Straight Razor Honing - Coticule Dilucot with a synthetic bevel set. Sweet, simple and effective. The most critical part of any honing is the bevel set. I don’t want to send the wrong message. A one stone hone is fun and effective, but you must have be able to establish a bevel. If you can’t effectively set the bevel on your coticule, or your unwilling us use enough slurry or pressure. I got to try some of Eric's soap. I haven't found anything else that lathers quite like it. My woman likes it too.
You know you should wear a gold chain Cajun. It will help u know where to stop shaving. 😄 Good blade! Zulu is fine..
Maybe a gold Figero? I have been told I have that Mob boss vibe. 🤣
Yeah ! That's the good stuff 👏
Thanks Martin
Great shave my friend! I meant to tell you, you want to use a bit more product than you are used to with that cream. But the scent is amazing!
It’s been so long since I used a cream,I got caught off my game. Man that scent has to be my new favorite. Hard too believe those cats back in the 1700 had that much games, it’s a real corset dropper 😜
@BigEShaves I told you. That scent is a testosterone replacement. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I decided the sample I sent you was the last one I was giving out. I am being stingy with this one lol.
Nice shave video, Eric. I knew you’d love the Zulu.
Thanks Leon, I really enjoyed it and the credit is all yours. Thanks for opening my eyes to the Zulu!
NIce shave Eric🦐🦞
Thanks Gary
Glad you came out of the storm okay. I love my Filly for its thinness of grind.
That was my first experience with one and I liked it. I bet it would be great with a Jnat edge.
Watch out you about took that goat tee off. Hehehehe. Great shave Eric!
Tell me about it. Shaving around that phone is going to cost me that one day 🤣
@@BigEShaves I just use the screen as my mirror. It’s a little easier with a safety razor. We will see on Sundays shave hehehehe
The joy with a Filly is it'll perform well off any stone , the steel is so forgiving 😊. Rigarazor is a fiercely sharp steel ive had my Rigarazor 2 years and never touched its edge . If ever i do , only a few laps on crox . Wish i could find ,or try a zulu grey 😩. Thank goodness your ok ,hurricanes seem scary as hell to me . Take care ,excellent shave !
I will send you the link to the guy I got mine from. Good edge like an Ark but much better feedback and you can tell what the edge is doing. Not just lapping on glass.
I just got a zulu and am looking forward to testing out the edge I put on a razor. It is funny you said that is was skin friendly like an ark. I thought that the hone's sensation was very similar to an ark. More gritty of course, but the feed back had very close sensation. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome, did you get it from Jaco?
@@BigEShaves I did. He was very helpful.
Hi Eric. Nice shave. You don't see nuch info on forums about this zulu stone.
Not They went unobtainable for a while. Now till can get them out of South Africa pretty easily
Looking gooood! I should start looking for a fili after watching this, great correction and shave my friend!
Thanks Sean, I would not mind finding one myself, but they demand a price 😜
Watching your other video and this one makes me think that you can sharpen a razor on everything, even a brick. Your experience and feel with sharpening is at another level..... This is deep stuff.....you adapt your technique to whatever stone and get the results you like... Edit: Hope everything will be ok after the hurricane.....
We made it thru the storm in good shape. Thanks for your kind words. Figuring a stone out is my true passion and what I enjoy most.
Hi Eric very nice shave!❤❤❤ Have a great day and weekend 👍🏼
Thanks Robert
Nice editing Eric and the voice over worked really well.
Much appreciated! The voice over thing lets me condense the video and capture the essence of the hone and reduce repetition and video length. It maybe something I use more over on honing videos.
Wow! What a transformation! Great work!
Thanks Barry
Thanks for getting her in shape for me Eric! Great to watch and learn as always.
Man it’s a nice razor. I hope you enjoy it, your scale work is amazing. They’re beautiful and it feels great in hand. It was a fun project.
Awesome video Eric! Frown removal is something I’ve struggled with. Great tips, I’ll be trying these out.
I go the long route, I just hate to remove more steel than needed. A man can get more aggressive with the diamond plate. I just prefer to limit that in my approach. I have over done a few razors in the learning processes, that taught me to take a more measured approach.
Good work, Eric! It is always a pleasure to see a new video in the que.
Much appreciated!
Hi Eric. Nice demo. This 3k arata must be a nice stone. Have a good one
I like it, it’s the 15mm version of the Chosera Pro stones.
Hi Eric I love videos of that kind! I think that's the harder part about shaving with a straight razor. Ok I even have a lot to improve in shaving too. And I will soon see how it's the honing to learn and I'm looking really forward! Have a great day Eric😊
That’s awesome Robert. Once you get started honing, let me know if you need any help. Make sure and post some honing videos 🤣😜
@@BigEShaves Of course Eric! 👍🏼
Is it wrong if i didnt use tape when i set my bevel? I mean regarding function, not look.... Also what is "my zulu grey"?😁
You don’t ever have to use tape. It’s a personal preference. In this case I did not want to do any excess spine wear while I was doing the correcting.
A Zulu Grey is a South African natural finishing stone.
@@BigEShaves I thought its a stone, but i wanted to be sure. So is the Zulu finer than coticule, from what i see?
I would say yes, but finer does not always mean better, just like harder does not mean better. They are natural stones, so things can change stone to stone. It’s up to the honer to maximize the end result. With that said, I would take a coticule over any other natural stone. It the right hands, it’s hard for beat.
@BigEShaves which I can't find in UK ebay.
Perfect job 👏 I bread knife it🔪 first , then exactly as you did with taped spine 👍.
Thanks Martin, it worked out pretty ok.
Excellent job Eric!
Thanks Matt
First!
Awesome video Eric! Learned a lot on how to correct these
I would not expect anything other than first from Mr Diplomat.
Is that the Boker 7/8 abalone…?
No sir, that’s a SK Collings 7/8. They are custom razors out of Prosperpine Australia. You can contact him on Facebook. I will add the link in the video description. Very nice and affordable custom razors.
@@BigEShaves yeah, I just saw that at the end of the video. Thanks for confirming.!! 👍🏼
No problem bud.
Nice shave Eric! Thomas makes some great soaps. Very nice AKA brush.
Thanks, Joe.
😍😍😍😍😍
Doobie Honing 👍
Sweet looking honing 🎉
It’s a fun stone
classy shave and chat Eric! I appreciate the 📢 shoutout and spreading the straight shaving passion and knowledge. best wishes
Thanks Jacques.
Nice shave Eric, thanks for the shout out!🪒🪒🪒
Happy too. Thanks for watching.
Outstanding shave Eric.
It was really comfortable, and I love that soap. It smells like deer season. Thanks Barry!
Thank you for a very helpful video. Your very clear explanation is excellent. I added more water laps (to 100) and maintained undercut the whole time. It was an absolute game changer for me.
Man that’s awesome. It was for me as well. I am stoked it helped, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the kind shout out. Love watching your videos too. That music was very good. I’ve got some zydeco(?) music I’ll add next video.
Zydeco is cool, it’s Creole & Cajun music mostly sang in English. It has a big following in St. Landry, Acadia and Lafayette parishes, it’s still very common. I am a a fan of traditional Cajun Music which is sang in French (our French), it’s a dying art. One more Canadian stone to video, then we are on the South African stones!
Enjoyed this one! I made some pulled pork last weekend. Have a great weekend!
Thanks Barry, can’t hardly best pulled pork and brisket. And you have a good weekend and well!
Overheard recently in Cajun Country… Hey woman get me a band aid…and now 🗣️ 🔥😡 🫵 You be changing that attitude there mister or you might just go bleed out 🩸 😂😂😂😂😂
That kind of talk to a Cajun lady can get a man hurt. 😜
Fantastic video. I am looking forward to more of the different stones. Thanks for sharing and take care.
That Nakoda edge looked the business! Sank its edge into you just like the packing peanut. 🩸😮 nothing alum can’t fix. 👍 soap looked great too.
You have to pay to play. Those things happen. The edge was fantastic. Thanks for watching
The background music blurs your oration…. Keep up the interesting content. 👍
Thanks, I have some work to do on my audio when honing on my workshop. It was raining and tried to clean up the audio and failed.
Hi Eric. I'm with you. I like vegan soaps but I guess I prefer tallow soaps. I could not shave without my glasses on 🙂 have a good Friday
Thank you my friend, the vision struggle is real. Enjoy your weekend.
Amazing lather from the new boar 🐗 bristles brush ...I struggle with pig whisker brushes. Probably, I don't know how to beat them into submission 🤷 😅. Lovely W&B I only own one😢 ,a late hollow ground, it's in my top 10 of razors . Nice to see someone checking and trimming a shave 😊 Feed your stone addiction, it's good for us all ....we all benefit that way !😅. Thank you Eric for the kind call out mention, your a scholar and a gentleman 🎉
That’s an awesome tallow base soap. The boar brush did perform well for the first use. That razor is my favorite Sheffield I own, love that steel.
Great shave Eric, that was super smooth! Them stones work really well my friend
I do like the first two very much. You will see.
You always find the coolest stones. Great video!
Thanks Joe. I have plenty of help finding razor stones and reasons to buy them 🤣😜. I thought these were interesting, cost verses quality has been impressive.
Nice stone Eric. I also think i am done with my Gold Dollar's as test razors. I did a comparison shave with two GD razors the other day. They were both honed with different natural stones. It turned out to be a blind test, because stupid me forgot which blade was honed on which stones:) My point is, they felt the same. The steel is not capable of giving you an edge were you can tell these subtle differences. If i use a typical German razor i can much easier pick up on the differences the different stones make to the final results. It really does not feel like the information i get from honing a GD is all that useful anymore. That is just my opinion. Life is too short:)
I have had a rash of decent GD, completely got to crap. I don’t needs any additional stress in my life. I am done with them. I may keep one to burnish stones with 🤣.
Another great sharing of honing experiences
Glad you enjoyed it.
You trying to start a war with Texas? Isn’t TX the South where BBQ requirements are Brisket, not Pulled Pork? I think after Honing Police, the BBQ Police are the worst. 😂
I am always trying to start a little something, it’s contagious 😷 😜
What a nice little stone , and a totally stunning W&B ....your wise thinning out the gold dollars, why add doubtful variables to your honing process ? ....good luck feeding your addiction 😅.
Thanks Martin. Yeah, no more GD for me. Too many good affordable Solingen razors at decent prices that only need a little love. Every time I think I am done buying stones, another gets brought to my attention.
Hi Eric. Nice. I like paddle strops. I am a little inexperinced with hanging strops. Have a good pre Friday
I like them both, and there is a place for both in my routine. Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend.
These are always fun to watch
Thanks Matt
