Here's the second entry in my Top Anime Piano Music series. Here's what the score looks like now: pdfupload.io/docs/a4b17633 Sorry for the mess I've got too much going on to put it into Sibelius. 😅 If notes that I wrote are illegible you can follow the chord labels instead, haha. :) I've been wanting to make a piano cover of this one ever since I watched season 2 ep. 2. Cinnabar’s Theme, Yoshiaki Fujisawa, arr. Caliko, Marc | 辰砂 / シンシャ Houseki No Kuni ost

Here's a piano cover of Cinnabar's Theme, one of my favorite tracks from Land of the Lustrous (aka Houseki No Kuni, aka 宝石の国). Recording this one was trickier than I thought it would be because there aren't many notes, and anything that's slightly off sounds very wrong. There's also the craft of getting the voices to "sing" just right, particularly with the erhu melody in the middle: the piece ...

I love how these pieces have enchanting melodies and are super colorful without being crazy difficult to learn. 4th Place: Prelude Op. 11 No. 13 in Gb Major Here's another beauty. Scriabin's left hand writing is so lovely, I think in part because he suffered various injuries that prevented him from using his right hand when he was young. I’m thinking about playing this with Chopin’s B-minor prelude, which this prelude seems to be paying homage to. How much more difficult do you think this one is (vs. Chopin’s)?

    • @MarcPlaysPiano
      @MarcPlaysPiano 2 месяца назад

      Hmm...that could be a fun pair of pieces! For me right now, I'd say the Chopin might be a 3.5 out of 10 difficulty, and the Scriabin would be a 5. More advanced pianists might rate them closer, and less advanced pianists might rate them farther apart. Two main challenges with the Scriabin are (1) managing the momentum and the different voices at the climax, and (2) the right hand rising arpeggio flourishes at the end, which are a bit awkward but need to sound natural and silky smooth. Try learning those parts first--if you think you can handle those, the rest of the piece should not present too much trouble. Good luck! If you have questions as you learn the Scriabin, you are welcome to follow-up in these comments! :)

    Horowitz gets the vibratto effect the best. I dont think Liszt was referring to a violin-like vibrato which is technically impossible to do on a piano, but to a sound-like writing of the accompaniment as a bass-waves of sound (those repeated chords)

      Thanks Caliko! :D It was fun trying to get that erhu melody to feel right, particularly when it slides...I went with the variable-length-appogiatura approach. And, of course, thank you for making the medley. I hope to record more of it when I get the chance! I've been tinkering with mic stuff (time sink lol)...I got omni capsules for my rode NT5s, which made them sound much more natural than with the cardioid. They're placed near the bend of the fully open lid peeking in at the soundboard. No EQ, and full pan L/R like before. I'm liking it like this...it's far away enough that I don't feel like I need reverb, and it's close enough that things sound clear enough.

    Hello! Well played. I love this prelude very much, too. Heinrich Neuhaus did a fantastic Job with it (Uploaded here from Heinrich Neuhaus - Thema); If you compare His Interpretation with Gawrilows, you'll notice, how much Neuhaus understood in this music. (Sorry for talking about different interpretations than yours.) Your son did a decent Job, too! Best regards from Germany.

    • @MarcPlaysPiano
      @MarcPlaysPiano 3 месяца назад

      Thank you, I'll check out those recordings! I especially love Neuhaus, so I'm excited to hear he recorded this one. Will also be interesting to see what Gavrilov does with it (knowing him, I wonder if it will be very fast...he sometimes tends to be a speed demon, if I remember correctly). After making this recording with my son, I decided it would sound more maestoso if I slowed it down, aiming for procession speed rather than walk-in-park andante. I did some more study, changed mic positioning, and re-recorded it here: ruclips.net/video/AiGM9dtnHrM/видео.htmlsi=AjBdfFr7RSeaRJSa If you have time, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
