Is the engineering of the Acratech worth the price difference, and does this give photographers a viable alternative at a lower price? Thank you. I have very nice ball heads from RRS, Kirk Photo, and Markins, and nice fluid heads from Manfroto and Benro, but not a simple pan and tilt head for landscape. Was looking at Acratech so your Leophoto option tweaked my curiosity. Will give it a look. Take care.
Follow up. Found another head from SunwayFoto that is even cheaper and I think it actually built better than the LeoFoto. Also the SunwayFoto DT-03S was $79 on Amazon, compared to the LeoFoto of $175 on Amazon. The SunwayFoto does not have a spirit level but my LeoFoto Ranger tripod LC-288CEX has one so no real deficiencies there. Take a look. Really surprised me. Thank you.
What none of them have, is a big enough leveler bubble. I find most gear doesn't. Should've been built in a lot bigger, so it's A LOT easier to level. I mean, they obviously think accuracy is important, as they have grades and position markings on the whole head. both of them. And that is too sloppy for the price.
@@krimke881 I've had no issues
I like my Kase filters. I didn’t get a white nylon tool you showed, so I’ll have to contact Kase.
I just got one I paired with a Fujifilm X-T4 (40MP). Beautiful lens. Versatile focal range. I have done some test shots. Great color. Great Focus, Even sweet bokeh. I have done landscapes, nature closeups, people and portraits. I'm very happy with the lens. Paired with a mirrorless camera it makes them easy to carry for distance. Of course, that focal range makes it a lens that can meet almost all of your needs.
Hi David, thanks for sharing this viseo. Is there any click or any signal in the Acratech head for when the upper head is at 90 degrees and you don´t have to look at the scale marked in the arms? For instance panning at night and not having to turn on the head lamp. Thanks for answering
@@josema-delatorre there aren't any click stops. I used to just do 15 degrees, but that does require looking at the head.
I have the Acratech, and the clincher for me is the ability to quickly and easily change the top clamp orientation. I do this constantly going from the camera cage to the foot of a long lens. And regarding over tightening the knob for that, the way this is designed the tolerances are so nice and tight that you need only to finger tighten that knob and it is rock solid. If it is too hard to loosen then you are at fault, not the knob.
Nice❤
Go to about 9min in the video to learn about the doing the update.
I am so tempted to buy this lens for my A6400 to replace a variety of other lenses that I have that cover the range of this one lens
@CampervanTales I keep it attached to my a6600, especially when I am limited on lens size, but I need the versatility
What if you use a step up ring? My lens has a 82mm thread and I’m using a 82-95mm step up ring (Ive ordered the 95mm ND revolution filters to prevent vignetting) do I even need the inlaid ring? Because A the inlaid ring will just stick to the step up ring (can’t tighten it because there’s nothing to screw) and B all the filters will just snap onto the step up ring itself. And what’s the meaning of the adapter ring that comes with it? I’m so confused 😅
So my understanding is that with the Revolution series step up rings don't really work. There is space beyond the inlaid ring that you can use an adapter, or step up ring for either the traditional Wolverine filters or for instance the Close Up filter. I have found that even with 17mm filters I get no vignetting with the inlaid ring as it sits so far into the lens front.
thanks for the vid... just got one for only 135 US on Amazon. I have a tiny tripod and an extra large then a massive one but needed something solid but portable, this looks like the ticket!
ah... very interesting and I am so pleased I saw this video.. thank you.

How many elements does this filter have?
@lesberkley3821 I have been trying to find that information, but I am going to guess at least 2. The weight is substantial, and it is probably at least a 1/2 inch thick. The multi coating is great.
Informational, thanks David!!
The best Combi is 365 cex Puls G4 Pro great Video thanks.
The better head is Leofoto G4 pro.
Thanks for the very informative video. I am looking at getting the PG-1 and LB-65 leveling base. Everything that I have read and watched indicates that the PG-1 is a very good value. I have an LS-284C tripod. I know it may be a bit on the light side. I also have a Bogen 3021. Its a beast. Okay if I am not moving around a lot. I believe that the PG-1 should work on either one. Early in the video you mentioned that you liked to have the pan and tilt control knobs on the right side. I don't recall seeing the reason for that. Can you enlighten us? Thanks!
@bentleydawg8573 thanks, it is just easier for me to reach my lens zoom ring and switches with the knows positioned on the right.
@@davidakoubian3025 Ah yes, that makes perfect sense. And I just ordered my PG-1. 🙂
A little late to the game but I thought it's worth mentioning that the Leofoto VH-30R (which I own) has a rotating Arca clamp on top. Orienting the clamp fore and aft or port and starboard is effortless.
Hello, sir! Is it possible to connect several such cetnral columns to each other to get a longer column?
They have 3/8 screws and 3/8 receiver, so I don't see why it couldn't be done.
@@davidakoubian3025 Nice. So I dont need ordinary big tripod anymore as I can attach this columns to each other.
@PlayGameToday the big tripod will definitely be more stable though.

Hi David, nice video. But just assume I have a friend who’s having trouble getting an inlaid ring out from a Nikkor 135mm lens. He recently got his first set of Kase filters, in practising their insertion / removal he fitted the ring easily just as you describe. In trying to remove it he used the 3D ring tool, got it engaged on the inlaid ring with no problem, but then was unable to turn it. He applied a little pressure and it started to unscrew, but then became stuck. The inlay now looks slightly skewed - misthreaded. How would you proceed to remove it from here on?
In the past, when I would have a filter get stuck, I would put the entire lens in a freezer for a little while. The metal should contract and loosen it up. Try gently going in bothe directions to see if it frees it.
Thanks David. I tried that today. There was only slight movement of the ring. I’m now at the stage of feeling any more straining on the ring tool on my part may risk damage to the lens. I’m going to try my local Wex photo store as next step.
Thank you for effort!
This setting is truly amazing for night photography.. I had actually forgotten about it since moving into the city a couple years ago and not having close access to the beach I used to shoot astrophotography at. Slightly different from night photography, ive been looking at getting an ND1000 filter and a photographer friend of mine (a Canon shooter though, so he doesnt know about BM) kept saying youre not going to be able to see anything through the viewfinder, which made me think back on this setting which i'm almost positive would do the trick for composing shots with the ND1000.
I haven't tried it, but it should work fine with an ND filter as it is simply slowing down the refresh rate making more visible in low light. If you try it before I do, please let me know how it worked. Thanks.
that was incredible to see

It was magical to say the least. The venue, Liberty Oaks in Ada, OH, did a first class job of having food trucks and anything you needed. It sure beat camping out, which was Plan B.
i am a amateur photographer. To bad you don't show the movement you can do with this pan heads ..your opinion does not help to much
I didn't think I needed to explain the concept of a pan head...pans left and right...pretty simple. I would think a video of such a simple concept would be kind of a waste of your time.

@@michelterral5907 I haven't gone to quite 90 degrees, but I haven't had any issues.
What makes this so good for the over priced head i can't see it.
It is very well made, very precise.
I like the Revolution Kase filters, but I do have the Wolverine filters at this time. I have some pretty huge lenses and I buy one 112mm filter kit and use step up rings and use the 112 mm filters on all lenses. Pretty simple and I love them. So easy to use. A kit for me in the Revolution filters cost about $1200.00 and that's not cheap. Thanks for sharing...Peace
That is the only bad thing. The Wolverine series works so well. A $1200 expense can be tough for sure.
Ordered the Kase Revolution filters to replace my way-to-weak Freewell magnetic filters, and they are so much better. I use permanent screw in UV filters and the inset ring allows me to use any UV or Clear filter as a base for the Kase Revolutions magnetic filters. (I don’t put a UV or clear filter on the 200-600 as it affects IQ. Not so with my other lenses). The Kase Revolution magnets are strong enough, I may swap the screw in UVs for magnetic ones. Just ordered some ND100000 for the eclipse. The only issue I have come across with Kase is the CPL filter seems to scratch very easily. I’m on my second one.
I've not had any issues with scratching. Does it happen while photographing or transporting them? I used UV filters on the windy beaches in Iceland, and surprisingly, they didn't scratch.
@@davidakoubian3025 I find that while using a CPL filter with a magnetic cap, it is rather difficult to get the cap off without pulling the CPL filter off with the cap. I stack the filters for carrying like you do, and I’ve never had the bundle fall apart, so I doubt it got scratched in transit. More likely during use, but I’m not sure how.
When all else fails, read the manual. 😜
But only when all else fails...LOL!
Ok it’s been over a year now, how is the Leofoto functioning compared to the Acratech?
I've had no issues using the Leofoto. For me saving the money has been good!
@@davidakoubian3025 Excellent to know thanks. I got the Acratech but wanted to gift one of these type heads to an employee so a Leofoto may be just the ticket.
Wow, great photos. I love Iceland. What camera and settings did you use for the night shot at 08:53?
Thanks! The camera was the a6600, it should have been around 5 seconds, ISO 2500, and 18mm, f3.5 or f4.
@@davidakoubian3025Thanks for the quick reply :) I bought a second hand (low use) A6000 and a new Tamron 18-300mm. Great photo for f3.5. Everything I read suggests prime lenses for night photography and astronomy photography. Glad to see the 18-300 works well for night photos too.
I have a Acratech GV2 ballhead and the Acratech long lens/pano head. Also, the Acratech leveling head that I occasionally use with the pano head. They were pricy but worth it every dollar. I actually called Acratech when I was shopping for the pano and they had a cosmetic reject (can’t tell where) that gave me a quick significant discount. You get what you pay for.
Acratech has great stuff, but there are some folks that can't afford it. The Leofoto is a great alternative for those folks.
For me the easiest to level my camera is to have a panning clamp on my ballhead, or geared head , that way I don't even care to level my tripod, I do have leveling bas on all my tripod but I really hardly need to mess around with it, just look at the bubble level on the Panning clamp, and use the head to level it, once that's is done. I can pan all day and the camera wil remain level, makes things super easy.
Hey yo David !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Time for another new tripod review!!!!!
Could you please explain us the hack you did on the Leofoto head? I'm interested on buying it, but the issue of the orientation is critical for me
I used a hair dryer to slightly warm up the screw in the center of the base, just a little heat, then using a hex key, loosened it enough to lift the base and rotate it. I simply tightened it down after that, again not too tight. When I need to reorientate it, I simply use a hex key. You don't need to warm it after the first time. It just takes a little heat to break loose the screw.
The real difference is strength. Acratech will take 12kg. Leo will break at 6kg…. I learnt that
That's good to know, especially since my heaviest lens on the body is 6 pounds or 2.7 kg.
What did you do to break the Leofoto, I've been using one for a few years now and have to say I have found it as robust as you should ever require and as regards your 6Kg comment mine has easily supported 8-9Kg, so I can only assume you are extremely rough or heavy handed with yours. Used on an iFootage Gazelle tripod with bowl head.
@@geoffhoward2171 No, it just broke. It couldn't support the advertised weight and it broke.
