STALKER 2 Should Be Talked About More & Here's WHY
In this video we review the early hours of Stalker 2: Heart Of Chernobyl and what this hardcore open world RPG is like even with the game being in its current state. Now as of this recording, stalker 2 is in version 1.1.3 so a version of the famed A-life 2.0 has been implemented so apart from the performance issues that are present in heart of chernobyl, the game is somewhat a stalker game now because of this system but is it enough to save the game from the bugs, the glitches and overall performance issues and can stalker 2 be the true definitive stalker experience?
How tf should I know broski...Here is my review on STALKER 2 and why it should be talked about more, especially in 2025!

    "You need to look past the rough edges to enjoy it" Yeah, nah, chief. This is a definive Stalker experience. Stalker fans wouldn't have had it this game any other way. The Jank is a part of a package. Which isn't to say it shouldn't be fixed mind you. But not everything can and probably will be fixed. But what we as fans need most is not weird bug fixes but A-life working as we know it. That's the lifeline of the series. My biggest gripe is that my PC can't run it. And that's just a tragedy for me as a fa.

    I'm maybe 8 missions now from the end - so 6 away from the point of no return? I've got about 110 hours in. I've had a better experience than a lot as I've had no soft or hard locked quests - no missions failing despite having completed them. But man...performance is really hit or miss. I played the first 50 hours on a pretty old MSI gaming laptop with a RTX2070 and weirdly had better performance with things turned up way past recommendations than at low settings. Maybe 4 crashes in that time, and after the last patch started having the compiling shaders hang. Picked up my game on a new MSI gaming laptop with a RTX 4070. I'm not sure if it's the rig, or where I'm at in the game but I won't go to Rostok as I'll end up dropping below 20 fps and having to save and exit. Still, when I step back and weigh what's really good against what's really bad, etc. - it's a good game. Fixed, and with the DLCs I agree it'll probably be one of those games of the decade. Which is really, really weird as it's so like the originals in heart and soul I just really don't see it transcending a niche status. In time, when modders can make it into an extraction shooter maybe.... STALKER 2 sold more copies in its first 2 weeks than all three originals did before they were rereleased.

    A-life is probably not achievable in a map the size of Stalker 2. They should stick to map regions as loadable perimeters for mutants and NPC's like old instead of a bubble of influence like now, it feels... cheesey.

    • @elizabethtischler686
      @elizabethtischler686 3 дня назад

      I'd rather have loadable gateways to other map regions with a much bigger a-life influence that feels quite a bit more lived in rather than the massive map that's too big to have a natural influence in. @@gimmedecash yes they are, I'm not so sure I recommend playing the original trilogy now due to the disappointment you will feel regarding the map of stalker 2. The Old maps and why as well as where they are placed actually makes sense vs the hodgepodge mess that they call the new stalker 2 map and it's regions i.e. the brain scorcher and how it's placed near the perimeter of the zone in the new map that if activated wouldn't allow for new stalkers to enter at all there wouldn't be any free human being in the Zone. Just one example, it's quite strange and disjointed in the fact that the CNPP or the cooling stacks are open and free for anyone to explore considering it was the HEART of the zone and the most difficult/dangerous almost impossible and reserved for the biggest roosters in the Zone.

    I love the game, it is a LOT of fun, but A-life at current form can be pretty immersion breaking. For example I get mixed in the Army vs zombies battle and I die, I load the game, zombies nowhere to be seen, I fight Army I die again, reload again, ther is no Army, nor zombies, but wild boars attacks me instead, not to mention annoying spawning in near vicinity. I always tought A-life in older games was overhyped, but now when its missing, I really appriciate how many unique situations and different outcomes it brought to the game. I remember watching Bloodsucker hunting Flesh, after the fight, he just went on its marry way. In Stalker 2 enemies agro instantly from long distances, its pretty annoying, in older games you could choose to avoid the fight, most of enemies left you alone if you were far enough, not in Stalker 2.

There is also a sound meter (the blue fuzzy bar under the compass), and things like rain actually do make it harder to hear you. Bolts can distract enemies, and moving using the "walk" key always makes you quieter, even when crouched. If your gun has subsonic rounds, it's also made even quieter to NPCs. There's definitely some balance and work still needed, but it's not TOTALLY busted, there are viable sneak strategies in the game.

    I got about 30ish hours in. When I first started playing, I would feel very tensed and stressed because I never knew what was around the corner. After about 5-10 hours I realized there was nothing around the corner, and if there was, I could see it spawn in front of me lol. This is the first game since building my PC in 2018 that I had to put on the lowest settings, and it still ran like shit (funny enough this game is what spurred me to upgrade/build a new PC, haven't tried stalker2 yet tho). Anyway I got decently far into the story, probably 3/4 the way through, but after so much walking/sprinting through a boring landscape from mission to mission, the next mission was 3KM away and I said "meh, maybe another day". I haven't played it in a month. I decided I'm gonna wait 6 months to a year and start a new game, hopefully they'll add lots of performance and AI optimization between now and then. I will say though that I got about 3 hours in before I realized that I wanted a refund. I was quite pissed at the state of the game. But once I accepted it was a hot mess and there's nothing I could do about it, I actually started enjoying it despite it's flaws (mods helped a lot here). This easily has the potential to be a 10/10 game, and I'm hopeful that within a year it will be where it needs to be. I haven't recommended any of my friends to play it, but I look forward to the day that I can. PS As far them releasing the game as an unfinished hot mess, I can cut the devs some slack as they're working in a literal warzone lol. "I got about 30ish hours in" + "I got decently far into the story, probably 3/4 the way through" => "much walking/sprinting through a boring landscape from mission to mission, the next mission was 3KM away" This game is supposed to be played in exploration mode and performing all side quests at each base, so that each base is indicated green and you fast travel between the bases for free. There's no point on the map, which is 3km away from the closest base. And the game guides you, which base supposed to be your home base at each stage of the game.

      @gimmedecash Thanks to the Unreal Engine 5 it actually Limits of what they can do with to fix the A-life system, so much so that during 1.0 of Stalker 2 they have to turn it off just to make the performance of the game to even be better than it was with A-life turn on From the information I got it the performance of the game is really bad from the NPC that are Running around the map live in the backgroumd in Stalker 2 all thanks to A-life being on using mods that was the 1.0 version of stalker 2 As for the older version of the Stalker games using A-life is still buggy because the NPC will get stuck behind of a wall for example but its a minor bug but the game have a system called Load zones when you go to a different part of the maps Because the 3 ofther Stalker games isn't a open world like how it is in Stalker 2 plus they used a Different engine for the Stalker games which is very old at this point, i don't have much information about this point but it is what I got from my experience In Clear sky however you can see a different of how it brakes the AI as you get soft locked in a quest you're doing, I haven't Played Clear sky yet so I can't tell from what I haven't Experienced yet with Clear Sky's A-life Summary: They sacrifice A-Life by turning it off in Stalker 2 for Performance to help it run better for people.

    Let me know your thoughts on STALKER 2 in the comments 👇 I'd love to hear what you have to say❗ As for my own closing thoughts on this game at this moment in time I still am mixed overall because despite the numerous glitches, bugs and performance issues.. I still find myself playing the game more and getting a ton of enjoyment out of it as well. Now I fully know that this is not the definitive experience and that it should have been given more development time but underneath all of the "rubble" there is one hell of a game in all honesty. As for the new player experience? as good as I think the game is at its core, without a proper A-Life system implemented, this is just another open world RPG tbh and not necessarily a STALKER game. I highly recommend people read some background on the A-life system and how it should work once properly implemented because THEN broski... this is a once in a generation game that will be talked about for years to come

      The names in Stalker carry some meaning. Strelok means "shooter", similar how Link in Zelda is named so, because he's the "link" between the game and the person that plays the game. Faust also carries meaning, "he who seeks forbidden knowledge". Finally, you ask, what the name Skif means? It means "resourceful" or "capable", "quick thinking on their feet", agile(?). Someone that you don't just kill. As for the the game performance? You mistakenly compare stalker to... I don't know. Path of exile? Sure. Yes. They actually work. Compare stalker, to stalker. Grab Call of Pripyat with no mods and see what we had. Some might argue Shadow of Chernobyl for story bla bla bla, but for technical comparison, COP is their "best". It's buggy as hell, and if you look up how these games ran on hardware at the time? Dear god. I mean, a-life making the game straight up freeze for a couple of seconds in areas while loading a-life, disregard that, the game wouldn't even run at 60 FPS on a 8800 GTX Ultra at 720p back then. It was ROUGH. And if your pc was more than 4 years old, it flat out couldn't run the game on release. The minimum specs were RIDICULOUS for shadow of Chernobyl. So... Yeah, stalker 2 doesn't run great, but it runs much better than the old stalker did, and it scales between much more hardware. Yeah, it runs pretty bad on a 1060, but it RUNS. On an 8 year old card! We would've begged for that sort of optimization back then... And then you wonder, is this just some sort of, I don't know, Stockholm syndrome? No no no. Now that you've tried the original stalker games without mods, and seen what we had, and known how hard IT was to run (I wouldn't be surprised if you still got stutters on modern hardware approaching any sort of area with lots of AIs), then, try to mod it. Just throw GAMMA on it. That'll blow your socks off. You'll suddenly understand the hype. The original trilogy have been modded so extensively that people genuinely argue, in good faith, that the OG games are better (because mods), but that's not fair. You can't compare two decades of thousands of modders pouring years of time into mods into what a studio can create from scratch in 5 years. The modders didn't even have to make a game in the first place! That's the point. In 10 or 20 years, stalker 2 could still be the foundation of stalker experiences, and such a modern engine, with so many possibilities, that scales so well, is a blessing from none other than mother monolith herself. You just cannot see her grand vision yet! But have faith... All hail the monolith!

Like I said in the video, I'll leave comparison to the OGs because I don't have enough experience or info to say anything on that matter, as for performance I only mention it so much because in this console generation and what games cost these days it would be at least fair to have a game that works from start to finish! Stalker 2 is nowhere near the only game to have performance issues but I get so worked up about this games performance because of my love for it underneath everything because this game can be AMAZING at times tbh. With the speed that updates are rolling out I don't expect it to take long before I myself and many others will hop back into the game and fully enjoy the version of the game that the devs intended for us to experience! ...damned monolithians...

      @@gimmedecash I'm afraid that, like stalkers of old, this game runs as well as it will on current hardware. But perhaps, if you think of it like Crysis 1, because it does a lot of the same things to hurt performance, like, you can actually find videos going into detail about things like how the skybox in unreal 5.5 is now taking almost 9 times as long to render (with the same result largely) the skybox, using volumetric clouds and temporal anti-aliasing. There are... Much more performant solutions to this. But they are also "less accurate". A volumetric cloud really is a cloud, as well as we can simulate it. Of course we can amp up the level of detail, but the basic method is the same. Crysis didn't get taken much by communities modding it, however, stalker did. I'm happy that GSC did not decide to make stalker aim to run at 4k60 on a 1080ti. It would've been a much less technically impressive game, and it's heavy use of smoke and mirror techniques to solve problems in presenting wouldve ended up being the typical barriers that prevented many nice mods in the trilogy. It would likely have been on UE4 instead. It would've been a more performant base game that probably looked similar. But by being in unreal 5.5? It'll be possible to upgrade it with more unreal 5 features down the line, and it seems like epic is really doubling down on unreal 5 being the last engine we will need. Fully focused on being competition for 3d rendering applications like blender, even competing with full on movie rendering software. How much more could we ask, in terms of graphical ambitions? This game will look godlike forever! As for the bugs? I mean, they're there, and pretty much on par with any Bethesda title, but still, it's much less severe than, e.g. stalker's menu frying cards cause it was pushing thousands of FPS because it was so basic, and had no framecap internally. Like, none. Most games have SOME ridiculously high numbers to fall back on, like 300-1000. None were present here. That's obviously long been fixed, perhaps too hard, with a 60 FPS cap throughout the entire game, that's hardcoded to binary and thus is really hard to tamper with. Therefore some players will be forced to get not legitimate copies, as steam only serves the one with the 60 FPS cap hardcoded. You swear at the monolithians now, but go play the trilogy, and pay attention to the story, and then come back to stalker 2. The monolithians are hard to feel empathy for, you will find that they are actually very important, and perhaps, the only faction in the zone that understands what is being dealt with, and what must be done. None of your choices will be easy. You will doubt yourself all the way. You won't have any friends to remind you that you're doing the right thing. And yet, you must carry through with it. Even if you fail, it was a worthy try, Skif. Thank you.

    Looking back at Indiana Jones (pause) once the hype has settled and I can look at the game more realistically I still find myself in a situation where I loved the game because it was a Indiana Jones game overall but if one was to take away the franchise name and look/compare it to some other similar linear open world treasure hunting games and you start to see some flaws in the game unfortunately. As much as I would love to sit here and say I loved the game and think its goated BROSKIs, I do ultimately think that the saving grace here is the name... without it then it would be a mediocre game at best because then what it ends up being is a graphical showcase with some action here and there lol.. Its a fun experience with some definite highs and funny moments that really fit the bill overall but yeah... it does have it's issues. But thats enough me rambling, let me know YOUR thoughts on this game because I do want to know what you awesome people also think 👇

Where the grounded human fights always felt finicky and awkward, the mecha dogfights feel a whole lot smoother. I was genuinely surprised with how much I liked the PvP of ac6, as someone who would play souls and ER in offline mode lol. The PvP takes some getting used to, but once you do it hits a spot that the story can’t possibly prepare you for. It’s truly a worthy fighting game on its own (if you don’t use double shotguns or Elden ring laser lobster tanks iykyk).

Sadly S rank can feel like rock paper scissors with solved meta builds copy pasted from the internet.
