for my RV10. Looks like we are planning about the same panel. I'd like to try the KIcad. can I get your work and library somehow? I'm on Van's Air force (lonkelm) if connecting there is easier. Nice work!!
not sure if I have sent it to you but if you email me at n323gj@gmail.com I will sent it over.
I am interested in your KiCad library to wire my plane. Great video. Thank you!
not sure if I have sent it to you but if you email me at n323gj@gmail.com I will sent it over.
OP-56 has some good suggestions on where to drill the hole for the wire, as well as general stuff for the tail light.
Thanks, I was looking at that the other day, looks pretty straight forward.
Another advantage of addressing the Service Bulletin now is that at this point you aren’t replacing painted rivets with unpainted ones, in a finished surface.
definately
Great Job George.
Thanks Brian
Thanks for the video. The overhead looks great. Please do an in depth video of the McMaster seals when the time comes. These have been super helpful!
Will do!
George, great job! How about using a finish router to trim the door?
Great idea, I will see about giving that a go - will let you know how it works out.
love those switches where did you acquire those?
I purchased these from WayTek, you can also get them from aircraft spruce but there were much more expensive when i purchased. The series is Carling Technologies; V1D1B60B-00000-000 1-Light, SPST, On-Off, 12V/20A Rocker Switch V1D1BT0B-00000-000 Red Light, SPST, On-Off, 12V/20A Rocker Switch VCH-01 8 Position Contura Switch Connector Housing and dont forget the mounting brackets, ends and connectors. Cheers George
Great job. Please do a write-up about the overhead console install process like you did with the doors!
Hopefully the latest video answers that :-)
Hi, I would like to fit one of these parking brake valves to my RV9 build, do the lines run from the P1 brake cylinders into the valve then direct to the main undercarriage legs to the brakes? thanks Chris
I would do the elevator SB, only took a few minutes. ruclips.net/video/U_uUT9N2ZZo/видео.html
yep, i just completed it as well.
Informative🙂
Thanks 🙂
Hi, we are building an RV-10 too. I've sent you an E-Mail.
hopefully you have had a reply if not please re-send
I'm still at the empenage stage, just looking ahead. So many are having trouble with the doors I was curious about it. Your video gives an excellent view of the task. Doesn't look that hard, just extremely patience and a steady hand. Thanks for posting. This was very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
This makes me want to build an RV10 ; )
I started this as something to get a more cost effective and flexible option than certificated for flying. After the delays with the pandemic it has become more of an experience thing to complete, as it really did have a negative impact on my flying. I think I would have completed this much faster (my level of commitment and access to materials) except for the pandemic. This really did interrupt the flow dramatically much more than I would have expected as other priorities started to creep into the mix.
Good job . What's with the fireworks?
Just very happen i got to this point... it was a long somewhat stressful road to cut the doors and not make a huge mess. :-)
Hi there. I sent you an email a while back, would love to get a copy of the Kicad library. Thanks
Sure, Sorry about the delay - but you should have them now.
HI there, curious as to what unit is out there that is an all-in-one that you referenced in the video. Also have you noticed any creep in the settings or has it been pretty steady?
Still doing the build so not sure yet if there will be creep, the unit I was referring to was phaviation.com/products/product-category/rv-10-14-flap-actuator/ - not sure if I will change it but it looks pretty cool.
@@aleafonthewind3775 Thanks so much!
Thanks for your RV10 updates! I am building one too, and your videos are great information!!!
Glad you find them helpful, just decide on what you think is right... this is a first for me so not an expert, dont have a clue what im doing, at anything except rework :-)
Happy New Year!
Same to you!
Wow! Great content :D! Get to the top quicker = Promo sm !
thanks
ive been looking for something like this for a while. love to get access to you library. i agree that the schematics shouldn't be shared for liability sake. question......can you have a template for particular components, like a Garmin GMA340 audio panel. can you then for a new project (install), bring in those various templates you have created, and interface them together quickly? love to talk to you about that.
yes thats what i have been doing is creating different components and adding them to the library. You can then wire them in the schematics
what size compressor did you pair up with the paint gun? scfm?
I have a 30 Gal compressor with 6.2 SCFM At 40 PSI. Not sure if you need that much b/c you really run the air gun at very low pressure - just need to make sure it does not run out of air. I would look at air guns and make sure you verify the SCFM. Cheers George
Thanks, I really appreciate your videos.
np, thanks for the support
Hello, Would you still be willing to share your library?
yep, you will need to validate it as you assemble - i need to setup an email so i can share, and then you can send me the request to that email.
@@aleafonthewind3775 let me know when you get that set up. Thanks.
Anyone wanting to contact me directly can do so by sending to N323GJ@gmail.com - I don't monitor this all the time but I will respond. So if you are looking for the library or sharing something.
@@aleafonthewind3775 Awesome. I sent you an email as well and would love to see if I can use the library.
I Did not get an email from you? You might want to send it again.
Are you still happy with your paint booth? I’m considering using one on my -14A project.
Definitely, works really well for this project
Good Job George
Thanks Norm, Actually its getting real - the doors are a major milestone as it really does basically complete the major portion of the shell of the plane . Wings are next and should be here within a month.
I applaud you for using lacing and not zip ties.
Thanks, i thought about using just zip ties, but the lacing really does give it a clean look and its feels more secure and robust. However, I have already re-done a couple of these several times as i add wires i missed and plan the routing.
I'm at KTTN doing final assembly on an RV-9A. I also have the G3X Touch and will be integrating it with an iPad and Foreflight. Are you in the same area?
I bounce between KDYL and KSBY but close - might be nice to connect
@@aleafonthewind3775 I’m on Facebook
Greetings, Are you still willing to share your libraries. I would love to get a copy but still figuring out how to send you my email. Thanks, Woody
definitely, this is the one part I was not able to determine either. Originally RUclips was holding the chat with emails so i could read it and then delete but that's not how it is working now. If we cant figure it out i might create an email for the channel so people can send me emails directly.
@@aleafonthewind3775 Let me create a email that I won't use for anything else, I can post that and then just delete the comment when you confirm that you have it. Certainly appreciate it. Woody

Vic Syracuse just posted a video on his channel about using thin washers instead of a metal strip. Go check that out, it looked pretty good.
Yep I had seen that as well, frankly i did the strips because it did not require me to align the washers to the holes :-)
Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing. Did you create all those harnesses yourself or did you order them ? I have signed up for an avionics class coming up in Dec, but debating on its value.
I created all of the harnesses, I also did the avionics class for me it was not really that much value for me (I do a lot of wiring / electronics). But it was definitely a refresher and I did use it to get some hints on how to select some of the electronics and antenna's.
