Dont spread the silicon. Leave it 3/8" high so it squashes on contact. and try to reproduce the pattern it was on originally
@@roga8681 we spread the silicone on the glass in order to replace the paint that was on the glass originally. We also put the silicone on the hull which we did not spread. This was probably between 3/8" and 1/2" thick at application. Definitely not spreading on the hull.
There is a glazing removal knife available at most automotive stores. It is short and has a 90 degree turn in blade with a further 3/4 inch of blade so you can cut the silicon quite easily. you need to see it as im not good at explaining.
@@roga8681 these hull windows definitely need something longer than 3/4" blade to get to all the sika that was used to mount it. Unfortunately I think we're stuck with the wire on the hull windows. The salon windows however (coming soon!) would be a good application for this, but we were able to get them off with the tools we had on hand as well less the wire.
Glass is weakest lying down, always stand on edge where possible.
@@roga8681 good to know! Thanks for the pro tip
You guys are awesome. This was an amazing video. Thank you for sharing your adventure. Can't wait to see how the window project turns out. Did I mention I blew up my engine head and it took over a year to get it fixed. You got this!
@@thorn3377 oh man! No you didn't mention that!!! We will be back soon to finish this project. We need to get a beer and lament our boating woes 😁
Try taping off the window with gorilla tape around the perimeter. Perpendicular to the seams. Good Luck with whatever to do.
That's a great call for that set up. We've since upgraded to the plastic drop cloth we used to make the templates and gorilla tape. We're movin' on up! 🤣
I'd (Geri) have cried. Just the other day when one of our 10,000 refit projects was going really poorly, I pretty much lost it. Good luck getting the new window sorted out. Great idea to make templates of all the windows...just in case!
Not gonna say there weren't copious amounts alcohol consumed that evening 🤣🤣😭😭. But seriously it was just so shocking we didn't know how to respond. Luckily it seems we have a good plan moving forward. See you next week!
the glass broke because somewhere the glass was pricked, so it exploded
@@diyreporpused7116 best we can tell (and if you listen very closely you can hear it in the video) I (Daniel ) tapped the corner of the pane against one of the concrete pillars of the dock. There was a short *boooong* sound that preceded the epic shattering of the window, and in hindsight it's the best explanation we have. Thanks for watching and hope to see you back again soon!
takillya have fixed many of my problems... Or as at least makes them go away until I don't care ;)
@@captnmcq totally get that. We have called it our "Give a f**k list". When phrased like that it's fairly simple to decide what gets done and in which order 😂
I am so sorry you have had trouble but I laugh at the fact that when Winston got cut you went to the vet, but when Paige gets cut you improvise. Anyhow it looks like she is OK. Looks no worse than a common kitchen cut. I am curious why that window broke. I hope you do a follow-up when and if you find out. Very interesting video, I like how you both handled it. Thank you.
A good sailor's gotta pivot right?! Paige is doing great, cut is healing better than anything I've (Daniel) ever seen in a kitchen and it sure was a good one! Definitely should have had a stitch or two. Regarding the window, best we can tell (and if you listen very closely you can hear it in the video) I, again Daniel here, tapped the corner of the pane against one of the concrete pillars of the dock. There was a short *boooong* sound that preceded the epic shattering of the window, and in hindsight it's the only logical explanation. Thanks for watching and hope to see you back again soon!
How you didn't explode when the window went I don't know, I'm sure in a few weeks looking back you will laugh but in the moment so very well done for holding it together. Still if you are having a new one that side why not just smash the other side out and have 2 brand new windows so they match and look so pretty. lol. Sorry to see that you've cut your finger, are you sure it wasn't Daniel getting angry for his window mistake and is taking out on you
@@Harry-bh5dg it was a miracle I (Daniel) didn't just have a Chernobyl level meltdown! Considering the time it's taken thus far just to get a new window on order (going on 8 weeks now) I really can't recommend breaking another one...
Any little imperfection could weaken tempered glass. Probably would have broken anyhow when you tried to get the 5200 off of it. If it's 5200 I would just try to seal up the caulk on the remaining windows instead of removing them.
@@thorn3377 very true! But I think (and I also think the camera caught the sound of it) I (Daniel) may actually have bumped the corner of it on one of the concrete pillars. It was incredibly gentle if I did, but right place, right time eh? Oof....
Sorry you had such a tough time crabbing. Dungeness crabs love clams for bait. Chicken legs are a decent second choice. We usually crab in about 30ft. I sure miss the PNW, especially since we've been out of the water for the last 5 months with no plans to get back in the water until May/June.
@@SailingRoam We were in generally 30ft-ish but chicken seems to be the answer. But having less than optimal chicken on a sailboat...oof no thanks! 🤣🤣🤣 We too have spent far too much time on repairs and maintenance this summer. Hopefully we make the Bahamas before the new year...
Sorry for your bad luck crabbing, but you are using the wrong bait and are not deep enough. Try using fish heads or stinky chicken and the deeper you go the bigger the crab. Good luck next time when you come back west.
@@r52euphoria live and learn right?! Down here in the southern US they fish for blue crab in what seems like anything from wading depth to 50+ft. As for bait, who knows but we've definitely heard stinky chicken. Can't wait to get back up there!
do you think someone raided your traps?
@@drmaggietherapy haha, probably not unless it was one of the cute furry kind!
Apparently each time you bring the crab bait up it should be changed, some great views that with some really interesting light and snow capped hills would make superb pics, Really nice vid, I bet Winston is missing you guys. Are you missing your own boat. Take care stay safe.
We did add several more cans but making it fresh each time probably wouldn't have hurt! We were definitely missing home and Winston by the end of it all. We started our sailing adventures as monohull folks but I think we may be catamaran people now! 🤣🤣🤣
Looks awesome! What time of year did you visit?
@@pstive we're so glad you like it! We were there the first week of September 2024 and we understand that the waterfall is bigger in the spring.
Just stunning! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your chartering adventure.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! It's a hoot for sure. We seem to have a skill at making the easy look hard and vice versa maybe? No, probably not, haha!
As former PNWers, we LOVE Desolation Sound. Seriously the most beautiful cruising grounds. Anchoring and stern tying there can be really tricky. Thanks for the views of the humpbacks. I love them so much I have a fluke tattooed on my arm, along with a seal. Enjoy the wildlife!!
We are so glad we got to see those humpbacks - they are so majestic! And, yes, the whole area seems to be such a secret to the rest of the world. Stern trying is truly an art, maybe even more than docking? Nah, docking will always be hard 🤪
The waterfall looked superb, I would love to take pics of it, the water certainly looked inviting but chilly. Stay safe
@@Harry-bh5dg yes, yes, and yes! It was such an awesome place. We can totally understand why people go back all the time. We hear that in the spring the sheer amount of waterfalls from all the snow melting is incredible
Looks like you two are having fun in all kinds of places.
We try our best! Boat work can only go on for so long....
So much fun!
We loved every second (except the crunching ones)! We're so extra drop the next episode tomorrow!!!
That’s our friends old boat, they sold her in 2020. We’ve had a lot of great meals on-board and cruised with them (on our own boat) through Mexico. Great boat and fast.
@@r52euphoria that's awesome! Yes, she was very fast when we had the chance to sail her. We enjoyed our time on board but I think we're catamaran people now! 😆
🤣
👍
I love the sailing videos!
We do too!!! So good to get away from projects and out on the water even if just for a little while.
My back yard
@@steveironside7255 care to trade? 😆
@@pdgadventures I live in municipality of Vancouver and when I was young I fish commercially our coast from Vancouver to Alaska and did some recreational boating in Desolation sound and water around .
@@steveironside7255 it's such a beautiful area. Watching this again makes us antsy to get back!
So your tank does not completely empty, you just need to dilute and empty the bottom of the tank. When you rinsed, add 10 gallons, empty, repeat that 3 or 4 times which is fast, then do a complete fill and rinse to clean the walls. That should leave you with no taste or smell and be faster than 5 full fill and rinse cycles…
@@MichaelCollins-the-other-fella that's a great idea for the next time we run into this kinda situation. Thanks for the advice!
May be you guys should change your water filters
Done and done!
Do you find that the yellow brush works better on the NON skid than the white one?
Hard to say, need to do more research 🤣
Don't know if this will work in a boat but in our caravan water system we run baby sterilisation tablets through it several times a year to keep it clean certainly seems to work for us
That's a great idea! We will give that a shot
It's boat just like a car something always break. Something will go wrong but we do it because we love it. Great video
Boat ownership is just doing maintenance in exotic places right?! Personally looking forward to the exotic places part 🤣🤣🤣
That place is awesome I go there a lot
It's a great park, wish we could've spent more time
Depending on where you are moored, you may have to do this more frequently. We're in the Chesapeake and our friend (we haven't installed AC yet) cleans out the AC unit almost every week. Hopefully your AC will work much better now.
@@SailingRoam yes, it works much better now. We clean the raw water filter daily, and we installed the system to make it easier to do in the future. I think it has helped extend the life of the AC unit all together.
How did yo make it through hurricane?
@@jameskahl9546 all good! We were/are in a great spot for that storm. Most wind we saw was right at 40kn but it stayed sustained in the upper 20s- low 30s from about 1am to 3am. Nothing we haven't ridden out on anchor before.
New subscriber here. Love the content, looking forward to seeing more.
@@CTJonathan333 awesome! Welcome to the adventure. 😁
Looks like you did a great job. I like how you used smaller hose to adapt the hose barb. Barnacle buster is a bit expensive. Not sure what the shelf life is but I always save it in a 5 gal bucket for another project later on. Don't like the worm gear hose clamps. I have started a new hobby of replacing mine with T-bolt hose clamps. Sizing is more critical but much better hold and they don't strip out.
Hadn't seen the hose clamps you mentioned but they certainly look like an improvement that will soon make its way into our inventory! No kidding on the price of the stuff, had we thought we may have saved it...next time I guess 😁
Seems like the old dog is learning new tricks, at least your cool now
@@Harry-bh5dg he never ceases to surprise us on something new he's taught us to do. He's a fantastic trainer 🤣!
he's playing fetch with you! what a smart dog!
He is a sweet boy and often demands our attention. But we don't mind giving it to him. :)
Looks like you had a great time sailing with Rudy. He is always very friendly and professional. Met him on the docks a few times. Glad to see you are keeping up to date on your video editing. My backlog is two years. I need to get editing.
It was a great trip! Lots of learning and opportunities to learn. Nothing beats sea miles. And, yeah, editing, oof! We have enlisted some help with it but it's still one of the biggest parts of the whole thing!
Nice vid, I bet you noticed the difference in stability and room between the 2 vessels. Paige you should of jumped in the sea, although iI am not sure what would off happened to it. Not sure it looked fun with little cover when it was raining. The pics of the cloud formation were stunning. stay safe and have fun.
Oh yes, very much so. We definitely decided that catamarans are the future for us, but monohulls are lots of fun. The rain storm was absolutely amazing for the pictures and we are so glad they came out as well as they did! Look forward to seeing more of yours as well!
hat nicht viel mit Seemannschaft zu tun - im Rock und Perlenkette - vermutlich nur unter Deck und wenns schöner wird - possieren - ganz schlecht.
Sorry to disappoint you? The skirt and pearls stay on regardless and have nothing to do with seamanship. Thanks for stopping by!
@@pdgadventures - I told you - it has nothing to do with seamanship!
When y'all go to Deltaville Virginia? Let me know. I would like to meet you and have dinner
Points north may be another season we still have so much to do to get ready for our next Bahamas excursion! And as for next spring/summer? Who knows?!? We barely can keep 8 weeks out a solid plan, haha! 😆
I see you did the first portion of that trip with Tony from Windward Sailing, that should be called out, as he is an excellent captain and instructor - as you both know very well. ;-) Nice video as usual, best of luck, we should catch up at some point.
We sure did and Tony was great! I thought we made a point of it but if we didn't we'll definitely reiterate in the description!
Wow. I am in this video 3 times. 🚣♂ 🤣 Looks like you had a real adventure helping deliver Windwards boat. Can't wait to see her doing charters up this way. Edit: The marina puts the washer and dryer in the captains lounge when a hurricane is coming in case the laundry room floods.
Lol! Thanks for the cameos! Yeah, we talked to the guys (after the fact 🤣) and that what they said. But considering how high the laundry is we would have much bigger problems if it got to that point!
Daniel"thrilled".... movie line? super green?
Ding-ding-ding!!!
I really admire your grit. What you do would be very frightening to me, so watching you gives me a vicarious sailing experience.❤ ❤❤❤
Wow, thank you! This is definitely a game of grit and determination. Not for everyone that's for sure!
Nice Vid, well at least now you know the deep blue sea sailing isn't for you, I suppose there is a huge difference between and catamaran and a single hull anyway, Our dog (Maggie) also hates the rain and normally refuses to go anywhere if it raining, looks like you all got pretty wet in it though. We also hate leaving Maggie when we go away and we are about to go for 2 weeks away and leaving her behind wont be easy. you guys stay safe
Well, at least for now the big blue is on hold. Winston needs a little more stability than an ocean crossing can provide. But I think with the right crew and maybe with a rally we may make the jump. Or we could just do what others have recently done and put our little boat on a big boat? 🤔
We have friends who are very experienced sailors, and they have a motto, "a gentleman never sails to wind". Yes, they're Brits! Choosing your conditions does not mean you're not sailors, it makes you smart. Also, finding what works for sea sickness is a very personal thing. We use meclizine starting 12-24 hours before departure and every 8 hours while underway. I (Geri) only take 1/2 dose because otherwise I'm really sleepy. For active nausea/vomiting, ondansetron is great for me, and useless for Shawn. It's a prescription med, but very safe. Most MDs will happily prescribe it for you if you tell them your plans. Also, ginger (chews, tea, etc) is great for nausea, and I'm planning to get Shawn a Relief Band (electric pulse) to try. Good luck finding your best solution.
It's crazy how the ick creeps up on you. We're finding that when the seas are aft of the beam it hits harder. That being said pounding into it is a beating for both ship and crew. 100% agree on finding the right weather window, but sometimes ya just gotta go and deal with it. Having experienced it does make it better in hindsight, not a lot of fun at the time though.
Great video guys!
Glad you enjoyed it! We love visits from the "no-drama llama" and want to make sure we keep it that way!
AAA+++ Well Done storm prep.
Thank you kindly!
