Sidney Bechet: "A Green Gal Can't Catch On" (Blues) Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas & Fender Champion 20

2023 marks the centenary of the first extant recordings by Sidney Bechet, which represent some of the most important recordings in the history of jazz (and indeed, in the history of modern music). So I've decided that this year I'll be recording some Bechet tunes, starting with this one, "A Green Gal Can't Catch On," originally recorded by Bechet with Clarence Williams and the great blues singe...

I love squire
I have one a bit older than yours. It's the best bass i've ever put my fingers on
Does this also work with the lp60x?
Yes!
@@aaronheisler i did this but barely anything happend
You have to make sure the screwdriver is seated correctly in the screw. If it is seated correctly, a small turn will make a large difference.
What kind of weather makes it go too fast?
In my experience, here in Winnipeg, the cold dry months cause it to drift fast.
I tried and it doesn’t turn really easy I tried like 60 times
Make sure the screwdriver is seated correctly in the screw. It should turn very easily and make huge differences in speed with a very small turn.
One of the worst guitar reviews I've ever seen. Buys a low end guitar and complains that it's a low end guitar.
Thanks for watching! I agree with you.
I’m more than a little wary when the guy telling us what’s wrong with a guitar can’t play too well. By the time someone becomes a good player, they tend to know more of what they are talking about
We eagerly await your video 😎
They stuck the bridge from a mustang, onto that guitar. Because people hated the original style one. Trick is to go back to the original type ones.. using VERY fine files.. "cut a fine groove" in the center of the original style saddles, then raise the bridge to compensate. They do not have to be deep, I run 9's on mine, and they stay put!! The mustang saddles, do not allow individual height adjustment, and the bridge itself are the wrong curvature !
Muito bom
I play a jaguar and the mustang bridge saved everything for me😅
I have an audio technica turntable that just stopped working! I thought it was the power cord so I bought a new one. Plug it in and it doesn’t turn on. The metal plate slowly turns but that’s about it
Check your belt (rubber band under the platter) -- it may have simply fallen out of its path.
@ yeah I did and it’s fine. I took it apart and see the drive belt spins then stops and spins over and over. Not sure what that could mean
If the belt is OK it may be the motor, or the capstan being jammed up with debris or needing lubrication.
Really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing your experience with the Squier CV JM, I've got a few Squiers, Tele and strat and they can be fun but to me the F does tend to make a difference... Although Just last week I picked up a vintera ii 50s JM and the electronics were shocking -that one went back and the search for a JM continues (I really connected with the J Mascis in a shop recently but it was b-stock and they wouldn't fairly reflect that in the price). Cheers 😎
why not the jazz voice Aaron?
The Champion 20 did not have a designated "jazz voice." It just had a series of amp types (tweed, "blackface," Vox/Marshall, metal) with specific amps listed in the first two categories.
@@aaronheisler Thanks for clearing that up,I have the Champion 100 and was unaware of the lack of jazz voicing, anyway keep up the good work bud!
I have a 2023 jm model just delivered. Maybe they fixed some of the issues you raised. Mine is perfect. Tone and playability are excellent. Also don't understand your high e string slipping off. Push it up for a bend. Could be I'm missing the point.
This is a great review, thanks so much for all the hard work and such a complete review- I wish I could just send you a list of all the things I want to purchase and have you review them for me! Hah!
You're extremely kind!
Right, the make all the second tier guitars for the bigger companies. I would like to try the actual Fender Vintera 60's JM modified.
I also recently bought this Jazzmaster. The potential is better than the cheaper class Fenders. This is the best vitality for beginners who are going to start playing guitar based on the price and other factors. With love from Japan.
what if yours has a felt pad covering the screws and you’re having trouble feeling the screw head after poking through?
Yes, there should be a little rubber gasket in there. Just get as close to the center of the hole as you can, and make sure the head of your screwdriver is exactly perpendicular to the base of the turntable as you push through the gasket. Turn the screwdriver with care until you feel it slot in.
I have the same problem!
I have the Champion 40 and mine needs the treble and bass turned way down too.
Most Fender amps are like this.
Beautiful! Did you record with a live mic to the speaker or somehow use the headphone out?
Thank you for the kind words! I mostly record by just setting my phone in front of the speaker. I do sometimes use the headphone out for overdubs, particularly for recording bass.
@@aaronheisler But when you do that are you going direct to your interface? I’m reading that folks are not having success and wondered what your experience had been.
Yes, I use a basic aux cable to connect the amp to my sound card, and then record in Audacity.
Omg you cheap Canadians ! I just spent $400 on my daughter’s birthday pizza party and somehow you think this is a lot of money for a good guitar. I have this guitar along with about 20 others over the years. All these alleged “problems” are the same problems I have with guitars 5 X the price including Gibson & Fender. I play this guitar every day and love playing my surf music. Get real…
Hello! 😀 Does the Panasonic have a on/off button? 🤔 A very strange device.
Cassette boomboxes of this era almost never had power switches.
Very helpful. Thanks so much. And, great playing!!!
Thank you for the kind words, Brian!
Definitely sounds Jazzy
how do i get a jazz tone on fender 20?
I have other videos that demonstrate this.
@@aaronheisler thanks!
Sounds awesome. I have this amp and love it.
I have one of these. I’d only waited 50+ years for Fender to bring them back. I’d wanted one since I was a teenager in the ‘60s-couldn’t afford one then. I wound up with a Vox Phantom XII, but what I wanted was the Fender. So when they announced these in 2019, I ordered one. I initially wanted a white one-I still think it looks great-but the sunburst ones showed up first, and I couldn’t wait any longer, so that’s what I got. Like you, I also had a hard time finding a case for it-but Crossrock has a Jazzmaster case that fits. I got it through Amazon.
Funnily enough, I just bought that same Crossrock case, and you're right, it fits the XII perfectly. They actually make two different Jazzmaster cases and you have to make sure to get the one with more headroom (I think it might have been made with the Squier baritone JM in mind).
E string slides because the neck is not aligned, you may see it in the dots distance at the 12th fret, strings are not centered
With the white in the fretboard, I've seen that a lot on all sorts of guitars, next timeyou're conditioning the fretboard, clean it and then dye it, Indian Roeswood is the best match I've found, (no surprise), Indian Ink also works very well, convince yourself it's ebony. Water based are best to avoid staining the dot markers.
Thanks for the review. I owned one for a while, but was glad to get rid of it. Build quality to me felt like garbage. Honestly, it was one of the cheap-feeling Fenders I’ve ever played, and I didn’t think it sounded very good either. Just very rinky dink. Just my personal preference, no disrespect meant.
This video was really helpful, thank u ❤ also, love the look & sound of this yamaha bass. I was thinking of picking up bass in the future and will defo look into this model too. For now though, i will stick with playing my yamaha pacifica guitar some more 😊
trusty indeed
BRO THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR
Very nice!👍 👍
Just bought one of these with same issues + possible neck twist. It will be replaced by sweetwater then I’ll buy a good tolex case for it. My 1st gen CV Strat had an unstable neck too but after 2-3 years of storing it in a good case it got fixed. The fret sprouting is ridiculous in these jazzmasters. I think that alleged laurel wood is the root cause of all. I fixed that problem my self but it is annoying
What is the MSRP on that?
They were originally sold for $999 US but were only produced in 2019.
@@aaronheisler Gotcha. I just bought a Squier Paranormal XII for $405 via Sweetwater. Can't wait to bang on some chords.
Sound just right to me for jazz style. Thanks Buddy.
woah nice
A thing I noticed about the octave-string saddles on the bridge is that there are two holes for their screw, and if you can't move the saddle back far enough, you can remove the string, remove the screw, place it in the rear hole, and you'll get a whole new range for intonation.
This is absolutely true. However, for most string sets, intonation issues are more likely on the fundamental strings (low E and G) than the octaves. The only fix is to take the spring out.
Thanks bro
Loctite in the bridge post screws. Problem solved. Sounds like most of the issues are set up and cleaning related.
Dude that sounds great to me to be honest
You're very kind!
Goosebumps.... Thank You for your words. Charles FOREVER 🙏🎷
Thank you for your comment. Charles was a great artist and a great soul.
can you just show your amp?
I appreciate your attention to detail.
it s dumb to compare a jazzmaster and a jaguar
It's true: the bodies, vibrato, bridges, and electronics are all drastically different Oh wait
@@aaronheisler you should have compare it with a fender vintera jazzmaster
But I don't have a Vintera Jazzmaster!
bruh why tf does the Laurel look more like rosewood than pau ferro?😂Fender should really use laurel instead holy moly it looks so much better
From Gs to Bs they are perfectly wrong winded, that why the sharp angle
👏👏
