no mention of the camber gain in the rear that can only be fixed with a weld on kit?
@slimsqde7397 doesn't sound very beginner to be honest
@FeelTheDrive whats that gotta do with a beginner who buys this suspension then realises they have an incorrect alignment in the rear. it should be noted that it comes with lowering the car and if you want a normal alignment in the rear you cant have that without doing the mod. it is 100% info anyone who wants to modify there suspension should be aware of. it is a major supporting mod to lowering the car
@slimsqde7397 plenty of people have lowered Z3s without needing to weld any kit on to align the rears 🤷🏽♂️ sure there's reasons it might be needed but for the vast majority it's not something that's considered. So it's a good thing you've commented to let people know it's something they should think about!
Generally, the Horsepower gain with a better exhaust is small somewhere say 10-20 HP unless you include new Headers which may give you another 10 HP over the exhaust gain.. But where you will see an improvement is your throttle repsonse, it will be much quicker. The majority of cars today and Z3's or E36's included is by restricting air in, and air out to "reduce" horsepower and in return get better MPG for whatever pollution laws your country may have. Most countries today regulate certainly MPG in cars, and it's always air intake and exhaust where companies "detune" a car today. It's just anything else, the price for a good exhaust has gone up a good bit making exhaust systems expensive for nice ones.
Headers will give you the best performance gain, and they used to be somewhat available, but for older Z3's they are very hard to find a good set of prefabricated stainless steel headers. Adding a port and polish to current headers may be an option towiden the headers slightly to make the header gasket which are generally larger than the exhaust port size in the headers. For reasonable priced "back boxes" of mufflers that will help with a freer flowing exhaust check out Megan Racing. They sell free flowing "racing" mufflers that are not crazy loud that may get you into trouble. It would be one of their "Universal" mufflers, and would need to be welded onto current exhaust but they are stainless and not too expensive.
Why do you have a striper pole ?
@@244hz-Noice traded a paperclip for it
Hey man Can you put this one on 96 4 cylinder?
@@Villager5 yup! The one in the video is a 97 4 cylinder
I bet this video could have a good follow up being 3 years later
Trying to get my auxiliary fan to work because the car overheats.
@@jamalwalker2104 do you know if it's definitely the fan? And if it is, do you have a clutch fan or electrical fan? If you have a clutch fan it's fairly simple to replace and you can do the water pump at the same time!
I came here to see a Z3 race car, and instead I got a close-up of a dude's face for 12 minutes. jibber jabbering about something or another.
@@Aeneas137 wow, still here. Why don't you go and watch the Z3 racing videos then?
I have a 1999 z3 now for 6 years with a 2.8 and in that 6 years I never had one oil leak .
If you can get serious heat on a bolt it can sometimes come off with your grips
I don’t have a “racecar” but a 2.8 coupe that I have a long list of plans for. I’ve done a couple of HPDEs and autoX already with coilovers and 200tw tires. I still have a lot to the learn and have a ton of plans for the car. I don’t know if it’s the fastest but it’s such a blast to drive.
What do you think of the 2001 2.5? I’ve been shopping a Miata but found a one owner 2.5 that seems intriguing.
Love my 2000 2.5! No rust and with 110k on it she still looks stunning! Just bought the steel plate kit to repair the sagging glove box. If course, the plates came with no insulation instructions, so I guess I’ll be figuring that out myself, but it can’t be too difficult. I must say I’ve owned many many cars in my life including sports cars and this is the most fun I’ve ever had driving a small, two seater convertible. It’s so responsive and just drive so beautifully. It’s always been garage kept and it’s in just stunning condition, thank you so much for your video. It was great to watch, and I am going to look for a few things that you mentioned that I haven’t previously looked at.
Hello. It's about 11pm and I'm doing last minute research b4 I purchase one tomorrow. My choices are a silver 4 cyl automatic for $3000 U.S. with a top that has to be manually raised and lowered and 182,000 miles / A 6cyl Automatic with only 86,000 miles that is black on black or another 6cyl with a manual but it has a small dent on the passenger side just forward of the side marker and the drivers window needs manual assistance. The later 2 choices are both $5,300.00 U.S. Never knew anything about them except that they looked very cute. I'm also 6ft 1inch tall. lol Today is Mar 28 , 2024. What do you think? Wish me luck!
Go for whichever ticks all your boxes!
If your seat belt holder that is attached to the seats on the door side is broken you might consider the fix that I came up with. I went to a electrical supply store and bought some large black heat shrink tubing for splicing wires or cable. I was able to get some that gave me about 2 inches on both sides of the fracture. It has held up well for 6 to 8 years and it blends well with the original color as the original. A very simple fast fix a few dollars
Get yourself a set of Irwin bolt extractors (Amazon or any good tool store), absolute god send for any chewed up bolt because once they bite they do not slip. I have no connection to Irwin but consider them the best bit of kit in my tool box and have used them for years.
Getting things in place to work on cars again, will definitely take a look!
1239pm. Just getting my z3 tomorrow, where you get the front struts brace for the 4 cylinder 98Z3
what is zed3? the z is pronounced zee
Where does tea go? Not in a harbour
I am buying a R reg 2ltr 6 pot Z3. It RHD I am importing it to Spain LHD. Do I need to replace the headlights completely or is there a small lever at the back of the bulb housing that can change the direction RHD to LHD?
There's not many because most are owned and garaged by older folks. 2.8L/3.0 are definitely solid cars
the rear suspension sucks. It just doens't steer with the front. The set chamber is only good for specific turns and the toe is so limited to goes into snippy over steer. imo it's easier to just get a miata with better suspension.
2 years on how have you progressed?
Car is no longer with us unfortunately...the way life goes some times
Thank you for sharing interesting and clear information.
Very informative
I came back to watch the end of the second race, pure pain

Had my 1.9 since June has been great fun. Like you mentioned tho it’s the 2001 version and sadly it just isn’t pokey enough at all. And the engine is a let down. I’ve had an overheating problem since September, replaced thermostat, water pump, expansion tank (which didn’t fit - febi replacement) to then replace the radiator as it came with a fitted expansion tank. Still having problems now is an absolute pain to bleed. Love driving it but rn feel to scrap it. Regret buying the 1.9 so yeah if you can go for the older engines or a 6 cylinder. Stay far away from the facelift 4 cylinders.
I'm looking at a 2002 2.5 liter. Its an automatic so im not sure how that is going to go in terms of transmission issues.
Google is your better friend for that! Seems like there aren't many issues and it may need reprogramming if there is an issue
did you end up getting it? I am also looking at a 2001 2.5 automatic Roadster but I am not finding alot of reviews on the transmission would love to hear any thoughs
I actually went buy 1 ohh well they did not expect a girl to have a BMW scammer! Lol I didn't buy the car
I love this video this dude is claiming
I’m gonna be in the process of turning my 1.9 into a race car cause interior and exterior pieces are stupid expensive and I have more than a few broken interior pieces. So might as well build it and sell the scraps lol.
Headed this weekend to check out a 2000 Z3 with the 2.5 with only 58K miles. Thank you for making this!!
did you buy it
@@shray5861 yes sir, currently at 67K miles and she’s been great! Couple small things I’ve fixed (door seals, antenna grommet, seat bushings) and a solid detail. Just ran it in autocross this past weekend as well 👍
Just bought a z3 188.000 miles on a 4 cyc just replaced entire cooing system
Thank you for your INFORMATIVE AND THOUGHTFUL VIDEO showing that it is a EXPERIENCE not just a CAR. I had a 1964 MGB back in 1971 that I REALLY MISS. The Z3 is VERY MUCH like the 1964 MGB ROADSTER. I ALSO had a 1974 Fiat X1/9 that I put 185/60VR-13's that made it like driving a oversized GO-KART. I ALSO loved the removable hard top, GLASS BACK WINDOW, built in rool bar, UNBELIEVABLE TRUNK SPACE for SUCH A SMALL CAR and GREAT GAS MILEAGE. NOW that I'm getting OLD (70) I MISS the FUN OF DRIVING, I WANT AND LIKE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THE ONLY WAY TO DRIVE unless you run into HEAVY TRAFFIC then I'll just go a DIFFERENT WAY OR PARK AND WAIT.😉👍😁 PEOPLE JUST DON'T REALIZE WHAT THEY ARE MISSING without driving a CONVERTIBLE WITH THE TOP DOWN AND SHIFTING GEARS DOWN A WINDING ROAD. 😘👍
The European BMW 6 cylinder M54 2.2L engine is a superb alternative to the 3.0L. It's smooth, sounds great, efficient, reliable and powerful enough to offer a great driving experience in the Z3.
Z3 3.0 manual in silver, 109000km facelift widebody, would you do it! or a Z4?
I'd go for the Z3. The Z4 is a lovely car, should make a series on that! But the Z3 is just that little bit more special and classic
Yeah, that's what I was thinking, don't you think the Z3 looks a bit like was it an early MG... interesting that one of the designers was Japanese, hmmm, me thinking MX5 also... what a great era. Thanks.
Do not use a gear wrench for this
Yeah they're not great for protecting against rust
Just purchased a 1998 today that is amazing shape with just over 92,000 miles. No rust, convertible top and rear screen are basically new. The drive home with it was just amazing in the handling. I took a pretty crooked road home just to test out the handling - awesome!. The only thing that I need to do is get the front seats restitched. Leather is not torn, just the stitching has come apart. Only had it a day and already having fun driving this car!
Great to hear! May you enjoy many more twisty roads and top down cruises!
Good practicing. That's what I need to do. I think Aris said they changed the Steering Rotation from 1000 to 400 but you may want to stick with what you have it at. Your times are really fast
Thanks! I'll give that a go, might give more turn in without sliding. It's been a grind and there's still time out there!
@@FeelTheDrive I haven't done many laps Valencia, my times were in the upper 1.34's. So I did around 20 laps and checked out your setup. It actually is a pretty good setup Motec was showing a little too much Pitch could bump up to 900 Bump Rate, Oversteer is good, Body roll is good, Aero / Pitch is good but could use a click or 2 higher on the rear. Brake bias felt good at 56.2/56.4, camber I went with 3.8/3.7 front and rear toe I went to -1.0. I was having trouble getting it to rotate enough on that long corner where everybody gets an off track. Maybe could use even more rear toe. I was finally able to break into the low 1.33's but I still need a lot of practice. Good luck on hitting 1.31's
Well done. This was helpful.
Thanks! Glad it helped
FYI, the Coupe was out in 1999, and in the US, the non-M came the 2.8 Double Vanos motor. For the model year 2000, they updated to the 3 liter motor.
I got a 2001 3.0 liter with 34500miles........for 500usd 😂 It's pretty nice looking too.
Great video and explanation. Glad to see this car gathers enthusiasts all over the world forming bonds. Can’t wait to get my blue 1999 2.3 in manual transmission. Just closed the deal and waiting for the paperwork.
Rust is the biggest killer of every car if it's made of steel, unless it's stainless steel.
red car. blue weaved/blocked but red never was beside till after he rolled out of the brakes and threw it up the inside well after turn in. Reds fault. blue had bad karma.
Blue car weaved, which is not okay obviously, but red car ran into him after letting off the brakes. He wasn't on the limit so he chose to squeeze into an impossible space instead of holding the brake a while longer, backing off and doing a clean overtake later. A head bashing contest between two idiots.
Where exactly do you live mate? I'm from Llanelli and I was wondering if there is a z3 meet this summer we can meet there!
