    Hey Bugsy mate, I'm trying to buy a live baiting combo for kings off the rocks and your help would be highly appreciated. I was wondering what your set up in this video is. I'm thinking of getting a 9 foot 6 inch PE 4 to 6 Daiwa Saltist rod and paired with a saltiest 10000 without PE 6 braid. I'd absolutely love your thoughts on that set up especially the actual length of the rod as most set up I see for live bait off the rocks arnt too long at all. Thanks heaps in advanced.

    • @bugsyfishing
      @bugsyfishing 23 дня назад

      Hey mate, the set up I use is a kind of all rounder for live baiting, tossing gars, and throwing big lures but it is a bit on the heavier side. Rod: Zenaq Tobizo TC83-150G PE5-8 rated with a Saltiga 20000 and PE8 12 strand Daiwa braid. I bought it for kings but also overseas trips for GTs, doggies etc. For Sydney and an all round rod/reel combo for livies and throwing lures, I would tone it down to a rod that is PE6 rated paired with a 14000 size reel with PE6 12 strand line. Depends where you fish and if you want to also do shore jigging with it re length but from 8'3" to 9'6" is good for livies/topwater lures. If you want to shore jig with it then go around 10'0". The next set up I buy will be a 14000 size reel with PE6 12 strand line and a 10ft rod rated at PE6. It will be perfect for Sydney livies/ topwater lures/shore jigging for bigger fish

    • @grunty3743
      @grunty3743 23 дня назад

      @bugsyfishing I am leaning towards the Daiwas Saltist range as I am being offered to get them at a cheaper price, which is sick! So based off your recommendations, I am limited to 2 rods really. They are the 23 SALTIST S962-3/5 and the 23 SALTIST S80-6/8. My main goal is to get an outfit to throw out livies and gars here in Sydney. I already have an outfit ( a 9" 6' 6 to 12kg) that I use to jig and throw stickbaits and other lures. Me personally I'm kinda leaning towards the 9"6' 3/5 salitist and pairing with a 14000 Saltist with 50 pound braid as I feel like the 80-6/8 is too heavy and also too short for fishing off the rocks. But the upside to the 8ft is that i can use it for other purposes as you said.What do you think?

    • @bugsyfishing
      @bugsyfishing 23 дня назад

      @@grunty3743 if you are heading towards the 9'6" see if you can find the Daiwa 20 Saltist Hyper Spinning Landbased Game Rod 9ft 6in PE4-6 2pc. I like that it is a touch heavier

    • @grunty3743
      @grunty3743 23 дня назад

      @bugsyfishing I am only limited to the saltist 23 range. So, based on that, would you say the 9'6" is too light for those bigger kings and longtails? If you recommend the 8ft, then I am happy to consider it as I feel like I can use the 8ft for other purposes such as trips and deep sea fishing as you mentioned. My only sort of doubt with the 8 foot is that it might be too short for fishing off the rocks. Is that the case? If you were in my position, what are you picking?

    • @bugsyfishing
      @bugsyfishing 22 дня назад

      @@grunty3743 hard choice. I feel the 8'0" rod is a bit short but depends on the ledge and if you need the length or not. Fine at some places. The PE 3-5 feels a bit light to me for land based live baiting. It will be fine on most fish, most of the time in Sydney I see guys land 80cm+ kings on that sort of set up, but you will likely get smoked by big kings every now and then, especially when you are trying to control them at your feet or if you can't turn their head early. Also the 10000 and 14000 are the same size reel just different spool size in terms of line capacity. So whatever you decide you can choose which spool size suits. Tough choice and you know where you are fishing better than me so I will leave it to you

      Hey mate, I used the Snowline Chainsen Pro spikes. The ones you pull over your shoes. Just because then I don't need to take another pair of shoes. But I think the old school cleats that you screw into your shoes provide better grip. But the Chansen ones work, you just need to make sure they don't wear down too much, as they start to slip
