Vietnam Lightweight Rucksack Assembly
Просмотров 8 тыс.8 лет назад
Hi everyone, I decided to do a good to the point video on lightweight ruck assembly!
We had a Company CO in 1/4 carried one of these. His from Vietnam. 1976
Thanks, God bless you.
Excellent James thanks.
I have a lot of that stuff - and the one thing that makes me smile is just how short my ARVN rucksack straps are! My lightweight frame (the third type in this video) has the ruck and a PRC25 radio. Thanks for this info!
Hi. I’ve got what looks like the CISO INDIGENOUS RUCKSACK. Only it is not rubberised and has no map pocket. The inner flap is stamped: QM ITEM 730-1976 P/N 364-86-A43 CONT SSA-69-4661 INSPECTED: SS Any extra info as to where it came from would be appreciated. Cheers!
it sounds like you have a forestry service rucksack
I need a good P68 frame. I've got the pack, shelf, and strap kit. I just need the frame! Anyone know where I can find one?
James I have a 1968 Rucksack frame with out straps, can you tell me where to get some straps, thanks.
check Ebay listings under lightweight rucksack, there are some decent reproductions made from original materials available sometimes. Unfortunately original nos straps are virtually unobtainable without purchasing a complete rucksack
Thanks
Lovely collection.
I have the sack of the pack, now ordering a strap kit for it, all I need now is a frame!!!
Hey James,I’m from Australia and I think I just found a Rutsack Australian lightweight ,But not sure 🤔 Would you be able to help me if I send photos?
The Canadians made a version, it was a different shade of green and i believe the frame was coated in rubber or plastic
@@kurtrussell5228 can I send you some photos of it?How can I contact you?
I had the two pocket ARVN pack in '68. I had snatched it from some supply dump of used gear. As a 60mm mortar man I loved having the extra room over my USMC haversack. I never knew it was ARVN. I thought it was US Army. Had looked for one for years and only found Alice.
what is the point of like half of those straps on the frame?
cargo and accessory. for mounting or tie down.
Thank you so much for this video :) Just got my LightWeight Rucksack straps, this is gonna be very helpful :)
That's about 2 grand of lightweight rucksacks
I had 2 NOS p68s, i sold one for $300 about 2 years back.....i sure do regret that......but i did find a well used lightweight with frame and straps at thrift store for $40 recently ( they didn't know what it was)
Thanks for the info! Appreciated.
I found a rucksack at a thrift store and used it as a backpack didn’t know it was from the Vietnam war and it didn’t have the x frame but I love history so I’m glad I have it
My favorite rucksack was the lightweight x-frame ARVN, what a great piece.
You forgot the M1952 mountain rucksack which was also used in Vietnam!
“Very inferior design by todays standards” German army still using backpacks with no waist belts and an folded iso mat in the back as what comes closets to a frame
you need a plywood packboard
After seeing the assembly and amount of straps involved. I now totally understand why the ALICE was made. Love the video though.
If you watch platoon, all soldiers are seen with an ARVN. But platoon was the army, not the marines
Platoon is 25th ID, and in 1967 during operation baker a lot of G.I.'s from the 25th ID used ARVN's.
Nice collection sir! Great to see.
Some of the guys I worked with liked the NVA ruck but the only to get one is to kill one.
I served 1967/68 with the 1/14inf. Every one of us that could get one either used an arvn rucksack or a “captured” one from the n v a. I had to use that sorry ass Alice pack for a while. I “liberated” my n v a pack June 11 1967. Had to sew up a couple holes in it but it worked great. That and a claymore bag carried everything I needed.
May I ask what you hated about the alice pack? Thanks
ALICE packs weren't used in Vietnam and weren't even being produced until the early 70s.....you're remembering wrong.
What year did the ALICE equipment start to get issued ?
it was never issued in vietnam but came out in 75-76 after vietnam.
I grew up in New Zealand in the 80s and was in the cadets i had one of those load bearing packs the riveted type not sure which year and i wanted to buy another this year and it sold on eBay for over $1000 dollars !!!! My previous one cost me $40
You kinda look like detective Eric mathura from saw2
My dad brought back a two pocket arvn ruck he carried in 69.. he still uses it today to carry warm gear and coffee to his deer blind.. there is still dried blood on the corner outside pocket from 69 as well.. he has always refused to wash it..
Great video- really interesting stuff! What did they treat the webbing with? I only ask because I have a large Australian alice pack and the webbing is drying out and i don't want it to fall to bits :)
You forgot the M52!
👍👍👍👏👏👏
Nice collection !
Great job
When are you going to make more videos? They are vary interesting!
You just need a M52 rucksack to complete that collection. The p series ruck had to cost you an arm and a leg
Yeah probably 1,000 -1,500 for all of those
😲
wow where did you find all of these, they ar so expensive
Melvyn Antona for real lol
@@WarKid-ut8mx i am @the_vietnam_war_collector_ from Instagram btw ;)
You should make more videos. I’ll look forward to seeing more videos like this.
Where did you find the early backs????
I prefer my welded frame to any shit tier frames they have today, getting prone with 150 pounds
I thought the M-67 was called a alice pack..that is the one I have and used to have the frame, but got rid of it because it is too heavy...
I'm currently finishing up my 1968 USMC Vietnam Era impression. There isn't a lot of info out there on backpacks/rucksacks and lots of misinformation pertaining to M67 gear. Thank you so much for your help and clarification. I'm going to go find myself an ARVN ruck.
Thanks for your video please if you have more info on these packs post
Was the CISO rucksack used by special operations because they are sterile?
Yes,and also SOG
@@jamesmckinney747 if they had sterile bags like that, what types of rigs / harnesses for ammunition and equipment would they use ?
@@jamesmckinney747 and did they use Chicom gear ?
In some cases
MaceGaming53 They used the STABO harness
Wow...Great video. Nice collection. Very informative. Thank you!
ill buy one of those frames off of you!
