Thank you, much appreciated. I typically finish all my whittles (that stay indoors) with Howard Feed-N-Wax. It is not a permanent finish and will need periodic re-coating, but it really seems to "feed" the wood and create a nice glow without looking like plastic. I apply it to the bark as well.👍✌

Stay with it and it will come. Whittling is a skill that is learned. First step is making sure you have a properly sharpened and honed knife. Second step is just making practice cuts, don't try to do a complete project and then apply those practice cuts to a simple project. Practice on found green wood, its free and plentiful. Last point, but most important, buy and use a carving glove. Your fingers are worth more than the $15 a good glove costs.

Try a tree or mushroom or just practice turning a square stock into a cylinder - you will get there! 👍✌

That was my thing years ago; carving vice, gouges/chisels. The older get the more I appreciate the simplicity of the knife. Thank you!👍✌

@@WhittlingWoods I do like to use knives only and do a lot of Doug Linker's carving vids. The long sloping faces of the wolf can be a bit easy to slip off edges or like in places under the jaw. Your piece of butternut is almost crunchy sounding, soft like a Butterfinger bar. Might finish the piece in bass by putting it on my bench vice. Probably about twice the size of the initial example- seems a safer solution to have it stable. thanks 😆

@@lyndonreddick1888 Yes, a larger version would look great. I did a bear that was about 2.5x larger than this wolf - used a carving vise as well. 👍✌

@@WhittlingWoods Hey, right, I'm up for that- have too many large blocks of wood that need to be carved. Got The Woodcarver's Workbook recently with some bear and wolf patterns. 👍
