    Bonnie and Clyde are both buried in the Dallas area. Bonnie's gravesite is in North Dallas, and Clyde rests in Oak Cliff. Also, @3:29 would have been an interesting tomb to see who it was. HALF the interest is to see the dates and who it was. Also, shadows are a huge obstruction to sight. Hope you can fix that. Love your videos. Glad I'm not the only one who loves old cemeteries, filled with history!

    On 14 February 1851 the City of Wheeling purchased from Daniel Steenrod a parcel containing about twenty one acres for the sum of eight thousand two hundred and sixty dollars. This purchase established the new city burying ground. Graves from the existing cemeteries were relocated to the new cemetery. Once known simply as the City Cemetery, and later Peninsular Cemetery, the Peninsula Cemetery as it is now called has seen many changes. Removals from the Hempfield Cemetery were placed in the southwest corner of the cemetery located off Rock Point Road in the Manchester area of the Wheeling and many of the old tombstones from Hempfield are there. In 1964 the I-70 Interstate Road/Tunnel Project cut through the Peninsula Cemetery and over 2500 bodies were exhumed and re-interred to several area cemeteries. Most of the graves were "unknown" as the section that was referred to as the "paupers section" had no records and many were buried there. This section was near the City Pest House off Rock Point Road. It was built to house smallpox patients. The Pest House was torn down in 1933. Some years ago a sign was erected calling this now cut-off section of Peninsula Cemetery the Manchester Cemetery and has caused a lot of confusion over the years. There was indeed a cemetery in the Manchester area but it was called the Old Catholic Cemetery, and its location was down the hill from Peninsula Cemetery.

    NOTE: This channel was intentionally created to host videos WITHOUT narration. The concept is to offer point-of-view videos to let you feel as though you're walking around an old graveyard, to include the sounds of the location. I appreciate the comments requesting narration, but there will never be any narration on this channel.

    Why rocks penny's on stones

    • @thriftybins
      @thriftybins 9 месяцев назад

      Leaving a penny at the grave means simply that you visited. Leaving a nickel indicates that you and the deceased trained at boot camp together. Leaving a dime means you served together in some capacity. Leaving a quarter at the grave, you are telling the family that you were with the soldier when they were killed. Many people leave stones on a loved one's grave or memorial to mark their visit. The symbol of the stone can bring comfort to family and friends, letting them know their loved one has been visited, grieved and prayed for by others, too.

    Also grave-robbing was a huge scheme perhaps these slabs of concrete were positioning stop it from being easily robbed if you ever notice there's black wrought-iron wrapped around graves in this era to also protect its occupants from being stolen. At times graves with this type of construction were a sign to grave robbers to stay away of this grave due to plague, Yellow fever was a major killer of those times many a child's life were lost to the virus as well as adults smallpoxs also could have been the cause of deaths as well Smallpox is estimated to have killed up to 300 million people in the 20th century so it's safe to say this is a probability.

    The OCD side of me wants to tidy up those grave stones by straightening the head stones and restoring the wonky pitched spirit stones (the two long stones covering the grave) to original placement carefully. Though I would not want to clean the actual stonework as the lichen and moss gives it character. But in reality I couldn't and wouldn't start messing with stuff like that (unless safety issues or the family wishes to repair their plots) as sometimes messing with that type of aged weathered stone can cause more damage to already fragile stonework. I live in Scotland (born, bred and raised) and we have many gorgeous very old grave yards that I love to wonder around and admire.
