Puppet head rotating, to see the structure how it is mounted.
This shows the puppet head published on Thingiverse: www.thingiverse.com/thing:6545436 It may help you to see, how things are mounted. Basically I did not plan to publish this puppet face/head, because it was intended just to show the capabilities of the bechele software in the demo video ruclips.net/video/QalkR-c4_Ys/видео.html, but people have asked for it, so I published the puppet face/head.

Demo of bechele open source animatronic software 2.0

This is a short demo for the bechele 2.0 open source animatronic software. This video took me about 2 hours to set up, though 24 servos are moving in the two heads. The software is open source and was initially intended to perform ventriloquist like puppet shows. But the software ist not limited to that, it may be used always if you need to move an animatronic model synchronized to music or spe...

      Thanks a lot, I designed this just to involve more servos to the models, so I could show the capabilities of the bechele animatronics software. Building the lips involved a lot of manual steps to get the flexible rubber bellows. The core of the bellows was 3D printed, but applying the rubber milk using a brush was a manual process.

    Love this project! Yet I'm having issues putting the stand together. Do you have a more detailed explanation on how to build the puppet stand with the names of the parts etc.?

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 2 месяца назад

      Hello, I admit, that it may be a little tricky to put all parts to the right place. If you have a CAD program, you may load the file Demohead.stp into it. Then you can see, where which part belongs. The zip file (demohead.zip) containins all parts and also the stp file (all parts mounted). You find on the following page: bechele.de/?p=1206 If you have no CAD Software, you may download and install FreeCAD: www.freecad.org Another source of Info how things are mounted is the video: ruclips.net/video/Qj-uKgw153A/видео.html. If you cant get ahead, just drop me a line and explain in detail what you need to know, so I can try to explain. Keep in mind, that the demohead I just made to show the capabilities of the bechele software. It was initially not intended to be shared, but because people asked for it, I decided to publish the parts for 3D printing. The red lips for example are out of red latex rubber I applied with a brush in serveral iterations onto the waxed "lip core".

    • @eranmanor2615

      @@Bechelede Thank you! the STP file did help a lot and I managed to identify most of the parts. I'm left with one part - 'Upper Jaw Axis' which I couldn't figure out where it should go, could you assist me with that?

    • @eranmanor2615
      @eranmanor2615 2 месяца назад

      One more question,,,,, regarding the 'latex_lip_core' part. I couldn't quite understand how it fits in. the CAD model file itself is a bit different from the one that is demoed on the videos (it has kind of a rectangle 'stand' which is not showing on the videos), and it is not clear how the lower & upper lip pieces connect to it

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 2 месяца назад

      Sorry for the late reply. The upper jaw axis is the rotation point of the upper lever (jaw) where the upper lips are mounted to on the ouside. The upper jaw axis fixes the lever on the inner side, so the upper lips can move up and down. The rectangle stand I just made to prevent the heads from jumping around on the table. Some heavy weight on the stand would do the same job.

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 2 месяца назад

      The lip core is just a form for the latex lip. After applying about 5 to 7 layers of latex milk, and complete drying, the lip needs to be powdered using french chalk or baby powder. After that the rubber lip may be stripped from the core. Two of the lip halfs may be glued together with a little latex milk. After drying again, I cut a hole in the middle (glueing point) of the lips, just large enough, so the front of the jaws fit inside. Then I put two small (4 mm diameter) glass pearls inside either tip of the lip. The pearls make sure, the lips do not slip out of the mouth edges during movement. Then I applied two more chain pearls onto the jaw lever ends. After carefully pulling the lips through the hole I cut into the lip middle over the jaw lever end and the applied pearls, the lip middle is fixed to the jaw. Because the lips are out of rubber, they can be stretched an squeezed as the levers move.

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 3 месяца назад

      Dear Jadson, many thanks for the question. Unfortunately that does not work, because 1.st The bechele software only runs on linux and 2nd a PC does not provide an i2c interface, you could connect an i2c PWM device to. So you need a computer that runs linux and that provides an i2c interface. Further to use all functions, the GPIO device of a RaspberryPI like mini computer is required. Many of the Boards listed here could run the bechele software: www.armbian.com/download/?device_support=Standard%20support&arch=aarch64 However, if you want it easy, I recommend to use whether a RaspberryPi 1b, RaspberryPi 3b or an OrangePi-PC, because for these boards exist ready prepared SD Card images. If you want to stay with PC, perhaps this Software may help you further: github.com/knee-koh/MarIOnette Both bechele and MarIOnette are open source. Bottango for example also runs on a PC, but the license is restricted to beta use for free. I guess one fine time the software will be sold ....

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 4 месяца назад

      How the SD card is prepared is unimportant, because an image writer just copies all - including formatting. After installation of the image not all space of the card is in use - only about 2,5 to 3GB. Only if you want to use the rest of the card it becomes a little more complicated. But for starting, there should be enough space left on the file system. So increasing the file system size is just an option.

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 4 месяца назад

      @@Tamla1959Sure, the file system (depending on which image you use) has still at least 350 MB free space. Two MP3s of 224 Kbit/s @ 3 minutes have perhaps 15 MB and the servo movement files are far smaller. So you don't need to worry about the space of the minimized file systems.

    Have you heard of botango

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 6 месяцев назад

      Dear Simobomb6475, many thanks for the question! Yes, I have seen it already, it looks to me like animation in blender. I think it is very similar to blender's animation function. Probably it derives from that (that is just my guess). It is certainly a very nice project. However the approach is completely different, With bottango you define movements based on positions and movement curves from one to another position, but doing animation this way is quite time consuming: Assume you have a 3 minute clip ( a talking or singing puppet) and you have just 5 servos. And further assume you have just 3 movement changes a second, then you have to set 5 x 180 * 3 = 2700 curves to set. If it takes you just 10 seconds per curve, it sums up to 27000 seconds = 7.5 hours to set up a 3 minute clip. Using a joystick and my software it takes you only about 30 to 40 minutes to get a ready made animation for all five servos. This little calculation does not include the need to syncronise to music and the movement and the numberless repeats in bottango to see if all appears fluently fitting. The bottango demo video only shows the creation of a five second movement and therefore already needs two minutes, although it is clear that the demo video is a condensed view. My software does not claim to compete against such "huge commercial projects", but offers an easy to use, fast and open source alternative if you need to synchronize movement and sound. The "old mac donalds song" animation for example, took me about 1 hour to set up and the yellow head has 10 servos!

    • @Bechelede

      unfortunaltely the Software I wrote only supports PCA9685 PCBs that are connected to the Raspi pin header via I2C. The Software could be relatively easy modified to allow several PCA9685 boards to support more Servo channels (currently 16), but I did not realize this up to now. @Bechelede thanks for getting back to me the board I have I paid 34 dollars which isn't bad but I didn't know what else to choose at the time. I was planning on using two of them because. I have 4 characters between the 4 for characters in total for 4 characters will be 40 servos and and sssc32u just one of them can hold 32 servos just in need now for a programming software. I currently almost have one of the 4 characters almost built and ready to start setting and testing servo movement and programming the movements. If I can't use my current board with your software. I'm very open to any suggestions to be able to use your software im looking forward to bringing these characters to life and watching them perform for the first time.

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 11 месяцев назад

      As you can see in the video, the teaching process to record the movements is quite simple. However currently you can use only 16 channels per RASPI. I think the decision which way to go is something you have to figure out. For all the software in my project you can modifiy the sources as you desire and all is free according to GNU V3.0. If you run into trouble I can give you one or the other tip. Perhaps you have already seen my web site: bechele.de/?page_id=70 I recommend to read the readme from the software package for more details: bechele.de/?page_id=188 I would be glad if you'd have a closer look, if this is sufficient for your purpose. However keep in mind, that this is a non commercial private project, so support in case of problems may be limited by the fact that this is just a hobby for me.

      Hello, the first question is easy to answer: That is what the software is made for - see: bechele.de/?page_id=73 The second wish is not so easy to realize, since sequences are usually started by a button press, so you need to find a way to trigger the movement sequence and even more difficult the voice needs to be translated into senseful movements . I think my software is not the right thing for that.

    • @Bechelede

      Gute Frage ! Die Primer kann man bestellen. Einfach nach Cyanacrylat Primer im Netz suchen. Leider sind die Primer nicht ganz billig. Braucht man große Mengen, am besten selber machen. Über eine Patentrecherche wird man fündig. Einige Patente dafür sind abgelaufen.

    Was heißt denn Batterien leersaugen? Ich hab meinen Kobi jetzt so ca. 10 Jahre und die Batterie werde ich bal zum zweiten Mal wechseln. Alle 5 Jahre - da kann man nicht von ständig leersaugen sprechen.

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 2 года назад

      Sie haben recht, die Batterien halten rechnerisch ca. 200 Jahre, wenn man die unvermeidbare Selbstendladung nicht einrechnet. Dennoch können die Batterien schnell leergesaugt werden und zwar dann, wenn unbeabsichtigt Tasten gedrückt sind. Dass passiert leicht, wenn das Teil in einer Schublade liegt und andere Gegenstände auf die Tasten drücken. Insofern hilft die Modifikation schon. Leider wurde mir der Sachverhalt erst nach dem Video bekannt. Sonst hätte ich darauf hingewiesen.

      Dann hattest du Glück beim Nachkaufen der Batterien. Ich habe Varta Batterien nachgekauft und weniger Glück, denn sie hielten nur 4 bis 6 Monate, wohingegen die originalen ein paar Jahre hielten. Ich habe das Problem mit allen CR 2025 Batterien in sämtlichen Geräten. Die neuen halten nur ein Bruchteil der Zeit der alten…

    Don't you feel that even there are insane cheap kitchen scales (ie Lidl, Aldi, AE,...) nothing pays the pleasure of building your own? Thanks for sharing; one more time.

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 2 года назад

      That is true, there are surely cheaper solutions. I think the advantage for my own solution is the possibility to calibrate it very accurately. After calibration I found for 3KG an inaccuracy of about 0.2 g OK, for food recipes it is not that important, but the project can be used for any other purpose and weight, since the weight unit in use does not matter. And the quality is just dependeing on the repeating accuracy, because it can be calibrated. So I think the good thing is not the design of the scale, but the software I wrote for the arduino.

    Some people use sodium bicarbonate. It provides micro grains to increase bonding surface and it's alkaline so it accelerates cyanoacrylate curing. Most of accelerators are just alkaline liquid spray cans. But glass sand seems also a good idea as glue-grain bonding on glass material maybe is stronger than on bicarbonate particles. Just my intuition, no postulate intended!

    • @Bechelede
      @Bechelede 2 года назад

      Right, that will work also i learned. I came to glass sand because there was a time when I collected porcellain and often I got broken pieces caused by the transport. So I looked for something that allows to fill small holes and missing chips and which is partially transparent. So for porcellain it worked quite well. And then I had the problem that my lawn mowers zimcum tank broke off in the middle of the job, so I glued it using super glue and to make it a bit more stable I used the glass sand I knew form the porcellain repair to stiffen the structure. And believe it or not, since I fixed the tank with super glue and glass sand it didnt break again. Considering the vibration that led to the rip of the tank, this is surpising. So I thought it could be helpful to share the experience. Later other users informed me, that bicarbonate does the same. I cannot really tell which is stronger, but for me glass grain works well.

      Yes that was pleasure, because all of the images are done within a few minutes and they develop in a certain way themself just by using some blender functions. I am often surprised myself about the results.

Ist keine Taste gedrückt, hält die Batterie fast endlos lange. (Rechnerisch mehr als 100 Jahre)

      @Bechelede 2 года назад

      If I would use some nice music I would perhaps have some trouble with licensing. So I had to choose something free. The idea I used this, is to show the possibilities of the eye mechanics in conjunction with the software: bechele.de/?page_id=55 www.thingiverse.com/thing:2781756 And I hope thats what it does. The video is intended for people who consider to use the software or the eye mechanics for their own project.
