Hi all, today I had a blast at Thunderhill Raceway Park. Had some dramas with the brake rotors. But sorted it out right before the runs. Did three sessions and started picking up paces. Going 8-9/10s is the goal of this journey. Still have a lot of tracks to visit and maybe 4000 miles of road trip. Gotta keep the car in one piece. After a Tylenol I felt a lot better with fever! In the video I look like I got gapped by an 8th gen Si. Yes I did. Shane got a really nice build Si. Full bolt on making 220HP/160TQ at 8800 redline.     Hi, I know this is an old video, but did the Hondata tune help reduce the rev hang in your Si's 1.5T? I'm interested in the 250/250 basemap tune, but was wondering if that pesky rev hang can be removed.

      It can be disabled. There's a checkbox assuming you are buying the non CARB version IIRC.

    How did you monitor coolant temp with a built in gauge? My SI doesn't show it

      @@jeepdad1954 I don’t watch it on the go. OBD reader can read it. Mine had a stock engine. Temp never went beyond 220F.

    I know this is old but how are you getting 203 as your highest? I just saw another video completely stock getting 225 and the hondata baseline was 220. And you have a tune and are getting lower?

      Different Dynos hondata used a hub Dyno. So 203 seems Right on the dyno he's using

      @@edgarperez9128 FWD on Dynojet has a factor around 0.85. With some calibration difference, 203 translates to around 240-250 crank.

    Love your videos! I know it's been a while since you posted this video, but I was curious as to what brake rotors you are running. I just tracked my '23 Si with carbotech xp10s and castrol srf fluid, but during my last session the brake system light came on. I'm assuming it was from the heat. Pedal feel was still good, but I'm looking for a way to lower braking temps. Thanks!

      Glad you enjoyed it! In this video I did some Frankenstein experiments with the front brakes. Turned out not helping a lot. Later on during this roadtrip, for safety I installed a BBK set and ran xp20 enduro pads for guaranteed consumption. Xp10 with stock rotors are sufficient for track day use. The brake warning light will just be on as long as you track unfortunately. Factory threshold is set too low. With xp10 my only complaint was consumption. The front brakes were too hot and I went through pads and rotors. Not trying to sell products lol. Looking back, if I track a car over 10 days a year again, I’d do a big brake kit from the get go. In the long run it actually saves money. Back to lowering brake temps, there are two ways. One is guiding air. Audi RS3 brake ducts will fit if you have strong DIY skills. Make sure to cut off the rotor dust shield leaving only lower ball joint protection. The other way is better brake system. Aluminum caliper would dissipate more heat while thicker pads and bigger rotors would take more heat. Imagine it as a steak. Thicker steak takes more time to get cooked. And I promise I’ll get the rest of the trip edited as soon as I get time. Orz

    I’m about to ready to start tracking my Si for the first time. What oil do you recommend? I’m pushing 240 whp TQ. I’ve been hearing people say you need to run 5w-30 for the track

      Ester is your friend. 5w30 indeed. I recommend Redline, Motul and Amsoil. Redline is the one I used personally. It’s the most budget friendly one. My buddies with more coins run the other two. These are the three brands with ester. It’ll tolerate sustained high temp use. Downside being a shorter oil change cycle. They do not like a lot of street use. Rule of thumb is 5k street or 5 track days. Whatever you do, don’t go to the track with stock oil. People blew up on stock power with stock oil.

      Front is attached to the crash bar. I drilled a hole and put a rivnut on the bar and loop it through the grill. Back is on the crash bar as well near the exhaust pipe. I used a piece of felcro to keep it away from the exhaust. Felcro is for quick release when in use. Working pretty good for 10k miles. The tow straps I used are universal from Summit Racing.

      They are bolt on with the dust shield removed or the rotor hat will drag. But they didn’t work well for me. I ended up cracking a lot of rotors.

      Go with xp10 front and rear. The stock rear has enough bite but pad wear is pretty quick.

      L15CA缸头和涡轮不一样。用的是美版10代1.5T L15B雅阁缸头和涡轮。连杆坊间传有所强化。尾牙4.3很好用。个人觉得四档以上齿比太稀疏。开箱装lsd的话如果可以定制四档齿轮建议换一下。不知道高速赛道会跑多少。不过原厂L15力气不够大小型赛道不太需要定制五档。两用的话保留五六档原比走街也更舒适。

      了解。我和一个国内的朋友对比过L15CA和L15C9刷过之后的马力机曲线。峰值扭矩几乎一样。但CA的峰值扭矩输出是一个平台2500-5500转。C9是山峰状峰值在3000。

      我只刷了一阶。特调的话L15CA的峰值扭矩可以更大,都是小架构涡轮但是CA的稍微大一点。但CA输出400的扭矩车的驾驶难度会高很多。车也更挑油。因为挑油的问题我没有继续刷。 我了解C9不多。朋友告诉我330的峰值山峰状曲线基本是极限了。

    Damn that could've gotten really nasty very fast. For a FWD car, I'm surprised you were able to control it like that. Was is the Helical LSD that aided in that successful Countersteer?

      Front diff definitely gave the front more bite. For a FWD car, keeping the throttle down during oversteer is key, assuming the electronics is completely shut off.

    How did the rotors crack?! wow defect or bad manufacturer ?

      The rotors were from a major brand. And the pad compound paired with the rotors were too harsh on them. I used 4 sets of them. Usually they micro crack after 3-4 day of use. For the rotor with a huge crack, it’s likely a defect rotor.

      The engine is bone stock. Tune is Hondata stage 2 base calibration. I also dyno’ed it in a separate video. On a Dynojet the car made 200HP/220TQ.

      @@skydrol13 calibration was untouched. I had full throttle shift enabled and VSA disabled. Tune was loaded 3 months after I got the car and I never played with it. The car ran this tune for around 30k miles.

    I have a question about insurance not sure if you can answer or not. I’m looking to track and autocross my Si which is also my daily driver. I’m having a hell of a time trying to find any company that can provide coverage and won’t drop me at the slight hint of tracking my car. Who do you go through to make sure your car stays covered on track?

      To insure track days or competitions, Hagerty and OpenTrack are the two options I know. Insurance companies for the road won’t cover any track time and best not mentioning it at all. They do by event and by year.

      @@UnrelatedNonsense I rarely drive 11/10s so single event insurance for me. It is separate from road insurance. They only cover track incidents. The annual one I believe they don’t deal with cars below 40k. But just what I’ve heard.

      @Dilon Kao Sounds correct. VIR is treacherous in the wet. Puddling and the sealant patches are very slick. Clipping one of the curbs in T5-6 coming out onto the bridge straight is the demise of many RWD cars. Hope you enjoyed it, the elevation, layout, and facility is fantastic.
