Superbikers 1984 wide world of sports
AMA should bring this type of racing back 👍👍👍👍
Not many 41year olds running 2 digit numbers, especially back in 85.
Over the Top copied a lot of this script
This Edm SX was in 1984 not 1985. it was my first yr riding pro and i was there. I barely qualified for the main passing the 2nd place rider in the last corner double before the finish line in the Last chance qualifier! i think i got lapped twice in the main by Pederson and Cantilopi. Many Top Canadian riders were there but quite a few top American privateers showed up. It was a pretty cool experience to be racing in a Football stadium. There was also a Sx in 84 in Calgary but have never been able to find it on youtube. Hannah came to the 1984 Calgary SX and won convincingly
I taped this movie off a Buffalo station back in ‘86, commercials and all. I still watch that tape. Great way to time-warp back to when I was a kid I was heavily into watching Mx races. Didn’t care and still don’t care for crap like football, baseball, etc. if a motor, set of wheels and handlebars aren’t involved it ain’t a sport to me.
Thanks for posting this up. It's been a BENCH RACING discussion here in Texas for decades, with no traces of it until now!
Mon Dieu que c’est modèles ont pris des Arbres 🌲 😢 élas le cerveau derrière le guidon est pas en option !!!
That Kawi is just so much faster on the top end. I'd love to get on one them 500s
Bike lookes like 1985 not 84
Damn...them boys was rollin
Stock i think not
I remember this. I was like OOH, A Magoo Race!!.. Wait... What's this crap. Street tires???
“If you don’t crash once in a while, you’re not going fast enough!” ~ Danny “Magoo” Chandler.
Lawson, Rainey, Carr, Ward, and more.....These dudes were not only shredding, but their style back in 84 is still pretty badass today!
the kids nowadays would never know what hit them if they went back in time
Good idea ! With a million dollar purse !
I know ricky ! Great guy ! Faster than grease on lightning! All these guys are ! But Ricky always took time when he found out i was there because he was friends with my sister !😊
I wouldn’t call the race very entertaining but thanks for posting
Jim Lampley.
Shows how road racers are the next level. They grew up riding mx doing dirt track. It’s not like they just jumped on a bike and started road racing.
Absolutely rode the wheel's of them
Mad Mike holding his own.
Steady Eddie is the best American GP rider of all time, change my mind.
Kx 500 too fast
They should bring this race back! Very exciting and high speed racing. I remember watching this when it aired. I watched all the ABC wide world of sports motorcycle races from the 70's through the 80's.
I was 24 in 84… Everything was better then…. You could even kiss the trophy girl if you wanted without getting charged with rape…… 😂
I remember watching a carlsbad usgp from the late 1970's. Gerrit Wolsink was the winner that year and up on the victory podium he was making out with Miss Hang Ten!
Awesome
Great race you could see the draft. Wasn't mentioned during broadcast. Little was known about it back then. And soon after it would play a key role on most tracks for all racing.
I worked for former.3x U.S. national speedway champion Gene Woods. He did this , I can't rember the year, at Carlsbad. Eveybody was FAST.
Did anyone else expect Super Dave Osborne to make an appearance here?
I miss the wide world of sports.... watched a lot of billiards on that show.
I am sitting here in 2023 watching this race and it is every bit as exciting as it would be live. At 62 years old l can only dream of riding one of my XT500's down a desert road 1/4 as good as these guys.
Be careful riding an xt an 81 big bore xl 540 might find ya😅
You got 7yrs on me but I am right there w/ ya. This ^ beats the ___ outta Moto-GP
Date on this is wrong. This is the 1985 race. Here it is titled correctly by someone 4 years ago. ruclips.net/video/JZxHM2Ac0iY/видео.html
These mx dudes out here racing high-speed on asphalt with nothing but a cotton jersey on for top protection. Wild.
Absolutely amainzg era and riders!
SupeMoto, No one will play this game unless money involved!
Carr,Parker, and Springsteen sideways into a corner at 130 mph on a xr750 with zero brakes ...thats what I'm talking about
Chris Carr is a bad man
My first bike as an adult was a road registered 1981 TT350. I remember the local shop owner saying to me if you can master riding a motorcross bike on the road with knobby tyres, you'll be able to ride anything. 42 yrs later I'm still upright and still enjoying riding. I recently spied a partly dismantled TT350 in a neighbours garage and when I mentioned my early history with one he said 'if you can push it home you can have it!' I don't think I have ever moved so fast to get my gym shoes on and push a bike up a hill and into my garage. I have spent two years collecting NOS parts for it, the rebuild will start soon. I just have to remind myself it's a 20 yr old mind in a 60 yr old body when I get it on the road. 😅👍
You should start a channel and do a build log. So many auto build channels but too few old vintage moto channels.
You'll be okay. Remember what Mike Hailwood said: "The throttle works both ways"! Good luck to you with your project.
@@jakk222rem I have several to restore, but this is the only vintage mx bike I have (must be over 30 yrs old to qualify). It's been said 'that I have a good head for radio' so I want to teach myself to do video edits and subtitles first. At the moment I am building a new workshop/ultimate man cave, by the time it's finished I hope my video skills are up to date. I have a brace of early (proper) Suzuki Katana's to do as well. Here's to hoping that I live long enough to get it all done. 😉👍
It would be Awesome to see a video of the build process!
Where were the 4 stroke noises come from? 😂
I never thought Ricky lived up to the whole "bad boy" marketing they did for him. His interview here was a good example of why "arrogant excuse maker" would've been more fitting.
Bob hannah was my fav ! And the fastest in my opinion !
Yeah. RJ wasn't a bad boy. Nobody was really in those days. Now, there's several.
MAGOO!!!👍✊
The man!
Yeah baby; my fellow MXers gettin it done. I always knew we was the toughest, craziest and fastest riders out there.
A interesting made for TV type race sponsored by ABCTV. The French developed a spin-off called SuperMoto but it was a bit more asphalt biased. They also use 17” sized f&r street tires compared to the dirt track spec 19” tires front and rear. I prefer this original type of race with more dirt bias. I’d love to see a version of Superbikers held at Glen Helen.
the early days of supermoto.
While Sam Posey was standing there lying about how 'stock' these bikes were, I keep hearing Uncle Bobby (Unser) saying in the background, "Sam, you really think those things are stock? You, son, are an idiot!!!!" Sam and Bobby were a great motorsports announcing duo. Everybody wondered if Sam actually knew which was the shiny side and rubber side of a car, and Bobby (RIP) had NO filter.
Sam Posey is a Douche Bag.
Sam was ok. He knew what he was talking about. But that's my opinion and we all have em.
SUPERMOTO...
Back in the day when everyone rode 2 strokes like everything should be….
