New Year's Day Hike on the Dosewallips River
January 1, 2025 @hikingwithbendingwillow9646 , @tailgunnerhikes4703 , and I broke out our hiking boots and winter legs for a hike up the Dosewallips River Trail in Olympic National Forest. We were on the search for the Tunnel Creek Trail and a couple of backcountry shelter sites as well as fresh air and an adventurous start to our new year.
The Dosewallips River is part of the ancestral lands of the S'Klallam, Suquamish, and Twana/Skokomish peoples.

Photographing Stick Season on Old Sauk River Trail
Просмотров 4512 часов назад
I was hoping to get this video out before the end of 2024, but here it is anyway. I hiked on a favorite trail near winter solstice and marveled at the wondrous forest beauty in winter. I was excited to photograph mushrooms, mosses, hanging leaves, and all the bare sticks (trees). With an added bonus of hiking the forested banks of the Sauk River, there are some river views tossed into the mix. ...

Backpacking under Big, Big Trees on the Hoh River
Просмотров 67Месяц назад
On Mother's Day, I accompanied my sister and her 9-year-old granddaughter on a backpack up the Hoh River Trail to Five-and-a-Half Camp. We hiked under massive trees and camped next to the river and watched as our little hiking buddy explored nature and fell in love with the wilderness. The Hoh River Trail occupies the ancestral lands of the Quileute and Coast Salish peoples. For more informatio...
Using Contrasting Colors in Photography

Another short video examining ways to use color in your photography. Here we are looking at complimentary colors. Although the complement to orange is actually blue and the complement to green is red, this is close to show that warm colors stand out against cool colors and help to make your photos pop. music provided by EpidemicSound.com Stills camera: Sony a6000 with Tamron 18-300 all-in-one l...
Color Theory in Photography: Monochrome
Просмотров 193Месяц назад
Back in photography school, my professor sent us out on assignments to create compelling photos using color film (yes, I'm that old). Our first assignment was NO sunrises or sunsets. We were not to rely on color alone to create an image, we needed to use all the lessons we had while using black and white film. Starting off the lessons was an old reliable friend, monochrome - mono=one, chrome=co...
Exploring Heceta Head Lighthouse
Просмотров 162 месяца назад
Exploring the Oregon Coast in August brought me to an old favorite, the Heceta Head Lighthouse. I started the morning on a tidepool tour with the Cape Perpetua Collaborative. Then I made a quick hike to the lighthouse. What a way to start a day on the coast. Heceta Head Lighthouse is on the ancestral lands of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, Siuslaw, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and Confederated ...
Solo Backpacking the Ozette Triangle, part 2
Просмотров 952 месяца назад
In March of 2024, on a perfect weekend, I backpacked alone along the wild coast of Olympic National Park. It had been 20 years since I had attempted a solo backpack - I had been too afraid and not confident in my skills to try it again. Yet here I am, hiking to a beach on my own. This is part 2 of the adventure - check out part 1 here: ruclips.net/video/_tax5p5RB4Y/видео.html. The Ozette Triang...

Scouting out a new-ish location

I needed a little tree time, so drove up a road I hadn't driven in years and found a fun little place to photograph bubbles and small cascades. This little fun place is on the ancestral lands of the Skykomish People. If you want to check out the filters I'm using, check them out here: kasefilters.us/wolverinemagnetic.html Again, I am not paid by them. Stills Camera: Sony a6000 with Tamron 18-30...
Backpacking around Mother Mountain
Просмотров 1052 месяца назад
In September, I met up with 2 new friends to hike around Mother Mountain in Mount Rainier National Park. Two nights of sleeping in the trees hiking through old growth and alpine meadows. We even got to see two mountain goats and a black bear and a whole heck of a lot of mushrooms. Mount Rainier National Park is the ancestral lands of the Puyallup People. For more information on this hike and ot...

Weekend Backpack along the Duckabush River
Просмотров 785 месяцев назад
At the end of June, I hiked with a group of Mountaineers to 5-mile-camp on the Duckabush River in the Olympic National Forest. We started out sunny, but being the PNW, rain began to fall. But that didn't dampen our spirits or our sense of adventure. The Duckabush River runs through the ancestral lands of the S'Klallam, Suquamish, and Twana/Skokomish peoples. For more information on the Duckabus...
