It can go rancid... safer types of oil would be hemp oil, mineral oil, linseed oil, walnut oil

Where would you recommend buying the wood / tools for a beginner? Do you have a list of what a beginner needs to get started? I'm thinking of buying a few things as a surprise for my wife, she loves your tiktoks (and so do I) 😊
Hey, oh, that's amazing! Well, really depends on what you guys would love to do. I would suggest with starting simple though and carve little basswood things first (I have some tutorials on basswood here). You don't need many tools. I do everything mainly with one knife, which is a detail knife. Check what you have available in your area! Beavercraft detail knife or flexcut detail knife are good. Then you would need a leather strop and some green compound for honing the blade. Some basswood blocks (I buy them on ebay usually, but you can just google "basswood blocks" + area and see what comes up). And a saw to cut blocks - I uses tenon saw, but you can get whatever seems appropriate. Cut-resistant gloves could be useful too. I do have a tiktok video on that, I think it's called "What you need to start carving". Good luck!

love how you use woodworking tools some carvers have you whittling large chucks of wood when a saw cut would work. You don't make it complicated I like that have a great day of making shavings :)

Stropping compund for stropping on leather, perhaps?
Hey, yes, it is called a stropping compound. Apply a bit of it on leather and hone your knife

Hey! It's more like a spiritual concept, as in everyone has their wild instinctive side - it's a strong visceral force. It's important to learn how to tap into it and to coexist with it. At the same time we need to stay humans and something as very human as craft can help with that. On the other hand I like fantasy world and imagining myself a werewolf too :) to the point that it almost feels real

This is basswood. I buy everything online, often ebay. Just search for whittling detail knife (you will also need a leather strop and some strop compound for honing it)

I think we must be the opposite in term of carvers. You carvings are so polished and perfect while mine have few cuts and super sharp rough edges. I love it. Such a great and cute carving again.
I actually love your carvings, they are quick and effective, which is a definition of whittling, I think! But it's cool to have variety in wood carving world too :) Thank you 💚
For the magnet I probably would carve in an inlay so there is no gap between the fox and the magnetic surface. But making those evenly is quite a bother.^^
Yeah, I do that sometimes too, but I wanted to make it as easier as possible 😅
My sanding always looks way less gentle and takes way longer.^^
