    Did you have to use a high-quality audio cable? I can never get the transfer from the apple game server to work on my iie. Admittedly, I'm using a thin audio cable.

    • @non_maskable_interrupt
      @non_maskable_interrupt 23 дня назад

      No, it was a very ordinary cable. It all depends on the line out you are using. I don't clearly recall but I had some issues at first. Ended up probing the audio input circuitry within the Apple to make sure the audio was being translated into a square wave. Just make sure the volume is properly set. Another possible issue is that modern motherboards sometimes have multiple audio channels and at least once I was playing the audio stream in the wrong output! Lol

    Something is not right with the settings of your computer. Wolf 3D should be a lot faster in a 386.

    • @non_maskable_interrupt
      @non_maskable_interrupt Месяц назад

      Maybe, but we have to consider that it does not have any cache, no FPU and the VGA card is 8-bit which makes it very slow. I am gonna run some benchmarks to check!

    • @non_maskable_interrupt
      @non_maskable_interrupt Месяц назад

      I realized something: the FPU on the 386 is always external, the main difference of the 386SX is that its data bus is 32-bit internally and 16-bit externally (multiplexed in a similar fashion to the 8088) and a 24-bit address bus (instead of 32-bit). So the data bus width is probably one of the main reasons for the poor performance of Wolfenstein 3D on this machine. I am gonna try a 16-bit ISA VGA card and see if it makes any difference (in theory it should).

    • @non_maskable_interrupt
      @non_maskable_interrupt 3 месяца назад

      Maybe, these SoCs are intended for use with cameras and there is no point on doing cameras without some sort of CV//ML/AI these days, but depending on which Raspberry Pi you are talking about, a RB Pi (most of them) is gonna have a lot more horse power (aka CPU speed) to perform CV-related processing compared to these SoCs, not to mention that RAM size can also be a constraint.

    what is pwm controller ic of psu ? Does have >300V on the big capacitor ? I can help you repair this psu.

    • @non_maskable_interrupt
      @non_maskable_interrupt 6 месяцев назад

      Hi! The PWM controller is a KA3882, no the main input capacitor has ~172V DC (in Canada we use 120Vac). I have ordered a few KA3882 and I am waiting for them to arrive. As I mentioned in the video I have replaced a few capacitors and resistors that were out of spec, but I could not replace any of the power transistors/MOSFETs since I don't have spares. Any ideas?

    • @hamdzuii
      @hamdzuii 6 месяцев назад

      @@non_maskable_interrupt first make sure ic not defect by measure: Vcc(pin7) > 12V, Vref(pin8)=5V. If any that voltage missing or unstable that mean ic defect. Also, check electrolytic caps on Vcc pin.

    • @hamdzuii
      @hamdzuii 6 месяцев назад

      You can refer to the schematics with ic KA3842, their functional pins are identical.

    • @non_maskable_interrupt
      @non_maskable_interrupt 6 месяцев назад

      The problem is that Vcc to the 3882 is controlled by one of the two optocouplers on the board. That optocoupler is controlled by the yellow wire that comes from the mobo. There should be a 5V standby there that I understand is independent of the 3882. But that 5Vsb is not there. There is an individual transformer with two primaries and one secondary. One of primaries has a power transistor (can't recall the pn now) forming what I think is a self-oscillating circuit. I have removed and tested that transistor and adjacent components.Did not replace the transistor as I don't have a replacement or equivalent. When the control optocoupler is active there is 17V on pin 7. I also checked the standby which uses a 7805 after the rectifier/filter connected to the auxiliary transformer and everything seems fine. I tried to find schematics with 3842 that look similar to what I see, will try again. Thanks!
