learn how to harvest and plant different varieties of willow
Dear Beth, I just wanted to take a moment and let you know how much your videos are appreciated! I live in the mt.s of Eastern USA. And grow willows here on a budding cut flower farm I started back in 2016. And grow willow for arrangements, biomass, fencing and structures. And love when your videos come across my feed❤. I hope you are able to continue to make more. As those of us that love you, really do look for more you can teach and encourage us to keep on truckin' on❤😊❤. Happy New Year!!!🎉❤🎉
Thank you so much. Awesome job
Nice. Approximately of each type of willow did you use?
Where can reed be found/bought for making the crosses?
Thank you. I am just starting his journey.
Beautiful! Very inspiring
Very interesting. Thank you
What kind of reeds are or can be used?
That was brilliant, going trying a couple of arches to practice, thanks, your brilliant
Beth, thank you so very much! I've watched a number of interesting videos about (basket) willow, trying to gain clarity about harvesting it, and not only has yours made that clear, it gave me the great boon of learning that I can "reinvest" my harvest to grow additional plants!!! And I've followed your instructions here in Vermont, in mid-March, and I'm very excited to see what comes of it. Thank you, thank you!
umm
Could you continue this until you made a square mat?
Thank you for this tutorial. We are celebrating Imbolc a bit late this year and I have been looking for an easy to follow tutorial. Blessings~~~Lady A ~~~
thanks Happy Eve Saint Brigid
best one thanks
This reminds me of The Witcher 3 somehow...
Lovely! I deeply appreciate your voice over narration instead of expecting us to hear you through the wind. Brilliant!
I enjoyed a lot your vidéo, thanks

nice pedagogy! I was wondering how the top was held together on these willow domes! thanks
Hello from Washington State, United States. Thank you for this tutorial! I’ve been watching many Willow weaving tutorials so I can learn how to weave the basketry willow that I’m growing. You are an excellent teacher.

Thank you Beth for another great video, it's astounding that there are over 500 varieties of willow. It's amazing how quickly it grows too. Best wishes

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Beth, and in a way that is easy to understand. Best wishes
How very cool Beth!
Beth I'm excited, we finished planting up our willows today and they have buds on them coming! They are all bareroot not cuttings like yours. I can't wait to try new things with willow, especially maybe I'll create a living structure someday!
Genial 💘
Thank you for such a helpful video! I will watch your other video next. We finally have a property that we can call our own and I'm so excited that we had an order of willow delivered yesterday and we'll start planting out today. They are bareroot and nice long stems so I will cut them this winter I guess for coppicing. I'm just learning so any advice is welcome. Is it ok to cut them this coming winter?
Hi Mary I plant 30 cm length and pencil thickness or thicker cuttings and i coppice every year, unless i want to have 2yr old rods. i coppice from end of november to mid march.
@@bethmurphy903 Thank you Beth, I've been writing notes all about coppicing etc. and I'll make sure I note that down. We have two existing willows growing just far enough apart I thought they'd look cool as an arch. (They are still quite young) So we planted a few more in line with them today so they will form a short tunnel arch ( I hope!) I can' wait to get creative with them and underplant maybe with primrose.
Hi Beth, I'm so glad I found your video. I've been given my partner's willow circle to reshape and decided on a dragon, been looking for some tips on a living willow one but couldn't find anything until this. Your approach, partly abstract, is perfect and you totally inspired me. This is what I'm going to aim for... Thank you! (Hana in Cornwall)
yes this was something that evolved over the years, thats what i really love about living willow sculptures they are always changing into something new.
@@bethmurphy903 yes and a dragon is a perfect metaphor for that ☺
Thank you for such an informative video. I am hoping to create a growing fence/structure this year. It wil be easier with your videos. 🙏 I love the sound of birds 🤍
I love them Beth absolutely incredible … thank you for inspiring me xx

Wonderful Beth , are you based in Ireland ?
yes I am.
Beth, what an amazing sculpture!!!! Did you use any metal supports to build this? Or is it just the older growth holding it's shape? I LOVE IT!!! I am a new willow grower and just found your channel today:)! I live across the pond from you;). The big pond that is;).
thank you. just the head has a light steel frame.
Thanks 😊
your welcome 💚
Well done Beth, another great video, RTE Nationwide was on during the week and highlighted Monasterevin and the nuns making St Brigid's crosses, next year as you know, we will have a new Bank holiday on St Brigid's day and I am sure many many a St Brigid's cross will be made.
Thank you Jimmy, hope all is well with Jean and yourself. Delighted the women are getting a look in with our new bank holiday.
