The Truth About Self-Love: My Journey with PMDD and Complex PTSD
Today I'm sharing part of my personal journey with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), and what I've noticed about the trauma healing process working with people as a therapist. An earlier version of myself might cringe a bit, but this episode focuses on self-compassion, self-love, and other forms of tenderness as a key part of the healing journey.
About Me: I'm a somatic psychotherapist in training. In these videos I'm sharing my personal practice, where I bring together tools from somatic psychology and witchcraft to help people address issues like PMDD, anxiety, and depression.

Thank you so much for this video and all your videos for that matter. I've struggled with PMDD all my life. I'm 40 now. I've been misdiagnosed by so many doctors throughout my life, but I've always knew I had PMDD but didn't know it had a name. It really impacts my life. I'm a mom and a pursuing musician and it greatly impacts me but I'm now learning to manage it and like you said in this video, live with it. Really learning to accept my diagnosis and not fight it anymore, because that makes it worse. The shame and guilt is real, but now I"m letting that go. This diagnosis is not my fault. Anyway, I appreciate you, thank you! Love to you from a sista!

I don't know if mine's PMS or PMDD. All I know is that one half of the month, I'm the happiest person. The other half, everything hits. I'm very sad, just want to be alone, confused, doing the most not so sensible things and regretting it, getting unnecessarily angry and... I know stress makes things even worse. I don't think I'm okay.

Hi, I’m wondering how long did finding that place where he “gets you” and asks in this gentle way how you are or how is your pmdd…. How long did it take to perfect this? Is he able to maintain this every month? Do you juggle kids? I don’t mean to be rude, but the way you describe things, it all seems so calm. That is so far from my life, lol Especially adding children , who have their own issues. …. A space to strive for definitely! 🏝️

JUST NEEDED TO THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO !!!! Question if I may … What if I have PMDD and high functioning depression ? I’m about to talk to a therapist for the first time in a while. I don’t think I want to be on medication either because of my reaction to it in the past. Are there any women out there that think they have both PMDD and high functioning (general) depression? And how many of those women are also in a relationship with a depressed partner ? (Also high functioning general depression)? I mean I’M FUCKED 😂 !!!! But really. Anyone else ?!! Thank you, Laurie

FOLLOW YOUR JOY AND JOY IS NOT ALWAYS WHAT YOU THINK IT IS. AT THE BEGINNING I WAS RESISTANT TO BEING TRAUMA THERPIST, I DIDN’T THINK THIS IS WHERE I AM GOING TO END UP. BUT BY FOLLOWING MY JOY, READING THE THINGS THAT I FOUND INTERESTING, CONNECTING TO THE PEOPLE THAT I FOUND INTERESTING, LISTENING TO THAT THING DEEP INSIDE OF ME THAT WENT: “UUH WOW”. I FOUND MYSELF HERE. IF YOU CAN LISTEN TO THAT PART DEEP INSIDE YOU THAT GOES: “UU”, - THE CURIOUS PART, BECAUSE THAT WILL LEAD YOU TO THE JOY AND I THINK JOY LEADS US TO A PURPOSE.

Thank you for speaking about this I found out recently about my own pmdd, adhd and cptsd diagnosis and it’s been difficult and a grieving process. I connected with your story nd how sometimes it good soo bad certain months that it felt too painful to go through, I don’t have much support as I damaged and ended most of my close relationships last year because of the pain I released that I did not realize when I went to therapy for the first time really. You are the first person I found that has two of the same diagnosis. I have been listening to your podcast and on RUclips interviews you’ve done. Thank you!!! When no one understands me, I feel so much better connecting even so with you through your videos. Please continue to speak about this as many people even in my circle do not understand that it can literally make us feel crazy and I’ve been labelled paranoid by family members so it’s hurtful to be seen as mentally ill and crazy

PMDD is the most debilitating and lonely struggle that I have gone through so far in my 25 years of life. I have ADHD as well so it’s just very very difficult in general. I have two good weeks and then two weeks of utter misery: my system just completely shuts down and my body genuinely cannot deal with life anymore. The days leading up to my period and even at the onset of my period, I stop washing my face, brushing my teeth, taking a shower. I just keep SLEEPING. Even when I’m awake I just keep thinking about sleeping. Excessive sleep is most likely my body’s way of coping with PMDD episodes. It’s a very scary thing. I truly feel I can never be a fully functioning and participating individual in society with this illness.

It was very bad at one point. I have so much guilt and shame. I’m surprised my husband is still with me but very thankful. Now that I know I am willing to do whatever it takes to not hurt him anymore. This disorder is horrendous. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
