MOTION DUCKS DECOY SPREADER - JUNK?
#duckhunting #ducks #decoys #hunting #outdoors #motion
In this video, I show you how to set up, use, and pack up the Motion Ducks Decoy Spreader. This spreader is a great alternative to the typical jerk rigs that move in a linear motion. It gives your decoys a more realistic look and is, in my opinion, easier to use. If you're looking for a way to add a little realism to your decoy spread, this is definitely worth checking out.

    What is the difference toTrolling Reel?

    • @Boykinoutdoors
      @Boykinoutdoors Месяц назад

      It’s smaller and more compact and most of the jogging reels have a super high Max drag weight, which allows you to get a fish off the bottom before they take you to a ledge or structure. You could probably do it with a trolling reel, but it’s going to be heavy and uncomfortable.

      I’ve used my Boykin in icy waters, she never quits or seems to mind. Obviously they get cold like all other dogs do but i think they do fine for my purposes. Make sure they have a vest and just dry them off when you’re done before the boat ride back and that has seemed to work for me!

    You provided a really good startup guide for me as Im just starting to get into offshore fishing. I found a penn squall 30 VSW and shimano tld 30 for excellent prices. Do you recommend 2 speed reels for offshore fishing even if youre only using 30lb mono and 10lb of drag at the most? Didnt want anything too heavy so stuck with graphite reels and max drag was higher and so was the line capacity.for both of those reels in the 2 speed version. Will these be ok for trolling?

    • @Boykinoutdoors
      @Boykinoutdoors Месяц назад

      I highly suggest 2 speed reels. We have had wahoo hook up where on the single speed you can’t gain any ground. The second speed really ups your odds of getting the fish in. For us who fish a small boat and smaller setups i suggest more line capacity. You can do this with a braid backing which is thinner diameter and then your mono as a top shot. More line capacity allows for a looser drag because you don’t have to worry about stopping the run before your spooled. Let them run! The last thing you want to do is have to tighten your drag on a big fish and the line pops. My personal preference is to try to fight the fish in with my drag in the strike position if possible and never have to tighten up. It’s a fine line, but the more you do it the better you get at knowing when drag is too much or too little !

  • @msb2948
    @msb2948 7 месяцев назад

    They are great little dogs for moderate waterfowling on small water but they definitely lack the horse power for really big water and harsh frozen hunts. One really has to be honest on how they use their dogs and the fairness that each breed and even line of breed deserves. I wish I could find a Chessi level breed that could also handle 100 degrees plus dove hunts and the below zero goose hunts.

    • @Boykinoutdoors
      @Boykinoutdoors Месяц назад

      I agree to an extent. I’ve had my dog on some really cold hunts and really warm hunts. I’ve never seen my dog quit or act like it ever bothered her. But yes to your point i 100% agree that using the dog honestly and humanely is correct. There is a limit for every dog and the handler must make the responsible call in that situation.

    • @Boykinoutdoors
      @Boykinoutdoors Месяц назад

      I think Boykins are one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever been around personally. If you work with the dog and do it correctly i think you could get the basics. You probably won’t see top field trial like actions, but who cares if the dog goes and gets the bird and brings it back and is happy. That’s all that matters!

    Enjoy the show. Am a Canadian, not a hunter but love the breed! Got Dickens eight years ago - and we never looked back! As I said, while I’m not a hunter, he and I compete in Rally Obedience trials and he is so very smart! If I am not on my game he is- and he’s never not (on HIS game)! He keeps me honest. At the same time, he’s always My Boy! He knows me better than I know myself. When we’re competing, and I am off my game, he takes charge. He’s so smart, knows all the competition manoeuvres, steps in and rescues me! As my instructor /trainer often says “Dickens is so smart - and energetic- when you’re competing, your key job is just him going too fast”! He wants to do every job at hyper speed. At the same time, he loves everyone- kids, other dogs, total strangers. Good thing too. I live in a high rise with over two hundred and forty units and people of all ages. Dickens is from Texas, from a kennel in a rural area. The owners breed and train their dogs to be versatile with an emphasis on hunting. I love him and he, me. I heard an expression recently that what he is to me. He’s my Heart Dog. Couldn’t ask for more! Saw your show for the first time and enjoyed it. Keep on talking Boykin and LBD, and you’ve got my attention. Keep it up! Mike Fullerton, BC, Canada

      We run 40 and 50 lb mono with a braid backing that’s around 80’. Long as you have your drag set correctly, you shouldn’t have any issues unless you hook a marlin or similar larger species. You also have to be aware of toothy critters as well and run wire or heavy mono for a leader.

I got my second one, Marley, from “Just Ducky Kennels, in Edgefield, SC. She was equally adept at dove and duck hunting, and was a great loving pet too. Marley lived to 17 years old! Because of health reasons, I haven’t gotten another pup. Sometimes it breaks my heart not having a Boykin anymore. I miss hunting over them and their companionship! Both of my girls were on the smaller side being just under 25 pounds, but they both had huge hearts.
