The Cajun Blade
США
Добавлен 18 июл 2022
My name is Eric and my channel “The Cajun Blade”. I am a traditional straight razor shaver. This channel is not a product review channel. My content is geared around the art of straight razor honing, shaving, and maintenance. I have a love for coticules, but I also have passion and respect for all of the majestic natural honing stones of the world. I occasionally cover knife honing content and some good old Cajun cooking.
I am an unapologetic DIY type a guy with a traditional hands on approach. There ain’t much I can’t do, and there is a good chance you may see it done here 😜.
If you like my content, please comment and subscribe.

Scottish Sharpening Stones - The Water of Ayr.
Просмотров 2419 часов назад
Water of Ayr is of a hand full of natural sharpening stones mined on the Dalmore Estate near the River Ayr, located in East Ayrshire, Scotland. Other sharpening stones mined there are the Tam O Shanter, and the Dalmore Grey. The WOA is considered the finest of the stones produced in Scotland. This is a stone that I enjoy very much as a Razor stone, it provides a buttery soft edge. The Full Scot...

(In British boxing announcers voice) oh my…. The claret has begun to flow……. lol
🥴👀 that it did, we had to go to the corner and see the cut man
Good and interesting video. The very interesting thing about this hobby is each element, each step is a whole hobby unto itself. How far do you want to jump in? Some parts are more interesting than others to people. Have fun as we each follow our interests.
Nice shave Eric. I agree with you on prepping your face and using a good soap. If you’re going to take the time to put a nice edge on a blade, take the time to help the blade perform at its best. I have to try out your Bourbon Cowboy soap.
Amen brother. If I am going I with this hard on an edge, I am going to put the work in to enjoy it. I was worried how close BC would be to your MP, they are very different, and I was happy about that. Maple Bourbon is one of my all time favorites, I did not want to do it an injustice.
As usual great informative video ! I completely agree about face prep, as you've said, it's key to getting a good comfortable shave, almost as important a factor as the razor. (and of course the technique). Maple and bourbon sounds right up my alley.
Maple Bourbon is my Jam. I love Joe’s soaps. Thanks for watching
Great shave. Thanks
Thanks man
I taught I left a comment, but upon return, I did not! Cheers Eric💈💈💈
Happens to me all the time. Getting old ain’t for pussies
👍 One of these days I gotta get me one of those Böker Carbon Elite shavers.
They are nice and like TI, the razors are larger than advertised. This is a full 7/8+. They take a really good edge, but don’t come that way.
@ I honed one up for a friend once and loved the test shave.
Looked like another good sharp keen shave. You got that laser edge off that WOA! I nicked my ear the other day and it bled like no other. Funny thing was it was the tiniest cut. It surprised me that for such a tiny cut it would look so bad lol.
I have been nicking myself too much lately, and I keep re opening them. Going too fast and not paying attention. Thanks for watching Johnny, I hope all is well.
Love my Boker carbon! Great SR! Another cool shave video brother! Love the comparison! You should be home tomorrow. Travel safely my friend!! Cheers!😉🥃
Counting it down! 👀💥
@ 😅😂
Awesome Eric. WOA seems to play well with coticules. Prep, skin condition and lather is key. I had a bad shave today. The edge was fine, but all the other factor was lacking. Take care.
Thanks John, we all get in them half ass shaves once in a while. That’s why I try to shave at night. I only have girls left at the house, morning are a crazy temperamental rush 🤣🥴
Great video Eric 👍!
Thanks
I will second the comments on Joe’s soaps. I have more great shaves with his compared to other soaps that I have used a few dozen times.
You said it yourself that you’re going to fast, slow down a tad and not rush. You don’t rush the honing and have plenty of patience. Anyway keep up the informative content my friend! 👍
Hi Eric. So the boker was the more confortable. Nice shave. Have a good one
Yes it was, I suspect the issue was on the low end, the coticuels did a better job on the bevel than the Dalmore yellow I used for the other razor. I was expecting that. The puzzling part was the HHT and the scope. The full scotch bone looked better. But I leaned a long time ago that you can’t trust the scope or the scratch patter on a natural stone. Or HHT for that matter, the shave tells the truth. It was a fun experiment.
Hello Master Eric I'm here and watching!
🤣😜. You flatter me but the only thing I am a master of is my baiting skills 👀
Excellent shave Eric like is usual! I love that maple bourbon by Joe as well, it’s crazy good! Cheers my friend can’t wait to see the next one
Thanks Sean. The next one will be fresh off the press.
Awesome video. I am going to have to watch it again to get all the points you talked about. Now I want to try a slate I have on top of one of the coticule edges to see what it will do. Thanks again for the videos and insight. Take cae.
That’s the things I enjoy the most. The testing and learning process. Getting to know the stone and razor, learning from both. Blending my process with what that session requires. When I attack it like that, it never gets old. I day without learning is a day lost. It’s awesome to see others enjoying the same.
That’s a huge stone! I’m glad you found a home for your old one. One of these days I’ll try these Scottish ones out especially if you say it’s a fantastic finisher. Dropping in those beautiful LPB stones in the end of the video lol.
Thanks Johnny, it’s one I enjoy a lot. You know I can’t leave my Coti without some love 😜
Very nice stone Cajun! I believe you nailed it on that one! Very nice , I'm envious!!!! Now I got to buy one. Great bro. Love it..
Great video Eric! I’ve learned more about the different stones out there from you than from any research I’ve done. That WOA is a nice looking stone.
It’s a fun hobby, this stones are my favorite part of it. They are all not great, but it’s fun testing and finding it out for yourself. Glad you enjoy it, I sure do.
How did I miss this for 5 days? Good shave, Eric.
I am a little guy, easy to miss.
Love my WOA and the edge it gives you! Fantastic video brother!
And it’s an underrated set up stone. The way you use your to set up your Ark is a great way to transition. Thanks for reminding of that, I sure enjoyed that shave. It will probably be the way I transition to an ark in the future. Have a great day.
@ thanks brother! I’ve noticed that I can set up with the WOA, or the Thuringian to the ark and they both transition nicely. Honestly, just enjoying playing around with different progressions and stones. Great way to pass the time
@ you forget the Pendleton, that’s an important part of the process
@ 😂
right off the bat did you get new microphones cuz your audio sounds amazing in this video, back to it .... Beautiful Boker boss, can't wait to hear it ring !
Yes, I did use a microphone on this one. Thank Josh.
Nice large stone!
It’s a biggen.
Excellent video Eric like always! That WOA is HUGE! I see you’re a happy man, I’m going to need to give these stones another try. Cheers brother
Thanks Sean, I really enjoy them,
Another fine stone! ~Cheers Eric🪒
Thanks Gary
Nice video Eric. I had fingers crossed you’d find the finish on misty slurry. Glad you enjoy the WOA stone mate.
That works too, soap if a slurry works good, anything to add a little viscosity and lube. I have really enjoy these stones.
I like all the slate types , I'm no expert on WOA ...someday I'll try mine with soapy water 💧. Lovely big stone, Eric !
The only wrong way to hone them is not putting steel on them 🤣😜. It’s one of the stones I really enjoy
Brilliant! Thank you for the explanation of the stone and how it compares to other stones. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
Thanks brother, I hope all is well. Happy honing.
Hi Eric. Nice stone. I figure soapy water is easier to wash off than oil. Have a good one
Yes, soapy water is convenient, thanks. Hope your week goes well!
Another good one Eric. I was wondering about the inc dots some of these WOA stones have. There are some cool looking stones for sale on Ebay at the moment. These have allot of inc dots. At some point i might need to get a bigger one then i have;)
Like you, there a quite a few I enjoy. The WOA is up there with my Coti, I really enjoy these honing and the mild shave buttery shave it provides.
Hi Eric great Video, thanks 🙏
My pleasure!
Nice new WOA 👍
Been waiting a long time in that one
@ all they gotta do is go dig them up. Can’t be that hard, right? 🤷🏻♂️
@@billm.2677 I agree. My country is more or less just a big rock. There should at least be some good slates to dig up somewhere;) Why don't they just dig them up???
Awesome stone you have there Eric.
Thanks bud, it’s a tank. A fun stone to play with.
Wow thanks for subbing to me Cajun Blade, I appreciate it. I subbed to you as well. I hope you like my little uploads of me showing movies I have and get in my collection. I know it's not the super best in quality and length and format but it's all I can do.
Hi Eric, Happy New Year! I have Electric Sheep and absolutely love it. Really nice shave. I so need to start practicing again with my straights. Best regards, Glenn
Thanks Glenn, hope you have a blessed 2025. Straights are fun and addictive. I can’t put them down
Happy New Year's Eric🦞🦞🦞
Thanks bud, is It new years in Canada too? Or do yall celebrate on a different day? 🤣😜
Stirling for the win!!!! Stirling Mutton tallow based soaps are really hard to beat. Scent strengths are strong too. Great shave and happy new years!
Thanks, I hope you and your have a blessed new year.
That edge looked and sounded smooth. Happy new year and best wishes to you and your family!
Thanks man, Happy New Year to you and yours as well.
Happy New Year Eric!
Thanks Mike, and happy new years to you and your family.
Exceptional shave Eric sounded very smooth!!
Thank you Gary; that means a lot. I was very happy with the results.
Happy New Year and shave on…….🫡
Happy new year Warren
Enjoyable video. I also think that how the soap feels, before and after, maters. It can make or break the shave. Electric Sheep is a good scent, though my kids don't like it. It's fragrance is a fond childhood memory for me; the smell of Murphy's wood cleaner soap reminds me of cleaning the house with my mom. I hop you have a good one and that the weather isn't to bad when you return to work. Ta
Thanks Robert, I am with you on the soap performance. That’s why I process my own tallow and make my own soap. A good base is more important than any scent. Take care buddy.
Happy New year and best wishes four 2025 great shave
Thanks, may 2025 bring you and yours good health and happiness. Thanks for watching
Hello Eric happy New Year, great shave! Have smooth shaves 2025.
Thanks Robert, appreciate it. Happy new years buddy
Excellent video Eric! That edge looked really good, wish I was the one shaving with that razor. So let me get this straight... Stirling will discontinue the base with sheep tallow? Wishing you the best for this New Year! I'm focusing and happiness and peace of mind this year. Cheers my friend!
That is what I heard in another channel, can’t remember who’s. But it’s good stuff, if you want it I would get some. You can always message them and ask. Happy new year and like you, I hope 2025 is a good one, full of growth, blessings and time well spent with loved ones.
Happy New Year Eric 🎉 bless you and your family .....
Thank you Martin, I hope you have a blessed and bountiful 2025!
Happy New Year Eric! Great shave! I got myself some of that Sterling sheep tallow soup. I need to try it out soon! It’s always fun trying new soups, especially from a new edge off a new stone!
Thanks Rob, happy New Years, I hope you eat and drink too much today. If I was not working, that would be my Goal!
@ 😂 i’ll eat like a fat kid on Christmas today just for you!! 😆
great shave boss, and happy New Year ! look forward to a video with that new stone ! thank you for another year of awesome content for the shave community boss !
My last video I did hone that razor on my the PDSQ. It was the ASMR video. Thank you for always watching and commenting Josh. It the entrancing with the other enthusiasts and guys with a passion for sharpening, stones, shaving and DIY that makes this fun. And if you’re not having fun, why the hell do it. Happy Nee year buddy.
