Because the entire time I’m thinking that this game is actually way better than it has any right to be, and to invest all the time and MLB resources, etc. to make just “one game” felt weird. Do you know the logic behind why they made this just for the GameCube? Were they thinking that console needed an “arcade” baseball game instead of a more “simulation” one?

@@obscuristgaming That part I'm less clear on. I wonder whether it had anything to do with the fact that World Series Baseball never got a GC release? (They planned to have 2K3 come out on GC, but scrapped it at the last minute.) If you were a baseball gamer on the GC, your only early choices were either this, or a port of All-Star Baseball from Acclaim. Slugfest came out the next year, and then MVP and Mario Superstar Baseball a few years later. Or who knows, maybe they were looking for a console exclusive baseball game the way NBA Courtside had been in basketball for the N64/GC, and here's a perfectly functional game engine that was dropped from WSB by Sega in favor Visual Concepts/Blue Shift, and they snapped up the rights and rebranded it HR King. It always felt to me like a WSB 2K1 sequel that got re-skinned after Sega replaced WOW as developers for World Series.

That all adds up! You would think something called home run king would have more in common with a game like Slugfest. But if you look at it as a rebranded WSB game, it feels right. I wonder if it suffered from a marketing issue at the time or not. I’ll definitely be playing some of the titles you mentioned in the future, so looking forward to playing those.

As someone starved for a new tennis game, I like it more than most. But it’s shallow, and the online power meta is gamebreaking for a lot of people. Hopefully this can be adjusted in “season 2”

Its also has a mobile version called virtua tennis challenge its lack of depth but still enjoyable it first released in 2012

@@obscuristgaming monfils hits or use to hit a one handed slice backhand alot didnt he ... he would slide on clay and reach for a slice... its crazy too think he can jump like 5 feet in the air but cant beat like fat overwieght players his serve is just too weak!

Yes, but there is no such thing as a two handed slice, if that’s what you’re asking! But yeah, he would often try to extend points using slices and his speed/court coverage. And yeah, unfortunately he never quite got over the hump, even when he was sniffing around the top 10 back in the day.

Awesome! I'm in the same boat! My channel is all about stadium creator and showing off other people's work on it, and my own. I'll take a look at those parks and probably put one of them in my next video. I just started RUclips, and building stadiums, last August so It's a small channel but we've got a pretty good community of stadium builders. If you're interested at all I just started a discord server a couple weeks ago where we just talk baseball, stadium creator, etc. If not no worries but I'll definitely shout out your channel in my next video!

Most courts are unlocked in MyCareer, which you have to be online to play. The only game mode available offline is exhibition, but you can choose any unlocked court there.

If 48 venues isn’t enough, how many would you want? Agree with everything else though! And I would love a stadium creator.

Lack of players is disappointing too dude. No Nadal and Jokovic is shocking. You used to get more players in Smash Court Tennis and Virtua Tennis games back on the PS2 and Xbox 360. And always online is totally unnecessary.

What makes it disappointing in comparison to topspin 4? I'm about to hit buy, but the always online thing for career mode is red flag for me.

⁠@@clinthufkie3242I don’t know about topspin 4 but its pretty barebones with few activities and has little of the depth or presentation you would see in other AAA sports titles. Parts of it could be improved in future updates, if 2K chooses to.

Yeah that’s good advice! I agree- it mostly takes time and experimenting with the mode to understand it, but also working backwards on a stadium you already like is a good way to learn.

When I started doing it on MLB 21 there wasn’t guys like you giving tutorials so it was kind of learning on the fly at that time

Hey I’ve been trying to make a modern version of Seals Stadium, just don’t like any of the upper decks I’ve made, I read you like creating classic stadiums and wondering if you had any advice or tips on what I can do? Thanks

@@GrandAdmiralShanahan If any of the default stand sets don't work for what you're trying to make, then using the "old stands" prop and stacking them, is probably the way to go for Seals Stadium- it also allows you to get creative with tunnels and such, where needed.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve seen that explanation before for the game, but that doesn’t seem right. I have plenty of E rated games with online/custom name abilities for Xbox; just to name a couple MLB The Show I can name players, teams, and stadiums and share those online, and Planet Zoo I can name zoos, exhibits, animals, and share those online too. The only explanation that makes sense to me is that they are a small team so they had to cut it from the game for whatever reason. Maybe it was broken when they ported it over or something, and they don’t know how to fix it?

@@obscuristgaming question the games you have seen it for… are they done by a big studio or a smaller one? Something like MLB show I imagine has the money to resolve an issue like this quickly because they are able to pay for whatever they need to to expedite that vs a smaller studio not really having the tools to handle something like that

All good! Yeah I think both are bigger studios and such, and with the Xbox version being broken for the first couple weeks (autodeleting restaurants), I’m sure the focus was there! Still would like an official explanation from the team since I’ve seen hundreds of folks comment and ask and the only formal response I’ve seen is from a Reddit community manager, and they said the same thing you did.
