Nice looking tractor! We still have my dad's 730 and 12 foot rwa disk although they were "retired" back in 1977. Good equipment just too small for todays farming operation. We still play with it for the fun of it and remember when it was the "big" tractor on the farm. Pulling the old AC All-Crop 72 really makes it snort whan we are running 90+bushel of wheat through it! Back in 1966 if the wheat made 40 bph we were happy. My how things have changed!

If you have all that rye, can't you mill it so we can have pumpernickel bread? I would love to devour a Rueben on the rye sandwich piled high with corned beef!? Oh, and by the way, do you also raise beef cattle with fat& sassy briskets?

1969 was the last year of the Model 45, as well as the rest of the "5 Series."

Nice stand of beans there Roger. Back when I started out in the late 60's I scrounged up man early A Gleaner and a round back 55 Deere. The Deere was by far the better machine!

My Dad used a 6’ Van Duran horse drawn converted to be pull by a tractor (a B Allis Chalmers) and usually planted around 50-60 acres of oats or a combination of oats and wheat every year. Took days to do the farm!

Wish I had a few acres to plant. I haul grain for a neighbor/friend . He has asked if I would like to plant a few acres. I’m sure he has a corner somewhere where it is more of a bother for him to get into with the big equipment that it is worth. I have an 8 ft. IH grain drill almost like my Dad had.. I also but a Co-op check corn planter with the wire, stakes and book so I would like to try demonstrating that. I have my Grandpa’s Farmall H and a cultivator so I could demonstrate cultivating in both directions. We’ll see what spring brings.

Nice 730. I always wanted one but I never have gotten one. Had 2 different 720 diesels through the years and I started farming myself with a 630 and it was a good tractor. Have more modern tractors now other than a Super MTA that needs restoration. Thanks again for sharing the video.

Which RWA do you have? Mine has 7 disks per gang, and ball bearings. Post ‘61 from loop hose stand. Years ago I had both 720 and 730 diesels

Your 730 does not have the high speed transmission. At 3:47 the shifting pattern clearly shows 1st, 2nd, and 4th on the same side as reverse. High speed transmissions have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd on the the same side as reverse. I wish John Deere would build some of these classic tractor series, new again. Although, too many modern regulations would ruin them.

What type of pull type combine did you use? I still farm with the equipment my grandfather and dad bought new in the 50's and 60's. We run a 50, 520, 620, 630 and 720 Diesel. along with a 95 Corn special (Diesel). We like farming with the old equipment, as we can repair most of it ourselves.

I use a John Deere 1240 with the same marker system, every spring I clean the marker control with Carb cleaner to makr sure its super clean then put a little wd40 on it, works fantastic.

That disk looks like mine you can adjust the angle. More angels more cut.

You can get better cutting action by adding weight to your disk, 100-150lbs per gang. Growing up, we had a MM 10’ disk that we added weights to and you couldn’t believe the difference, it would cut and break up the stacks to the point that it would look as if it was chisel plowed!

My grandfather had a 1941 Model M at his place in SE MO. Spent a lot of time on that wonderful tractor as a youth.

You can adjust the clearance of the snapping rolls. The dryer the corn the more butt shelling it will do. As it gets colder, I'll do my picking in the morning and again later at night because the drying stalks tend to load up in the head. When I was younger I used to easily cover a couple hundred acres with a New Idea picker and picker sheller. You may find the Over under on the Oliver handy. We used a 4020 power shift. That was an enjoyable job for me. I started running the picker when I was 16. I ended up doing most of the picking on that farm even after I got another job on another dairy where I picked most of the corn there too.

Nice vid. I have a New Idea 324 on 38” rows and I used it last year to pick popcorn and a little field corn. I actually pull it behind my 20 HP John Deere 750! I have to go slow put it does pull it, though I don’t have the sheller, just the husking bed. I wouldn’t mind having a little more power though, like that beautiful Oliver. Keep the vids coming!
