SAILING SAOIRSE - What, how and why our journey came to an end.
I apologise in advance for the amount of tears in this video, it has taken us a while in the hopes that we could make it through it a little bit stronger but it doesn't seem possible.
Robin was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2023.
Saoirse was a dream and a goal that we set in motion 13 years ago. We decided to sell up everything we owned in South Africa and find a yacht that we could sail the world on. It took us a good few years to get the plan in motion and everything sold up. Eventually in 2019 we found Saoirse, a bare fibreglass hull that needed a lot of work and TLC. We took on the challenge thinking “we could get this done in 6 months… fast forward to 2 and a half years later. After...

Fair winds old Sailor, Goodbye Saoirse 💔
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.11 месяцев назад
This video was difficult to make in so many ways. Packing up Saoirse in the hopes of selling her was tough, we wanted to leave her in new owner ready condition which meant clearing her out, deep cleaning, fixing and making sure she was in tip top shape. It is always a difficult task in Trinidads heat. It was an extremely hard goodbye, any boat owner will know that a boat is more than an object....
Sailing Saoirse - Turning back SOUTH for hurricane season 🌪🌊
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Год назад
We turned back south from Antigua towards our end destination - Trinidad. We wanted to get south for hurricane season and to try to get Saoirse hauled out and safe as early as possible in the season. We planned for a good enough weather window to allow us to get to Grenada while stopping every evening to anchor for the night. We planned the distances and travel time perfectly, we didn’t get to ...
The beautiful waters of Antigua - Falmouth Harbour 💙
Просмотров 1 тыс.Год назад
Antigua has had some of the clearest water we’ve every experienced! We anchored in Falmouth harbour for about 5 weeks so Colben and Teagan could complete their sailing courses they needed for their new job in the BVI’s. We enjoyed amazing views off of the back of Saoirse, we had eagle rays, sting rays and turtles come past daily! The best thing was switching the under water lights on at night a...

We left Guadeloupe and headed further north to Antigua 💙 We waited for a “perfect” weather window to head across in but the weather Gods were against us ONCE AGAIN. We headed out expecting great conditions only to be hit with squall after squall and big seas that were beam on. It was completely manageable it was just completely opposite of what we were expecting. We’ve gotten used to the fact t...

Sailing Saoirse ⛵️Guadeloupe - 36knot winds‼️ Incredible underwater life & Magical hot springs 🏝
Просмотров 844Год назад
We left Les Saints for Guadeloupe, we had beautiful wind and calm seas. We arrived at Bouillante, a little town on the west side of Guadeloupe. We had heard of the amazing hot springs that flow into the bay and we had to go and try it out. The hot springs are supposedly full of nutrients and minerals and are believed to have healing properties. We dived off of a tiny little island off of the so...
Les Saintes - the Quaintest Island we've been to!
Просмотров 956Год назад
Les Saintes is a group of 5 islands off of the south coast of Guadeloupe. It was one of our top 5 places we’ve stopped at in the Caribbean. It is quaint, occasionally quiet, and beautiful to explore. With the islands being so small it is easy to walk around or rent an electric bicycle. Only 2 of the 5 islands is inhabited and the population of all of the islands is around 3500 people. The town ...
Sailing Saoirse - Exploring magical Martinique ⛵️🍹

Our time in Martinique was great. We arrived at St Anne's from Dominica and set anchor in the beautiful spacious bay. 'Checking in' on the French islands is super easy. We went ashore and found the little coffee shop that had a small room off to the side, where we went onto a computer, put in all our boat details and crew list, printed out our official document, paid the €3 for the shop owner t...
Island hopping from Bequia to Martinique ⛵️

We left Bequia and started our journey to Martinique. We didn’t want to do the crossings at night, so we broke our journey up and stopped in St Vincent and St Lucia along the way. We had been watching the weather and decided to take a gap that was showing very good conditions. Unfortunately, yet again, it wasn’t the conditions we were reading. The swell and wave intervals were shorter than pred...

We are at anchor in Le Marin and Saoirse is right next to us (Mulan) in the Anchorage. I saw the youtube logo and hooked you up, since I thought, we may have some topics to share. Now seeing this video, I am really sad and sorry for your loss. But seeing the videos, you can be happy and proud, that you could have a great time together. RIP.

So many people work flat out their whole life and never get a chance to live their dreams, Robin managed to buck that trend and lived his, I'm sure as he passed he was happy and content with what he achieved in life, hopefully celebrating this knowledge will make it easier for you all 🤞We all have to pass some time, at least Robin lived a good life and left the world a better place than he found it 👍

Thank you to all of you for taking us along on your journey. Throughout Robin was the quiet, steady presence, and mostly kept himself in the background. This video is a very fitting tribute to Robin and shows so clearly the beautiful, closely knit, family you have. So clear to see you all respect each other and are open to each of you being who you truly are. And with giving each other that space come the fiery moments that act as a signpost to the beautiful times that make the blessed memories. You shared those blessed times with us in your videos. It is very special that you are able to share with us those very tough times you had. I wish you all the very best for the future. I'll stay subscribed because I hope to see the odd update from your lovely family at some point.

So sorry for your loss! RIP My wife and I are in the same “boat” We started sailing Hobies in 2000, my wife got breast cancer in 2016, sold our house in 2021, bought a 38 foot Morgan and started sailing offshore California Channel Islands. Just getting the hang of it, falling in love with our boat, living on it, then boom cancers back, stage four. The big difference is my wife could no longer sail or even live on the boat. So cancer literally took the wind out of our sails. Treatments have made her somewhat comfortable by not really, so no chance of sailing, not even short day sailing. Now we have the boat for up sale, the dream is gone. Moving on, we’re still vertical, so just struggling to cope with our new reality. Best to you all, whatever you do.

A lovely video that’s really hard to make 😪. It was August last year when my dad passed away at 92 during an afternoon sleep in his bed at home which was a comfort to us. My mom went through a similar path to Robin a few years before and it’s soul destroying seeing how the cancer destroys a loved one’s body😢. It was great to get to meet you all in Trinidad and shew was it really seemingly such a long Hurricane season. What memories you all made together hey. Not many can say that ! It will be super if Karen ends up in the BVIs with you 2. We have just arrived in the Philippines and started to explore this part of the world. SE Asia has some lovely waters and it’s crazy to think we have been out here from the Caribbean for 2 years already.

Guys, so sorry to hear of the passing of robin. While it is hard to accept, his wish that he lived his remaining time without the crippling effects of chemo was his choice. Unless it is better than 75% chance of success it is hard for anyone to undergo that treatment. Trust me I witnessed that myself with my dad 40 years ago and it still haunts me to this day to see his being destroyed and then his bowels and stomach destroyed with crippling pain. Rest in peace Robin, you are in gods hands now and safe from pain and suffering.

My ocean fishing advice for you guys: Get a container you can seal, fill it up with fresh engine or mechanic oil and put all your hooks, swivles, hard plastic baits with metal parts submerged into it, when you are not fishing. All corrosion will be paused, as long it is in the oil. When you are hardcore ocean fishing like you guys, you need to take care of your gear like no one else.

I can't help but wonder what happens with the plastic wine glasses and glass bottles from rum and plastic containers... often to be present in the views and videos of those to privilege to be able to visit these paradises... would imagine that most of these islands have their own "dump areas" it just occurs to me to wonder what happens with all of the debris from our "civilisation"... cheers from Toronto!

Hello there Saoirse! First, let me thank you for showcasing my beautiful home on your channel! I'm particularly impressed by the fact that you've not only shared your touristic experience, but also highlighted some of the issues that has adversely affected tourism in our country for many years. Much more can and should be done to protect and conserve our little slice of paradise. Far too long, foreigners have enjoyed too many 'freedoms' in our country and it has stunted the growth of our tourism and economy as a whole. I've lived on several continents and tourism in these larger territories is better marketed and well-priced. There's absolutely NOTHING free where tourism is concerned. Tourist come from countries with stronger currencies and much larger economies, and what they spend in SVG is considerably less than what I spend in their country as tourist, for the same or a lesser experience. I hope SVG remains on your bucket list and you encourage many others to visit!
