Jonathan's Days: Knitting Podcast Unravel February 2022 Special
Dear Jonathan, are a star for persevering like you have today. I think your top thread could be snapping because your needle could be dull. When your top thread snaps frequently, this is often the case. If your spool holder is upright, then the little circular felt pad under the spool allows for an even play out of the thread. If it's missing, you will have jerky starts and a bird's nest developing under your bottom fabric where the feed dogs are working. Also check your tensions on top and bottom This is a little more tricky. Its best to consult your sewing machine manual for this. Once again, very well done❤
I says to the guy.. I love the bit of interest raglan! I can't wait for the pattern. Congrats on 3 years 🎉!
Reading is fundamental.
Hello Johnathan…wondering if and when you may be releasing the pattern for the sweater you designed many episodes ago…really eager to knit it….thank you…wayne
Oh such a big dose of beauty! Loved your shawls , thank you for the video 🤎🤎🤎
Oh how fun this was. Now i dont need Reese’s book club anymore for book recommendations! LOL. This was a great episode. Love what you’re doing with your podcast these days. Thank you, Jonathan.
Loved this type of vlog. I must say I agree with your comments on the repetitive use of actions and words in Sarah Maas’ books! I’ve read all the ACOTAR series and the males all pick invisible fluff off their clothes too often as well as making “vulgar gestures” to each other on most pages 😂 I did get fully sucked into that world though!
If you want a good intense revenge drama, might I suggest Joe Abercrombie's "Best Served Cold"? It's set in a world with magic and an inquisition and it's dark, but the MC has stuck with me for YEARS after reading
I enjoyed this episode, although our tastes in books are very different. I thoroughly enjoy non-fiction and books about the exquisitely fascinating natural world. I recently finished The Light Eaters by Zoe Schlanger and it was wonderful! I also grew up with my nose in a book. My favorite statement from my father, as we were planning to go on a camping trip involving some time in a rowboat: "Don't worry, Leanna, you can take a book on the boat!"
Really enjoyed this- hadn’t heard of T Kingfisher before but definitely adding to my list!
Minnesotan here, yes you pronounced it right! Ee-die-nah. it's a city southwest of Minneapolis, now I have a new shop to visit!
Thank you for this episode. Looking for something to read for escapism. Lots of good recommendation.
Really enjoyed this podcast. Sat with my note book jotting down all the authors I haven’t read yet! Love a good fantasy and I actually did like the Fourth Wing🤭. Absolutely loved the Thursday Murder Club. Another good series, if you haven’t already read it is the Silo trilogy by Hugh Howey. Could go on and on when it comes to books (& Knitting)!
Thank you for this informative episode! We seem to have similar tastes, and I agree with you about Sarah J. Maas’ writing style. I have just added a T. Kingfisher title to my Kindle. Looking forward to more of your book reviews and your upcoming stationery review.
Really enjoyed your review of books. I may even try to read a fantasy, starting with Travis Baldree and cannot wait to get The Thursday Murder Club, my favorite genre. Thanks!
I feel a bit the same way about Sarah J Maas books too! Like ACOTAR series the main character is always vomiting?? But ya, excellent and fun reads 😂
I’m so glad you liked The Familiar! I’m really excited about how Leigh Bardugo seems to be incorporating more Jewish elements into her fiction. The world needs more Sephardic lit 💕
Hi Jonathan! Nice to see you again🥰I’m amazed at all the books you’ve read…I’m not a big reader, but I am reading the ‘Outlander’ books by Diana Gabaldon! Until next time, take care🥰
Wow Jonathan ,I took notes. Great job. like the 5 star system. I love to Listen to a good book and knit.Stephen Kings scary books I can not even go there . Have you read Name of the Wind? Patrick Rothfuss? I read his first 3 a long time ago. But really great video.
I recommend martyn of the knit 365 podcast if you haven't already seen him 👍🏻
Yea! Be right back - going to get a cup full!
I didn't love it quite as much as I LOVED Legends and Lattes, but Can't Spell Treason Without Tea is a similar vibe. We seem to have a lot of reading overlap, have you read Nettle and Bone by T Kingfisher? I'm curious to know which of her books are too much horror for you because I might not want to read those before bed either. I love everything I have read by Leigh Bardugo. I've added a few new things to my TBR now after watching this, so thanks for that!
Thanks for sharing your reading…I always find it so interesting finding out what people read. I loved His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman and the Surgeon of Crowthorne by Simon Winchester which is about words/dictionary
I love this, really hope you will continue these reading updates in the future!
I often have a hard time believing female characters written by men, but then again, sometimes I can't understand the decisions other women make.
Thanks for sharing! The Thursday Murder Club filmed in England with Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and David Tennant, and Celia Imrie. It's in post-production now.
I really enjoyed your book reviews.
Loved this video. I did not study English but still struggle with poorly crafted prose. Sometimes it takes me a bit to realize that is what is putting off a read. My favorite mystery series is by Louise Penny. It is set in Montreal and the eastern townships of Quebec. I have enjoyed all three readers although it was really hard to let go of the first one.
Interesting episode. If you like murder mystery, Kate Atkinson (Jackson Brodie series) and Louise Penney Gamache series are excellent. Maybe do an episode on favourite books of all time ?
I really enjoyed this thank you! I have just read the Deborah harkness one too and loved it ❤ have you read the watchmaker of filligree street by Natasha pulley? I loved this and the others of hers that I have read so far. Really interested to try T Kingfisher books now
Thanks, I enjoyed this different kind of podcast enormously and would love to hear more of your book reviews in future - either as a part of your regular knitting podcasts, or separate like this, when you've a few to talk about. I haven't read any of those (fantasy isn't my preferred genre) but will have a look at Richard Osman now that I've heard your high opinion of his writing.
Nice job! 👍 Picked up my knitting and really enjoyed the video. Looking forward to you next update.
As a person who loves to read and also goes to bed with a book each night, I really enjoyed this round up. I’m definitely going to order the Richard Osman books now. Please do another one of these book reviews.
Jonathon loved the video, have you read any of Lois McMaster Bujold books? Her Vorkosigan and Penric books are wonderful. SF/ fantasy at its very best. Make sure you read them in the correct order as characters added and developed. I have read some of the Vorkosigan books so often I practically know them by heart.
I enjoyed this episode very much 😀 Have you read Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next books? I think you might like them.
I did read Before the Coffee Gets Cold, but felt there was nothing remarkable inside. I thought maybe something was lost in translation. It looks like you've had a T Kingfisher year. My year was filled with Joe Abercrombie, all nine books, and I'm on the last trilogy in the Robin Hobb Realm of the Elderlings; hope to finish by the end of the year. I love audio books and do them while I am driving, but have a physical book, or my Kobo for night time. Mostly I get ebooks when it is the only way to get hold of them. I enjoyed listening to what you read. I'm on 52 books so far this year. Am currently reading 11.22.63 by Stephen King. 💜
Boneyard was my first shawl too ! It got stolen at a concert back in 2018. I'm still mad about it, maybe because it was silk and cashmere yarn.
Your cowls would look really pretty with Noro
Hello don’t know if you’ll see this but..wondering if / When you may be releasing the pattern for the sweater you designed and were wearing a few episodes back….desperately want to knit it,,,any info? Thank you,,, truly enjoy your podcast,, sincerely, wayne
I had never thought of doing a provisional cast-on with a rubber cord. It's a good idea! And the Cream on Top Spincycle matches quite perfectly the painting on your wall lol! It's so nice when we find THE perfect skein for us.
Amazing podcast. I'm a stationary person too so I'd love to see a podcast all about yours 😊
I would love to see your journaling ideas! That cream on top colorway: WOW! One of these days I would love to go to the Spincycle Store in Washington State. I can only imagine how awesome that would be. I think you've inspired me to try the Rad Plaid cow. Your cardigan looks amazing.
What a great episode! I love, love, love the Andrea Mowry Satellite Shawl. How did I miss seeing that one before?! Thanks for a great episode!
Cream on top colorway. All the colors from the artwork over your bead.
For goodness ’ sake, block your sleeve!!
I vote for the reading list!
This was my first time tuning in. Loving all your knits! 😊
Journaling!!! ❤
When you travel to & from the US, did you have metal needles…& did they survive in your possession?
Love your pronunciation of skeins. In Ireland we say “ skeeens”. 😂
Ah haaa. I see you are UK. So now I have to congratulate you on getting the e and i . I think we must just be lazy here 😂😂😂
