Sailing Saoirse

Hi there!
We are a South African family finishing a refit of an Island Spirit yacht. For now we are based in Langebaan, South Africa and we have great plans to explore the open ocean for the next few years.
We are originally from Ballito, owned a home that we built ourselves in 1993 - grew our family, made many memories and decided to sell up after 25 years.
This wasn't a rash decision on our part - it took 7 years of planning and organizing to be able to make this all happen, another year and a half to find the right boat and now another good few months working on her. We are now the proud new owners of Saoirse (sur-sha) a 38ft Island Spirit. Our Yacht originally was built in 1999 and capsized. The previous owner started the refit in 2010 and we took over in 2019.
Follow our videos of trying to get our new home up and running and hopefully soon we will be able to share our adventures.

Fair winds old Sailor, Goodbye Saoirse 💔
This video was difficult to make in so many ways.
Packing up Saoirse in the hopes of selling her was tough, we wanted to leave her in new owner ready condition which meant clearing her out, deep cleaning, fixing and making sure she was in tip top shape. It is always a difficult task in Trinidads heat.
It was an extremely hard goodbye, any boat owner will know that a boat is more than an object. Your boat is your home, your safety in terrible conditions, you have to have incredible faith in an object that can cross oceans and keep your entire family safe through it all.
Lets not forget the money pit that all your savings go into too😉
We miss Robin everyday but are so grateful to be able to ...

Sailing Saoirse - Turning back SOUTH for hurricane season 🌪🌊
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.Год назад
We turned back south from Antigua towards our end destination - Trinidad. We wanted to get south for hurricane season and to try to get Saoirse hauled out and safe as early as possible in the season. We planned for a good enough weather window to allow us to get to Grenada while stopping every evening to anchor for the night. We planned the distances and travel time perfectly, we didn’t get to ...
The beautiful waters of Antigua - Falmouth Harbour 💙
Просмотров 931Год назад
Antigua has had some of the clearest water we’ve every experienced! We anchored in Falmouth harbour for about 5 weeks so Colben and Teagan could complete their sailing courses they needed for their new job in the BVI’s. We enjoyed amazing views off of the back of Saoirse, we had eagle rays, sting rays and turtles come past daily! The best thing was switching the under water lights on at night a...
Sailing from Guadeloupe to Antigua💙

We left Guadeloupe and headed further north to Antigua 💙 We waited for a “perfect” weather window to head across in but the weather Gods were against us ONCE AGAIN. We headed out expecting great conditions only to be hit with squall after squall and big seas that were beam on. It was completely manageable it was just completely opposite of what we were expecting. We’ve gotten used to the fact t...

Sailing Saoirse ⛵️Guadeloupe - 36knot winds‼️ Incredible underwater life & Magical hot springs 🏝
Просмотров 830Год назад
We left Les Saints for Guadeloupe, we had beautiful wind and calm seas. We arrived at Bouillante, a little town on the west side of Guadeloupe. We had heard of the amazing hot springs that flow into the bay and we had to go and try it out. The hot springs are supposedly full of nutrients and minerals and are believed to have healing properties. We dived off of a tiny little island off of the so...
Les Saintes - the Quaintest Island we've been to!
Просмотров 809Год назад
Les Saintes is a group of 5 islands off of the south coast of Guadeloupe. It was one of our top 5 places we’ve stopped at in the Caribbean. It is quaint, occasionally quiet, and beautiful to explore. With the islands being so small it is easy to walk around or rent an electric bicycle. Only 2 of the 5 islands is inhabited and the population of all of the islands is around 3500 people. The town ...
Sailing Saoirse - Exploring magical Martinique ⛵️🍹
Просмотров 3 тыс.Год назад
Our time in Martinique was great. We arrived at St Anne's from Dominica and set anchor in the beautiful spacious bay. 'Checking in' on the French islands is super easy. We went ashore and found the little coffee shop that had a small room off to the side, where we went onto a computer, put in all our boat details and crew list, printed out our official document, paid the €3 for the shop owner t...
Island hopping from Bequia to Martinique ⛵️
Просмотров 871Год назад
We left Bequia and started our journey to Martinique. We didn’t want to do the crossings at night, so we broke our journey up and stopped in St Vincent and St Lucia along the way. We had been watching the weather and decided to take a gap that was showing very good conditions. Unfortunately, yet again, it wasn’t the conditions we were reading. The swell and wave intervals were shorter than pred...
Sailing Saoirse - Beautiful Bequia 💙

We headed across to Admiralty Bay in search for some calmer waters. Wind and rough seas were predicted for the week and we thought it was better to get around to more protected bay. After about 10 days of constant wind, rain and rolling in the anchorage we had a little 2 day break in the weather and decided to explore Princess Margret Bay and Lower Bay. All the little bays are joined along the ...
Petite Nevis & Friendship Bay, Bequia 🌈⛵️
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Год назад
We arrived at Petite Nevis, a little uninhabited island off the south of Bequia. The island was beautiful and secluded, there was one other yacht there and the water was beautiful. We headed to land and after we decided that the dingy landing wouldn’t be great for our hard bottom dingy, we had denver drop us off while we went to explore. The island is beautiful and untouched. There is a man old...

Sailing Saoirse - The last leg of our Journey to Trinidad
My ocean fishing advice for you guys: Get a container you can seal, fill it up with fresh engine or mechanic oil and put all your hooks, swivles, hard plastic baits with metal parts submerged into it, when you are not fishing. All corrosion will be paused, as long it is in the oil. When you are hardcore ocean fishing like you guys, you need to take care of your gear like no one else.
Mother looks exactly like daughter 😮
Denver the last dinosaur 🦕
Unfortunately many Trinidadians do not appreciate the beauty of our country. In What condition did you find the beach at Scotland Bay.
Teagan you sound like that lady from 60 minute Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
Very nice job .. really good
I've always thought of buying a boat to cruise with my family... but recently by your video and videos like yours gives me confidence do it thank you ❤❤❤
absolutely paradise! I can't help but wonder what happens with the plastic wine glasses and glass bottles from rum and plastic containers... often to be present in the views and videos of those to privilege to be able to visit these paradises... would imagine that most of these islands have their own "dump areas" it just occurs to me to wonder what happens with all of the debris from our "civilisation"... cheers from Toronto!
Gloves???
Please tell me what is the height of the central bridge of the catamaran above the water?
Mesmerizing footage, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it 💙
And soulful music in this video
You are very beautiful people, good luck to you!
Very Very good job!!!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Hello there Saoirse! First, let me thank you for showcasing my beautiful home on your channel! I'm particularly impressed by the fact that you've not only shared your touristic experience, but also highlighted some of the issues that has adversely affected tourism in our country for many years. Much more can and should be done to protect and conserve our little slice of paradise. Far too long, foreigners have enjoyed too many 'freedoms' in our country and it has stunted the growth of our tourism and economy as a whole. I've lived on several continents and tourism in these larger territories is better marketed and well-priced. There's absolutely NOTHING free where tourism is concerned. Tourist come from countries with stronger currencies and much larger economies, and what they spend in SVG is considerably less than what I spend in their country as tourist, for the same or a lesser experience. I hope SVG remains on your bucket list and you encourage many others to visit!
Great video 👍👍👌
Thank you 😄
Why not add a water maker when doing the refit? Seems like a real pain point could be taken care of with it. Plus you're not burning diesel.

Thank you 🤍🙏🏼
Don't go your separate ways! Keep going! I'm sure Robin would have wanted you guy to keep it going!
Unfortunately we have to get on with jobs and our lives but Colben and Teagan are carrying on with their sailing adventures in the BVI. They are currently working on charter catamarans there. I might go and join them in the future but for now we unfortunately can’t afford to keep Saoirse 💔
So sad. I know that yacht for close to 20 years I think ( ex Gordon's Bay ). It feels so unreal . . . it was like yesterday when you set sail from Saldanha Bay Yacht Club. She's cute 🥰
How long does it take to sail from Saldanha Bay to Kraalbaai roughly? :)
Oh that's probably the worst growth I've ever seen on a modern boat why did you not dive in and scrape it you must've had a top speed of 2 kn
😢
Dear Saoirse Family, I am sad about the end of your journey and especially sorry about your loss! Your dedication regarding transferring a formerly capsized and standard catamaran to such a beautiful home is fantastic, you put so much love and work into it! Since me and my partner (both close to 60 years of age) are planning on living on a catamaran, we began to survey upon potential boats. I always thought that your boat would be one of the best and absolutely perfect for our purposes. So I was quite surprised to find it online being offered for sale. Sadly it is a bit to early for us and so I hope you find someone for your boat who will really appreciate how you changed and outfitted Saoirse. I wish you all the best for your future! Kind greetings from Germany, Michael
I am sorry, I couldn’t listen to the Australian accent , I stopped 4 minutes in, it’s like you guys are trying to imitate a frog
We are so sorry that our SOUTH AFRICAN accent is hard to understand. Unfortunately we aren’t imitating anything, that is just how we speak.
Can't wait to hear the Americans attempt at pronouncing Saoirse?
It’s always a laugh when they try 😅
