Wow. I am in this video 3 times. 🚣♂ 🤣 Looks like you had a real adventure helping deliver Windwards boat. Can't wait to see her doing charters up this way. Edit: The marina puts the washer and dryer in the captains lounge when a hurricane is coming in case the laundry room floods.
Daniel"thrilled".... movie line? super green?
I really admire your grit. What you do would be very frightening to me, so watching you gives me a vicarious sailing experience.❤ ❤❤❤
Nice Vid, well at least now you know the deep blue sea sailing isn't for you, I suppose there is a huge difference between and catamaran and a single hull anyway, Our dog (Maggie) also hates the rain and normally refuses to go anywhere if it raining, looks like you all got pretty wet in it though. We also hate leaving Maggie when we go away and we are about to go for 2 weeks away and leaving her behind wont be easy. you guys stay safe
We have friends who are very experienced sailors, and they have a motto, "a gentleman never sails to wind". Yes, they're Brits! Choosing your conditions does not mean you're not sailors, it makes you smart. Also, finding what works for sea sickness is a very personal thing. We use meclizine starting 12-24 hours before departure and every 8 hours while underway. I (Geri) only take 1/2 dose because otherwise I'm really sleepy. For active nausea/vomiting, ondansetron is great for me, and useless for Shawn. It's a prescription med, but very safe. Most MDs will happily prescribe it for you if you tell them your plans. Also, ginger (chews, tea, etc) is great for nausea, and I'm planning to get Shawn a Relief Band (electric pulse) to try. Good luck finding your best solution.
Great video guys!
AAA+++ Well Done storm prep.
Let you know about condom efficacy? I'm not qualified 😅
Good to see your ok and doing some prep work which cant be a bad thing. Stay safe you two.
What was your learning curve for sailing before you felt confident enough to do it on your own? I am considering a similar move.
what @rhirwin10 said. Get a hand sensor, check everything, then replace the old sensor. and Ditto on the connectors. When the solenoid valve goes bad again, you make your connection for the new solenoid where it's easy to work instead of being bent over a hole. You can then simply screw that half of the water tight connector together. Loved the cooking! and the recipe. Thank you.
very well done! So much so, it will be our next Out Island destination. Thank you.
@@wanderingnomad6142 thank you! We love this island! Definitely worth the trip. And the locals are so friendly!!!
For the LP gas sensor I would move it higher away from the floor. Also make sure your battery voltage is good while you are cooking and no pump, compressor, or anything drops it. Next up is to replace the sensor, but for peace of mind I would get a second cheap detector to just make sure there is no leak.
Brave wearing a white shirt for a bilge bonanza.
Get a combustible gas Detector $8.47 Temu it work great
@@jameskahl9546 we borrowed one from a friend on the dock. Looks like a bad sensor unit. Follow up to come!
Do you all have a email?
@@jameskahl9546 yup! PDGAdventures@gmail.com
My experience has been that propane sensors have a lifetime of between 3 -10 years and then become contaminated and unreliable. They are designed to fail "safely" ie. false positives of a propane leak. I would also check the wiring schematics for your Trident controller - it is not atypical to have two sensors -one at a low point by the galley stove and the other one in the propane tank cabinet or below it. The second one to catch leaking gas from the diaphragm, valve assemblies or solenoid. Two other tips is that by code you should use "Yellow" teflon tape vs "White" teflon tape. The yellow tape is approx. 3x thicker than white. What can be leak tight for hydraulic tights can be marginal for gases. BTW it does not escape me that you removed white teflon tape from the original or previous installation. Test your gas connections with soapy water or "Snoop". Small gas leaks can be insidious. T Two other inputs: (1) Many RV components are sold as "Marine" components -the only difference being 3X the price to the hapless sailor. Trident and Magma et al. shame on you.!! (2) I used to use marine heat shrink electrical connectors, when they don't work or fail you cut them out, restrip the wire and use a new one. The problem is that with each issue the wire lengths get shorter and shorter and shorter. I have now gone to Deutsch connectors which are considerably more expensive but they are completely waterproof and I have never had one fail. The money is well worth my peace of mind. If I have a spare component at the time I do a fix with Deutsch connectors I put a Deutsch connector of the same type on the spare. If the component ever fails, I can just plug and play the spare. The difference in quality is insane. Grand Prix and the US Military use them as reliability beatscost. Kudos for going after issues not directly in your knowledge wheelhouse. I'm shocked at how many people break out the credit card and aren't even curious.
Seems as though the sensor has reached its life expediency and needs to be replaced. They do expire. Or, you DO have a LP gas leak. It seems as if you only open the LP solenoid when you are using the stove. MAYBE, you have a leak and the leak accumulates at the floor level after it has been on awhile. I suggest leaving the LP on even while you are NOT using it and see if the detector activates. Love your videos.
@@wmmoran We were finally able to get the panel back on and led the solenoid "on" for a couple of days, no issues. A friend let us borrow a gas detector and we have checked all around the boat with nothing detected. We were making dinner tonight actually and bingo, sensor goes off. We opened up the sensor and the copyright date on the circuit board was 2005? Not sure if that means anything but all roads seem to be pointing to bad sensor. Follow up coming soon!
My wife & I have been watching your videos for sometime What were your steps to being able to live a carefree lifestyle so that you could travel on your boat? We are also debt free. My wife and I are almost 60 years old. We would like to quit our jobs and move to Wyoming, and travel. We live in Colorado now. How do we make money so we can enjoy the care free life just like you are doing? Thank you for your advice & encouragement,
Thank you! We are so glad you've been enjoying our adventures! We want to first apologize for mis-representing the sailing lifestyle, it is certainly not carefree. :) While we chase the beauty life has to offer, this has also been the most stressful and scary thing we've ever done. It's challenging for RUclips channels to capture this experience without sounding overdramatic or sounding like complaints. It's simply a harder life than it looks. Our carefree nature is built into our personalities. We spent a few years with intense focus on saving and investing before we took the leap to quit our jobs and travel full time. We also figure we can go back to work if needed. RUclips is certainly not a reliable income source and the workload feels like a full-time job. There are other ways people make money while traveling/ sailing and we suggest you get creative with your skills to offer freelance work online or along the way. I've heard of traveling hairdressers, scuba divers who clean hulls, or waitresses who work in different towns along their journey. There is also opportunities to be employed by a company who allows you to work remotely and this is happening more and more since Covid. I hope this helps a little. There are opportunities out there and once you decide what you are willing to do I am sure an opportunity will present itself. Please keep up posted! We would love to hear about your travels!
The food looked delicious, I hope Paige washed her hands after the bilge cleaning before she tucked into her grub
It was so good! And yes, we washed up before dinner. lol
@@pdgadventures ok be safe it lot fun watching your video
Are you able to get new lower ends and not even bothering with the inspector? How old is the rigging and what grade of stainless steel is it? It may just be time to replace it. I just had to get new chainplates. Great job. Stay safe.
Yes and yes, but because of this issue we want to have someone go up the mast and give a really close look at all the bits. The upper diamond stays were supposedly replaced about a year prior to our purchase and the initial survey didn't seem to be worried, but surveyors don't catch everything...

You're the second or third person who has recommended him, will definitely be giving him a call!
I obviously didn't see this vid before the virtual meeting, which was great by the way, I thought you did ok on the paddle boards especially if that was your first time, as for the ice cream salted caramel for me please, The sun shades look great, so you don't have to take extra pics for me now. I would love to do more virtual meets, but I also appreciate its us looking in at you guys and that may be intrusive, anyway stay safe

I LOVE Winston!!! Thanks for the video. We are getting ready to move aboard an old yacht with our 4 dogs, so we're always interested in how other boaters make it work. Looking forward to watching your videos and following along with your adventures.

Can you rig some sort of self supporting shelving that still allows you to access your starboarf motor for fuel and oil checks... and that allows you to reach the back of the bed and side shelves? Access is key to making it work .. netting to stop things comming off the shelves onto the bed or floor.🫣
Great idea! We think on that to find a better solution!
I would definitely like to visit and how to learn a catamaran I took a ride on one of them before and I loved it how much do you guys charge for someone cruising with you guys
Thank you! We don't charge to have friends on board!!! We may set up an opportunity to take people out in the future, but not at this time. We occasionally will bring our pledged patrons out for a trip if we're in the same area. Where are you located?

Love the coffee idea. I have beans from Sri Lanka, turned to my wife and asked if we have a popcorn popper? Immediately I realized an Air Fryer would do the same thing, and sure enough, someone wrote an article on how to do it. You guys do such a great job showing the mechanics of sailing, cooking, and living on the boat. I've learned more from you than any of the other half dozen or more RUclipsr sailors I have followed. Thank you so much for letting us into your adventures!
Wow, we can't tell you how much that means to us. We strive to make our videos fun and informative, and give a real picture of life on the water. It certainly isn't always pretty. Please keep us updated about how well the air fryer works for your Sri Lanka beans! We don't have an air fryer onboard (our storage space is minimal) but I'm sure many people do!
Oh so we have a invitation to visit, I'll sleep on the bed with the spare sails etc you don't to put yourself out for me,I've slept in a lot of worse places, I don't think Daniel makes you keep your clothes in a different location because of Winston, but thats a subject for another time, really entertaining vid and very nice to invite us all to look around your home, and being honest about the bits you don't like. You guys keep up the good work, enjoy yourselves and stay safe
Thank you Harry! We will be happy to move the sails out of the way when you come visit!
You watch Star Trek on the bridge folks. Steps away from the stellar salon.
Lol, and to think we've been doing it wrong this whole time! 😆 We should just rename our salon to the bridge and it would sound so fancy! Of course that goes with our sail loft (guest cabin) and walk-in pantry (other guest cabin)!
Most of the world use metric. 85mph = 137kph
Ah, yes! Thank you for the translation. We will strive to be better about including that information. It's funny when we talk to anyone else in the world about distance or temperature because we realize that even though we are both speaking English we have different languages, cultures and experiences... It seems that we're getting a bit philosophical, sorry!
Gday Another quote from Australia is "give it some herbs" Btw I'm binge watching from the start after seeing the last two episodes.
Lol, thank you! Our early vids are very unpolished but it's all a part of the journey and we wouldn't change a thing. With Daniels culinary background, we love "give it some herbs"! After all, who doesn't like a little extra spice to life?!

Your right! It only goes forward and backwards so really not that much!
Wow!! 4gears some shims what's the big deal???
I know right?! Some people go crazy with hate on the sail drive but it's just a few gears and shims!
Dumb question…. Why are you not allowed to “work on your boat” when you are on the hard?
It is entirely dependent on the boat yard you are in. In this case, Thunderbolt Marina does not allow DIY. As to the why? Couldn't tell you. Off the top of my head: insurance laibility (people getting hurt on their property), environmental concerns (people not cleaning up properly and/or disposing of stuff improperly), time/space considerations (DIY usually takes significantly longer than professional work). Just a few thoughts that come to mind.
@@pdgadventures Yes these possible problems do make sense. I guess I have been watching cat cruisers for years now and this is the first time I have heard this. Although, most doing DIY stuff on these channels are “on the hard” locations outside of the US. I do enjoy your channel very much. Your calm and relaxed presentation without drama and pearl clutching just makes it that much more real for me, even when there are weather or other concerns. Where are you headed to next.
@@geoffcooper1300 there are many yards in the US that offer DIY, but most of the ones we found (that could haul us) were in south Florida. Thank you for the lovely compliment! We do very much try to keep it authentic to the situation, and there are some situations were 💩 hits the fan but we just try and roll with it and see it as a learning experience. We're back in Fernandina (north Florida) for now. More work to get ready for the next cruising season!

Why dont you call the life lines jack lines and the jack lines life lines 🤔 that could work 😊
