Whats with these American trucks in Australia? So many at the Melbourne 4x4 show.

Some of these American trucks in Australia seem so impractical. Whats the story with them? I visited the 4x4 show and purchased a few things. I saw a great new camper trailer from @goldfieldscampers6024 which looks pretty good. As well as a really impressive setup for disabled people in 4x4.

After a 2 week trip, covering 3,500 kilometers. There are some things that are just great. Solar panels, Darche firepit and of course the awesome @SignatureCamperTrailers deluxe 2. It's a great setup. But there were some failures. One in particular was very disappointing.
I never thought I would ever have one, now I cant camp without it.

The mayour reason I dont like this set up is this if you need to use your 4wd, you have to disasemble the whole lot, and this would drive me insane.I much prefer a fast setting up tent like an oztent or a compact camper triler.
For sure. Everything has + and -
Good tips mate, not much of a camper for all of these reasons.
They are easy enough to get over though
I relate to this and enough other uploads to get my sub. We absolutely love winter camping especially mid week when literally noone camps. Was in Namadji Nat parks Orroral campground recently and yeah just nobody else, just us to enjoy such a huge space.
I was there a few months ago. Nice bit of the world there
@@Haveacrack76 ACT is literally underrated in Winter for camping and sight seeing. We were there 23-27th August and our feet were always wandering to new places 😀. Currently in Mudgegonga near Myrtleford Vic on a vineyard for 2 months caretaking
We've found during winter we barely ever see anyone when camping in state forests and Nat parks from Qld to Vic so leaving stuff out has always been ok. I guess researching the area you intend on camping at, be aware of who is around/proximity to towns and always lock up if you are away from your setup
I find the same thing mate. 100%
get youself a nail gun 100 shot magazine.
solo camped in a dozen countries, hate paid camp sites, all those city slickers cramped together horses kill more in Au than snakes, sharks crocs and spiders together 10 a year, shotgun is pretty useful
I havent heard that about horses, but I think its probably accurate.
nice , but get a proper chair , a fold flat chair , is better for my back , it my be for yours a well , cheers
I find this is one of the most comfortable chairs Ive ever had mate
Shane, just crossed your channel. Great work. Good content.. You don't waffle, keep it up mate.
Thanks mate, I appreciate it.
Great advice. I have been traveling around Australia and solo camping all my life (I'm in my mid 50's now). I have never had any issues anywhere I have camped. My main hates I have now are the party campers with loud music and leaving all their rubbish behind when they are finished.
Whole heartedly agree mate
No where is dangerous unless you put yourself in a situation you are not capable of surviving in by lying to yourself thinking that will keep you safe but if ya killed you won't have too much time to worry about it 😅
100%
My sleep setup is: yoga mat with foil lining, 3cm air mattress, "removalists" blanket around the mattress, sleeping bag on top, and when it's really cold a woollen blanket over the top. Cosy af.
Simple as mate. Nice
Carry a knife for sure, 3 rocks- fair size and a stick, a nice hardwood stick, known as a nulla nulla in Aboriginal way. All 3 can become very handy. A bow for distance 😊
Bloody hell mate! Thats a lot
Bunnings= Pestxpert wasp spray. Up to 6m distance. Stings and Blinds the target same as bear spray. ( self defence only for solo campers ). Thank me later. Cheers 👍
This and fire extinguisher have come up a couple of times. Such good ideas.
I feel the safest I can be in the bush. I’m amongst friends like the trees and every living thing that comes to visit me….accept bogans.
HAHA boguns. That was the term I was looking for when filming this.
lol I remember my time in the old APC's. The priority was the cokking gear, coffee and the 10 man rat packs, not to mention the selection of sauces!
And salami!
And dont forget to lock it away before the grunts get in
@@troy8532 HAHA I was a grunt!
haha, so was until I saw the light and moved to RAEME, drove a fitters track around for a few years, loved it, beats walking for a living.
love it, 'its an accessories sport'
Tis true
In the ninetees, my ex and i were camping just off a highway a ways. It was late, and we heard a vehicle stop some distance away. We didn't think anything of it. A while later, suddenly, something leapt onto our roo bar and started bouncing up and down, shaking the whole campervan. We were terrified. Then it stopped, but we didn't hear anything more. Not even.footsteps. Needless to say, we didn't sleep all night.
Fark that
Fire/burns are also a real risk. Ask me how i know...😅
True mate
If you're licenced to carry a firearm, then do so.
I suspect it depends on the licence. I know with my class D, I cant take them off farm.
Well should teach people how to to light a bomb fire with fuels because they get it wrong
Cant really get it too wrong
I like to give the impression that my camp 🏕 has more than one person by putting up a second tent and some extra chairs 🪑
And a second pair of (men's) boots.
Nice one mate
@@Haveacrack76 I had one Wolf creek type encounter and hope to never have another I was camping in a national park turned out a large drug crop was nearby. A leather hat wearing guy walks into camp with a high power rifle and starts firing at tent ⛺️ to scare us off. When I reported it to the local police they ran me out of town 😫
Well done I hope first time camper’s watch this and learn from you 10/10
Thanks mate
I knew a bloke many years ago that used to travel around with a caravan and he kept an SKK rifle loaded always next to him, he said there were many weirdos out there, (of which he was one) we thought he was the backpacker murderer until Ivan was caught.
I had an SKK when I was younger. Sadly, no more.
@@Haveacrack76 yes me too, he was the reason I bought one.
We constantly hear that American trucks are safer for towing and that smaller trucks are not safe towing the big vans. This is true, but this is also the problem. As a society we build unnecessary McMansions in the suburbs and then build equally excessive McMansions on wheels to go on holiday, that require bigger and bigger tow vehicles to "safely" tow. Why do caravan manufactures push the bigger vans, because that is where the greater profits are. Yes people want more living space but maybe a bit of downsizing would be a good thing across the board.
This is probably the best comment on this video. Thanks mate
Why are so many people paying 100k + for a 79 series tin can. Now that's weird.
Not really weird when you think of reliability and parts availability all over the country.
Ive got a ram 1500 and i love it,dont have any trouble parking it,does the job pulling 4.5t off road caravan not problem, there's horses for courses, dont worry the outback tracks will get wider to accommodate these great trucks in time. The cost, well 40+k to convert them, without that every one would have one. 13:47
Cheers mate

Wow! This product is amazing! It looks compact and easy to carry. 👍 Thanks for the recommendation, and I look forward to more great shares like this from you!
It really is mate
Everttime i see those american trucks it reminds me of the simpsons song canyonero i start singing it
HAHA a few people have said that. Pretty funny
So it’s basically a large battery with all the sockets and displays already attached 👍
Basically a battery, mppt controller, dc charger, inverter and sockets in one
Great Video mate, I usually put up a trail cam to watch over my gear when I am away from it (Obviously hidden) never had anything stolen so haven't had to look through it, TIP put it somewhere where you can catch people coming and going
Thats a good tip too thanks mate

I should have covered this but didnt. I always do it, its second nature. But forgot in this video
Can I suggest being aware of where you camp. 28 years ago, we were travelling along Newell Highway and got really tired. Those days, there were no wiki camps, so we pulled up at a farmers' gate. Stupid us it was Saturday night and at 2 am the boys were coming home from the pub so they thought it was a good idea to terrorise us till my late husband decided to wind down the window a little bit and inform them they were scaring children. They stopped, but we were done with sleep. That is the only instant I have had trouble. I solo camp now for 10 years, and still no issues. I do pack my gear away and lock doors before bed and lock up doors. I also leave my jockey wheel up and back my rear car tyres on ramps to level up, so if I need to take off in a hurry, the only thing to leave behind is the orange ramps.
Sounds smart mate
They do my head in , great to tow a van boat etc , but most are just wank factor and take up two parks and inconvenince everybody else in the car park
Seems to be the consensus
Watch out for the button man!
HAHAHA
Good for drawing attention to yourself and not much else.
Good for towing too I imagine
@@Haveacrack76 Great for towing huge loads - overkill for what most people tow.
I drive a hilux workmate dual cab. I don’t go off road. It’s all I could afford.
There is nothing wrong with that at all mate
Very cool review! I think they're gonna be a much better option than fixed lighting so I've ordered some! Voc off-road also have a 1st order deal that gives you $50 off if your order is over $100 so I've ordered a couple of decent looking bags as well and my order total after the $50 was $98 . . . . So a pretty sweet deal considering I was willing to pay $90 just for the lights!!
If its the San hima bags you got, you will be happy with them for sure.
Never never ever watch a Wolf Creek movie or google Mick Taylor.
HAHAHA
I went from a Ranger to a F150 and won’t ever go back. The comfort/ towing capability and power is unmatched. I have a Long wheel base and have no issues parallel parking it in standard spots in Sydney. Unfortunately it’s the w*nkers who don’t know how to drive them that are the problem.
I think there is a place for them for sure.
My camping involves traveling light, a 50 pound recurve bow and my old man's kabar, I like to go off by myself and pretend I'm the only bastard in the bush. Love it, never had much trouble with people that way.
Ive never had issues either. 50 lbs recurve would keep you honest though. Nice
There are way more Mick Taylor’s in the city’s….
True mate.
Great video! I solo camp on a bike. I'll generally find an out of the way out of mind/sight campsite. Thoughts always wander for the first night. Never had any major dramas.
I used to solo camp on my triumph tiger. Loved it. But as you say, I always had a quick way out. For some reason, I felt more vulnerable on the bike camps.
Social media has buggered the high country all these tosses Come up from Melbourne carnt drive on the road they drive on the side of it to see how much damage they can do & it’s not hard to take ya rubbish home or bury ya shit paper 🤷♂️
Youre on the money there mate. I 100% agree. When I see the guys trying to stop the closures of the state forests, all I can think about are those tosses ripping up the bush.
