Why I fish WINDY days and why YOU SHOULD TOO!
Просмотров 826Месяц назад
I tried a new spot and it paid of pretty well. One of my favorite patterns is fishing into a South wind in shallow water on sunny days during colder weather. This day was a text book example of why I like to fish windy days and why you should try it too.

I had no idea HOW to land this fish ALONE!
Просмотров 3092 месяца назад
After years of wanting to catch an alligator gar, I finally had my chance! The excitement quickly turned to a challenge as I struggled to land it by myself, especially with my prosthetic leg sinking in the mud. The physical difficulties made it even more frustrating, but after battling through, I managed to land the fish. The joy and relief I felt were unreal. Sometimes experiencing the lows ar...
Fall Catfishing on Lake Texoma

Catfishing often comes with a lot of waiting, and this trip was no exception. While I only caught a couple of fish, the downtime was well worth it with a beautiful sunset to enjoy. As the water temps come down our catches are starting to get bigger. Sometimes it's not just about the catch, but the peaceful moments in between.
Exploring Tiny Island Waters for Fall Catfish

I decided to try a new spot and fish a tiny island that offers access to both deep and shallow water, perfect for targeting fall catfish. The night started off strong, but as the hours passed, the bite slowed down. Despite the challenges, I enjoyed a beautiful sunset and soaked in the peaceful surroundings. Join me on my first fall catfishing adventure from this unique location as I explore new...

Join me on a two-day adventure as I head out to the river with Austin from www.youtube.com/@ChasingtheMoby and his friend Terry, in search of big catfish. The trip didn’t start off easy, with a few unexpected hurdles along the way-motors that wouldn’t start, gear issues, and some struggles with bait but ended with one of the most amazing catches I have ever been a part of.

Happy New Year BJ. Love the Christmas Trifecta and looking forward to your content for 2025!
Happy New Year! Lots to come!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year cool to see someone fishing on Oklahoma it’s where I’m always fishing I’ve been wanting to get more into catfishing just curious what’s a couple things you recommend for bait
Thanks for watching. What part of Oklahoma do you fish? As far as bait goes, I really only use cut bait, and I am not picky at all. I have some preferences but it's mainly on how durable a bait is and how easy or hard it is for a fish to pull it off the hook. My first choice is always something with skin (striper, carp, buffalo, crappie etc) but shad are a very close second. I know a lot of people that use all sorts of baits (things like hot dogs and chicken) but I think the things that cat fish are eating naturally will give you the most consistent results.
Wow, what a cool story! I cant believe it lived. I love putting my trophy fish back in the waters. Not that I have any like that.
Merry Christmas man! I an avid fisherman but new to catfishing. I'm watching, learning and studying with you. I'm steelhead fishing during the day and learning to catfish at night 🤣. I'll be sure to let you know how its going when I try for catfish! Any tips for river fishing through a city?
Hope you had a Merry Christmas as well. I'm glad you found my channel. I am still learning too, but that's what it's all about. River fishing is something I need to learn more about myself. I will always recommend watching Austin Brown Chasing the Moby for river fishing. What little I know I have learned from him.
Great video!!!just what I was looking for before making a purchase!!! And some great cat fishing!!!
Awesome, hope the video helped. I hope you pick one up and it helps your catfishing as much as it has helped mine. There's definitely a bit of a learning curve, feel free to hit me up if you get one and have questions.
Great episode thanks. I enjoyed your fishing trip.
Thanks for watching. That was a fun one to make.
Merry Christmas Brotha. Your openness and honest talks are so refreshing in today's negative and toxic world. I am trying to make a plan to come back out in late Feb-end of April. However, it's Twister season and being in an RV with Boat ? Makes me nervous. This fall things got a bit to close and 'Randy' for me. But, I may rent a place, still investigating my options. I have unfinished business at Texoma 😆🤣🤣 love the area and the fishing is very special. Stay safe ☝️
Hope you had a Merry Christmas man. Hopefully you get to come back in the Spring. I know the weather can be sketchy that time of year but the cat fishing, especially for big fish, is incredible in the Spring. I hope you get to come back and get get on some monsters.
merry Christmas this is different from your other spots not wide open water you can find those catfish man
Hope you had a Merry Christmas. That was a cool little spot. I have fished there before but never on camera. This coming year I plan to fish a lot more new places so you should see more of a variety.
Dino is good luck!
He was that day for sure.
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!!!
Nice video sir, thanks sir .
Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you enjoy my videos!
Do you know where to catch any big gizzard shad this time of year at lake texoma from the bank
Odds are slim. Everything is kinda deep including the bait. Water temp is low 50's
Like Chris said I don't know of any places you can catch big gizzards from the bank right now. Most of my bait hunting is in the backs of creeks this time of year.
@@jasonholbrook4359 I've been going to the river when the generators are on. I been catching net fulls of monster gizzard. Even got a 16incher.
Another fun episode.. Love watching the Boat navigate the high Texoma surf. You got some good ones on this day. Stay safe my friend
It's like an ocean out there sometimes. It took me a little trial and error to learn how to drive the boat in those kinda waves, but I mostly have it down now lol.
Good stuff BJ. Great day with great guys.
Thanks Todd, always a good day when Marty and Mama are around!
Do you like fishing windy days as much as we do?
I am friends with BJ and I also own two of the Jabo Cresea bait boats. My fishing life has improved greatly from the bank. Being 66 years old you don't want to be casting all day. With the bait boat you can also dump some chum if that is your thing. LOVE THEM!
They will definitely spoil you. Thanks for sharing.
Top Catfish 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Forgot to ask you on podcast lasnight. What power bank you use on your gopro. I just bought the hero 13 looking to video when I run planer boards on texoma.
I use Anker Power banks. I have several of the Anker 525 models. I prefer Anker, but any brand will work just look for ones that PD (power delivery) or fast charging. I'd look for one thats at least 20,000mAh
Thanks for sharing your great story.
Thanks for watching, I was little nervous sharing that part of the story but I think it needed to be told.
Is this in New Mexic, Somewhere? People just don't care.
It's really sad, some people just don't care about taking care of the outdoors at all.
I really enjoyed this..Love boats, watching you utilize them to selectively drop your baits ? Very cool. They use those down here on the lower Colorado River for Flatheads. Looks warmer than the morning I left..Was cold 🥶..Stay safe my friend
It's a great tool for sure, plus the kid in me just has fun playing with it too.
Another great video BJ. Thanks for showing us the ropes on getting those baits out there!
Thanks for watching Todd. Always appreciate the support.
Thanks to Cresea for sending me this boat to test out, and thank you for checking out my video!
Texoma?
Thanks for watching, yes it's part of Texoma.
Awesome video. it is good to see that you have not let your challenges hold you back. A lot of us have our own form of challenges to deal with but I, like you, have determined to deal with them because I love to fish too much. I use forearm crutches to get around now and have a very hard time getting back up from sitting. So, you learn to adapt how you have to do things, my boating days are long gone, I fish pretty flat areas that are easy to get to and use spinning reels instead of baitcasting. I am nearly blind as well, am in one eye, so along with limited feeling in my fingers, tying on hooks and swivels are a very slow process but it could be worse. Life is what we choose to make it in spite of things. Keep it up, enjoyed it very much.
Thank you so much for this comment. I appreciate you watching and I am really glad you found my channel. I love your outlook on things. Life is indeed what we make it in spite of our circumstances. I am realistic enough to know there will be a day where I am not able to do some of the things I am able to do now physically. When that time comes I won't stop without putting up a fight, and sounds like you aren't either. I hope you have many more days of fishing and tight lines my friend!
Looks like a great fishing trip!
It was a pretty good trip. Thanks for watching.
what kind of line you using??
I am using 50lb Power Pro braid for my main line and then Berkley Big Game mono for my leaders
You had a great day ! Keep em coming 🤙 I think im gonna have to change my plan. Each outing i pick up a couple 20-35lb on whole White Bass. They sparse and scattered. Not complaining, i reckon its time to search the shallows. Stay safe my friend
I've been doing pretty decently in shallow water on sunny days. If you're on Facebook feel free to message me on my page (4 Digit Fishing on there as well) and we could talk more about spots if you wanted.
@4digitfishing Sounds perfect ! Sadly I am heading out to the other side of the Rockies tomorrow. Going to lake Mead then up to Utah to be with family for Christmas. However, will be back early spring . I will find you on FB my friend. Stay safe
I hope you have a safe trip and good holidays with your family. When you come back in the Spring hit me up and we will talk Spring time spots.
Do you prefer fishing windy or calmer days?
It’s so nice video sir, I appreciate it .
Thank you. I really appreciate you always watching and commenting!
Good video i always love cloudy and windy daus
Thanks Terry. I love days like that. Some of my biggest fish have come on those kinda days.
Where area of texoma?
I fish all over the lake but mainly the north end
Thats a tough grind hard wind in your face the whole time. Wind makes everything more difficult however, you got stamina my friend. I made bait today, tomorrow may be good. Sat wind is gonna crank, i wont be launching that day. Stay safe
As much as it makes everything harder windy days on the bank are some of my favorite days to fish. Saturday is going to rough I think. What areas have you been fishing?
@4digitfishing I've been fishing the deep flats north of the RR bridge. Bite steady on fish to 15lbs. One close to 35 on a very large carp head and another much bigger SLaunch that was whisker hooked pulled hook. Put boat in shop today for service. Felt it was a good time with the ugly front coming through next 5 days or so. Here's my phat question? Running your lines out 150-300 yards on last video, how deep are you getting too ? My guess would be 3-8 ft ?
@@alanweisner2421 I fish a lot of shallow flats that are 4 to 8 feet of water, but I also fish places that I am able to get baits out into 20 to 40 feet of water or more with the rc boat. As we get farther into the winter I'll start fishing some of those deeper spots for sure.
Thanks for taking us along on a historic night!!
My pleasure. It was a crazy night indeed. 20 years later and a lot of still just seems kinda surreal.
Great story, I do enjoy a good fishing yarn. Funny how this video showed up in my feed. I grew up in Oklahoma (1955-1984) in a fishing family, it was what we did and we fished all the big lakes and rivers since I was knee high to a grasshopper, including Texoma and the Red River. I got a few yarns of my own, although not as big as yours. I moved to Colorado and live there still, but I'm here in Tulsa visiting my 94-year old mother and your video pops up. It's like youtube knows everything about us, and brought us together here. You inspired me to hit one of my favorite holes on the Neosho river in a couple days, been fishing there for over 50 years. It's definitely a different world than the high mountain trout streams I fish back in Colorado. But I can relate to a lot of the things you said that have nothing to do with fishing, just with life in general. And that's part of fishing too. Anyway congrats on the big blue, I wish you well and if I ever see you out there I'll come chat with you. Thanks and take care out there.
I am really glad you found my channel. I have gotten to fish a few times in some mountain streams in Colorado and it is a different world, but it's all the same kind of escape from life. I am sure you have some good tales and memories from your time growing up here. I hope you get to get back out on the river while you're here and relive some of them!
absolutely one of the best videos I've watched, deserves more views
Thank you so much, I appreciate that. Thanks for watching.
Here is to writing new chapters in our Catfishing Adventures! Hundred pound club is right around the corner!
I think the chapters we are writing right now are definitely some of our best my friend.
Great story telling
Thanks Terry! I appreciate that.
There ya go, being all human and stuff again 😂 I enjoy all your content and it certainly doesn't all have to pertain to fishing. We all have stories, heartbreaks and regret yet, having an audience that actually cares ? Especially in today's world is the exception. However, this is where it starts my friend, exactly as you have been doing. I traveled halfway across the country to get my PB Blue. Don't have em on the other side of the Rockies. But we do have big Flatheads. Your chase is triple digit, mine is far more modest, I'd be very happy with a 50lb. No guides, just grinding on my own knowledge. Got here in Oct, staying til Dec.. Lake been rising, bite is definitely better. Keep on and stay safe 🙏
I really appreciate comments like this. I was a little nervous putting this one out today. This youtube thing has been a grind, which I knew it would be, but still. And comments like this, or what will keep me going. Same thing with your goal of a fifty plus. If you do the grind it'll happen. I'm rooting for you.
@4digitfishing Thank you !
Always enjoy your videos!!
Thank you. I appreciate you watching.
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 FANTASTIC JOB MY FRIEND 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you so much. Appreciate you watching
Ive done really well keeping it simple. Light rod, #16 treble hook, choose your spot, chum corn, just put corn on hook with a small spit shot or none at all. Cast and dont tighten line. Be stealthy, just watch your line and they will find you. Less is more with Carp, they are wary and sensitive to sound and unnatural things like weight. However, once they find your Chum ? You will likely catch as many as you need. Good luck
Everytime you pull up a Bluegill im thinking, bucket, sunset, Flatheads 😂
Those little creeks were full of good flathead bait. I have never targeted flatheads specifically until recently. I took a couple of little trips of the river looking for some with no luck. I will definitely be doing more of that this year though.
Thats what its all about, true adventure. My son and I used to do these things and we called it guerrilla warfare fishing. Fishing those waters that are inaccessible to less adventurous folks. No pain no gain and you guys did both ! Stay safe
Austin and his group fish harder than most people I feel like. It was definitely an adventure stepping into their world. I need to do more of that type of fishing.
Good episode. I hope you get to feeling better.
Thanks Terry. Feeling MUCH better now.
Nice Cat BJ!
Thanks Marty. I'm ready to get on some big ones with you and Mama
Nice video im tring to get motavated to go set in the rain
Hope you got to get out and catch a few.
You aren't the only one struggling catching. I been averaging 1-2 fish per outing dragging miles of deep flats. Today is Nov 1, decent weather on water , some rain, 3 Cats today. Figured would be real good right before this next big front. Nope... Stay safe
It's tough when it's like that. Hopefully this rain and cooler weather gets them fired up a little more. Thanks for watching.
We had a trip planned for months that my buddy could not change the dates on so we fished the heat wave this week in the 25mph winds. It was brutal to say the least. Looking to come back mid November when things normalize. Great video as always BJ.
Hopefully this weather change will get them going. Hope your next trip down here is better
