A few marches on this one I hadn't heard before, including 'Guns at Batasi and 'Conquest'. Rodney Bashford was a bit of a legend - even in his own time! Played several of his unique arrangements, under his direction, whilst a member of the National Wind Band of Scotland over 40 years ago. Great times. Thank you for posting, Ross.

This is a very classy recording by a band and conductor at the top of their game. The poise and elegance of the playing - just listen to the articulation and balance in 'The New Colonial'- is so good. The LP cover picture is the RMSM 47:11 band Beating Retreat at Broadlands, home of the late Earl Mountbatten of Burma. He loved the Royal Marines Band Service and, when he was First Sea Lord, said the Royal Marines Bands were the best 'soft power' weapon in the land. Thank you for posting, Ross. Made my afternoon.

Thank you, but when you show the word "live", it suggests to me that we will be seeing the performers in action, which is my preference. There are regular (although perhaps not frequent) similar concerts in the RAH, on RUclips, with audio quality superior to CD audio, and first class video direction. Seeing the artists perform adds so much (provided you don't watch/listen on your computer), with the sounds of an audience, also an important part of the experience. After all, a music performance is more than just an audio event, it's also a video event, and to only listen is to miss half of the music experience. Performing any type of music (except quite a lot of the current junk being mindlessly spewed out) is always intended to be a shared, living, event and finally, modern technology puts the ideal close to reality. My 3000 CDs, now sit untouched, as I enjoy the much more complete music experience from WATCH performances recorded from RUclips and played in my home cinema. Of course, I fully understand people seeking out worthwhile performances even though only audio is available, particularly if the number of different concerts, is limited, (and I'm also an enthusiast for these concerts, but on RUclips video), so what I've written isn't intended as a negative response to the comments from other people.
