Dumore Electric hand Grinder cleanup
Hello everyone.
If you have watched the whole video then you know that I messed up and broke the blades while disassembling it. Despite that failure, it still works and that makes me feel good.
It doesn’t have too much torque. Very ideal for polishing and grinding small pieces.
I hope you find this video useful. Cheers 🥃

Hello friends. This was an easy straightforward clean up, disassembly, and re-assembly. I just don’t know what brand this push drill is. There are no markings. Hi. Unfortunately I don’t have much info, but in my opinion, replacement for the ball itself should be easy to find online. Also if you have a small broken bearings, the balls inside it might match with your anvil, depending on their sizes. Hopefully the spring inside the anvil is still there and attached.

      Thank you for your comment. I just subscribed to your channel as well. I hope you get to share your upcoming restoration with us. I still use this drill press. It’s a bit fast for the motor that I have, but man this thing can handle some rough drillings. My only issue is the bushings on the two top wheels that go under the belt, or move the belts technically. I’m thinking about upgrading it. Drill a bigger hold on the wheels and add a bearing instead of the bushings. Cheers 🍻

      A general all purpose grease should do the job, you can also use lithium grease as well. I got mine from Home Depot which is for high speed gears(Ultra Performance Grease). That’s good too.

    That came out amazing. I've rebuilt some and every now and then I'd rebuild one to this level but it would run hotter than normal. Any idea why that would be? I always figured that over the decades it had just worn itself to where it shouldn't have been opened up.

    • @VintageCraftsmanTools
      @VintageCraftsmanTools 2 месяца назад

      Thank you very much. This one was very old, and the wires were also extremely old and kind of “crispy”. I say crispy because once you moved them a bit, they’ll start to break (the wiring covers). Mine still works, but it’s good for maybe 1 hour, after that it’ll get hot. Using an oil could be another reason. In this model, you have to add oil to it every once in a while since they are supported by a brass bushings. Based on my experience, I have learned that the machines that require a constant oiling, could get hot pretty quickly after a while. I turn it on every now and then, so I can keep it operational. I have noticed that the type of oil I use has a big factor. Also what type of grease I use in the gears. But it’ll still get hot. I guess that’s how these old fans were built. I have two other smaller fans, which are less complicated but surprisingly, they work much more efficiently for longer hours than this one. Still, it’s fun to have something from the old days that is very dangerous and unsafe in today’s fan industry.

      @@VintageCraftsmanTools My Dunlap video comes out tomorrow. It was the smaller drill press and the mechanism is very basic. It was missing the motor pulley so I had to improvise but it works fine. It has a Craftsman motor on it but the press itself is inferior to the Craftsman version.

    • @VintageCraftsmanTools
      @VintageCraftsmanTools 2 месяца назад

      Thank you very much. It’s in the video at 1:18 . If it’s hard, just apply some WD-40. You should be able to remove it easily after that. It probably has some rust inside, and it is clogged. Try to open the gap between the handle and the sleeve by a thin flat screwdriver. I hope this was helpful and also I hope you are able to remove it. Just don’t use pliers, and if you do, cover the plier’s teeth with either some cold glue or piece of cloth. (Also while pushing the sleeve up, push the direction botton (that round shape piece) down. It has to go under the sleeve in order to remove it.

      Yes probably. It smells like plastic sitting on an old dirt oil for ages. Thank you for your response. I appreciate it.

    Hello, was wondering if you know if the stanley bits fit in this model. I have 2 videos where the base of the bit had a different design. Thank you...

      Hello. I have a Stanley too. I just tried it out and it didn’t work. The bottom of these bits are different. Maybe by grinding the bottom part and shaping it like these bits, you might be able to get away with it.

    Thank you for this video. It takes me back to my youth some 55 years ago when I would go with friends exploring limestone caves - we used these lamps.

      Thank you for commenting and sharing your memory. What a good memory. Exploring the caves with these? That’s just a great idea. I wish I could do that. Thank you for sharing. Now I know that I should keep this lamp as part of history and collection.

    I just got one of these lathe's that I need to restore, and I have a question, I see what looks like the chuck moving the work piece out when the tool slips off the end around 5:16 ruclips.net/video/631fusgp6o0/видео.html ie the work piece and chuck move away from the headstock into the spot the tool just left slightly. Similarly when you re-apply the tool to do another cut around 5:19 it looks like the tool pressure pushes the work piece and chuck assembly towards the left side of the lathe slightly. Is that expected for this model lathe or just some extra wear on your unit that you need to take into account when doing cuts? I ask so I am aware of what mine may do and I will have to keep in mind when I get to using it. i realize you do not have it fully bolted down, so it will shift around, but I would not have expected the motion I saw to be normal. And so I am trying to learn if that is normal for this lathe.

      Hi. Thank you for watching and for your comment. You have a good lathe if you restore it carefully. It is very accurate. Unfortunately I sold mine recently and I still regret doing so. I checked the video and I have to say that, the part that you mentioned, is actually tight enough(after the video). At the time of making the video I didn’t bolt it down because I just wanted to show a bit of it working after the restoration. The part that was a bit loose was a mistake in my end. ,( you are correct and good eyes man). I didn’t tighten the parts properly since I was still figuring it out. But later on as I got more involved and started working with the lathe, I fixed it and there was no slips. After restoring it, once you bolt it down, you have to check everything and play with it and you should be fine. Just one tip if I may, for your lathe bed, if it is very rusty, don’t dig in with rough sanding. Just remove the rust and use “0000” grit steel wool. Unless your bed is not leveled. Which I highly doubt that it is not leveled. These lathes were built to last. I hope I answered your question. And good luck with your restoration. I’m sure you’ll love it after it’s ready to go.

      @@VintageCraftsmanToolsThanks, that gives me more hope for mine once I get to it :) I have the 'i got a lathe and accessories' video of what I got on my channel...and if I ever manage to finish my jointer restoration, the lathe is supposed to be 'next' :) And then probably getting the dbit grinder cleaned up and working....gotta stop searching on craigslist and facebook marketplace...that or somehow find a bigger garage :)

      Nice. Lot of restoration and relaxation. I checked your channel. Pretty cool, you have lot of good tools. Well done. I like that jointer by the way. I was planning to restore one but I have no use for it, so I changed my mind. I completely understand what you’re saying about extra space. Man, I live in an apartment and very limited to space. I have sold so many good and rare items, or just looked the other way when I saw them for sale, just due to lack of space. I’ve restored 5-6 craftsman lathes and had to let them go because of that. Have fun with your restoration.
