StreetStrider QR crank arm creak fixed
Просмотров 3242 года назад
If your StreetStrider develops a creaking sound during the power phase of the foot platform rotation while striding, it can be caused by a very small movement between the aluminum crank arm the steel block to which the crank arm is secured. This is a tiny, micron distance, movement that is the aluminum and steel surfaces rubbing, often caused by a lack of grease between those two surfaces. If a...

StreetStrider 3i/7i rear disc rotor bearing noise
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.6 лет назад
Any clicking noise coming from the rear wheel disc rotor likely results from a bit of excess pressure from the double lock nuts on the rotor bearing. By backing off the double lock nuts by a tiny amount, the pressure is reduced and the bearing noise should stop.

    First mine came with the grease container open and spilled inside the box. There is red grease and gray grease. You bothered to put notes on screen but did not bother to day which grease would be applied. I can imagine someone would say to check the instruction manual but it is not efficient to go off of two different set of instructions. I only got this for my wife Christmas present and this is a nightmare to put together.

    • @davekraus2309

      The red grease is for bearings, screws, quick release crank arm, and bottom bracket spindle. The gray substance has grit in it, called grit paste, to help lock the poles in position when setting for height and then tightening Joint #1 screws.

    Dave, any advise on how to reattach the whole pole assembly, mine came off at the crossbar where 2 3mm set-screws are. Thanks

    • @davekraus2309
      @davekraus2309 Год назад

      There are always 4 set screws, M6 with 3mm drive socket, on each end of the crossbar. Later versions also have a single pan head M6 screw on each side that acts a lock to prevent the Joint #1 assembly from sliding out of the crossbar. If the Joint #1 slid out of your crossbar you should be able to back the M6 screws out a bit so that the Joint #1 can be re-inserted. If the Joint #1 came out leaving the roller bearings inside the crossbar that means the flathead screw that holds the Joint #1 assembly together has come off the spindle. In that case pull out the bearings, the spacers, the washer and the flathead screw, reassemble the Joint #1 and then reinsert. Apply some grease to the bearings if the assembly is apart an add some thread locker to the flathead screw threads when reassembling.

    I think it’s cool that you help people with their street striders. I was out riding my street strider 3i & the frame cracked right underneath the fold joint on the welded seal. The company sent me a new frame with the bottom bracket bearings & square tapers attached to the frame. I'm very nervous about taking apart my old street strider & putting together the new one. Taking all of the brake & gear shift wires out of the old frame & putting them into the new frame correctly looks like it's going to be very tough to accomplish. Adjusting the wheels (the back wheel came loose once on the old bike - I don't understand why there is a locking nut on the right side of the rear wheel but no locking nut on the left side ), keeping the tire pressure at the correct PSI, steering, brakes & everything else was so difficult when I first put my old street strider together. I have never been able to get the gear shifter to shift to gear 3 no matter what I adjust or do to the gear shift assembly. I hope it is easier when I'm putting the gear shift assembly on the new frame. It was mostly assembled before, what if all of the parts do not fit correctly & tightly on the new bike after I put it together? I'm worried about my safety & hope that I don't have any problems while taking apart the old bike & assembling the new one. I can't afford to go to a bike mechanic & am not mechanically inclined. Do you have any advice on where to put the parts after taking them off the old frame & before putting them on the new frame? My family & I are very concerned that I may do something wrong when trying to put this street strider together. I’m worried about what parts of the bike to add lubricants to on the bike. I hope that I’m not bothering you & that you can give some advice to help me take apart my old street strider & put together the new one. Any help that you could give me with my street strider would be appreciated because I’ve been worrying about getting this finished so that I can get back outside & focus on my workouts again & not on my safety. I hope this bike will last me for several years & that I don't have any more problems. Thanks for your time.

      @@AmazingWorlds314 Thank you! I had to purchase a "Problem Solvers Cable Doubler" from Jenson and some regular cables. I was able to fix the issue by replacing the whole assembly. Eventually I sold that bicycle. I'm pretty sure that I won't be purchasing it again. Overall it didn't fit my needs. These exercise bicycles are not for everyone and they require space and unusual maintenance. PS: Need to mention the frame is metal, not aluminum. It was pretty heavy. Plus I wouldn't buy a new one. Currently I prefer walking or running on foot.

      @@yolo-cars true, they might not be for everyone. I picked one up for $130 in poor shape. I restored it to the factory condition, but it was very hard to do so. I had problems with getting the front brakes to get a proper grip on the front disk brakes. I actually finished restoring mine just yesterday and I love it greatly. It is all metal, but they do have more expensive aluminum version. I found it not too heavy and can lift the whole thing and put it inside my car to take it to a trail. It's about the same weight as a regular beach cruiser bicycle would be. The problem is with parts accessibility. I needed some bearings and I could not get it, even from the manufacturer. I had to improvise, but it works well.

      @@AmazingWorlds314 I definitely feel you. I also restored mine and then sold it and even lost some $$ though I purchased it used. The problem with such limited production and limited demand bicycles is its huge price. I will never buy a new one from them for the price they want. The good thing is because of limited demand the used ones cost much less than new. I guess you got a great deal purchasing it for $130. I paid much more. And like you mentioned it's difficult to get parts from the manufacturer. I contacted them and they told me to lookup parts somewhere else. I was thinking like "What? That's an "awesome" product support.." I could lift it and fit it inside my minivan, but I didn't like its weight and overall bulkiness even when it was folded. It occupied a lot of space in my garage. PS: I was also interested in that treadmill bicycle too, I even looked for a used ones around. But something tells me I'd end in selling it and loosing money again though I think I like the idea of a treadmill bicycle because you don't have to wiggle, but just simply walk. Anyway I think I'd better find a used cheap CF or super lightweight road bike for cycling exercises when I realize I really need such exercises...

    One thing I noticed. You failed to lubricate the front beam tapered roller bearings by properly packing them with a quality NLGI-2 bearing grease. This grease is the same as a person would use on automotive wheel bearings. It may seem to be overkill but in all probability it will be the only time it ever gets serviced, hence the use of a long life heavy duty grease.

      The reason is that you have to is a smaller Allen wrench on one side. That bolt can accept two, the larger one will remove the whole arm, and if you insert a smaller one, you will be able to adjust how close the brake is to the disk. It's shown on the video.

    • @davekraus2309

      I think your creaking sound is coming from a very slight motion between the nylon 66 foot platform and the metal ski to which it is attached. We have found that a dry lubricant, DuPont Teflon spray, applied under the platform where the nylon reinforcement ribs contact the metal ski tube can reduce and even sometimes eliminate the creaking sound.

      kenneth alexander is your pulley assembly in correctly? When I put mine together, I spent a frustrating hour trying to get the lock to actually lock and keep the pulley in place. I finally figured out there was a plastic ring - some kind of protector, maybe? - keeping it from sitting flush. Once I removed that piece, everything fit perfectly and it locked in. When you put the drops onto the axle, are the “non-turn” washers in the groove of the drops? Did you pull the wheel far enough back so the chain is tight? Those are the only things I can think of that would cause your chain to come loose. I hope I helped!

    • @davidkraus7731
      @davidkraus7731 5 лет назад

      Yes the upper poles are more or less planar when viewed from the side. However, the upper pole sections are designed with multiple bends to provide user selectable positioning depending on where the user prefers to have their feet on the platforms and how long are their arms. What we use as a common starting position is to have the middle section of the upper pole angled slightly rearward so that the upper section with the grips is just slightly angled inward toward the midline of the strider. We try to show that in the Owner's Manual photos. If the user wants to try a different position it is easy to loosen each of the 4 screws on the Joint#1 clamp about 1-2 turns, rotate the poles another position and tighten the screws.

      We paid $300 for white glove service but my husband had to loosen the front 'king' bolts so it would turn because they were cranked so tight and the steering was impossible. I also had to take the shift mechanism off the rear axle (3i) and re-adjust the chain because it was so tight you could get it to lift up or down with any pressure applied and he had to loosen the internal rear axle bolts on the axle because the tire would turn hard and not on it's own!!! Then he had to re-assemble to the correct specifications. So much for white glove!! When I first tried to ride, I couldn't steer it and it kept leaning over and I almost fell over with the strider , and you had to stand on it to pry it back to straight again the bolts were so tight!!!!! The rear tire now spins freely and I have 1/2" slack in my chain, and the KING BOLTS are semi loose and it rides like a dream now!!! The $300 was a waste of money if King Kong does your assembly!!!! My advice to Street Strider:: STOP OVER TIGHTENING BOLTS!!!!!

      The only thing left to do at the end of the 7i wheel installation is to lightly snug the axle acorn nuts by hand. Instructions for tightening the chain, connecting the shifter cable, and adjusting the brakes for the 7i rear wheel are in subsequent sections.

      David Kraus alrighty! Thank you! And as soon as I finished putting everything together, minus the shifter, my younger brother was riding it and somehow the chain slipped off the front sprocket and bent it as well as destroying the plastic shield attached to it, so now I get to fix that before we can use it, haha

    7i rear hub cable took a LOT of tuning, with the barrel fully tightened, the static alignment line barely appeared in the edge of the window. On the 2nd adjustment the the Shimano Nexus hub shift cable fixing bolt snapped. The crimp end popped off the cable as I was putting it into the hub and unraveled the next time I touched it. The cable fixing bolt is 10 mm, including a 10 mm wrench would be good. I had to order a new internal cable, fixing bolt and crimp ends, thank my lucky stars for Amazon Prime. All told, the entire assembly of the 7i was difficult and took a lot of time, everything needed adjusting. I have put together some complicated equipment over the years, the 7i was tricky and requires a lot of working space. $299 for assembly is too steep, considering someone who has assembled many of these and has the proper working space should be able to do it in an hour or less.

    Dave, this was very helpful and showed me exactly what to do to connect the cable to the hub. Thanks!
