The GOLDEN HIGH FLOW paints are not great for Miniature paints in my opinion, bur excel where you would use inks. They work well in the airbrush as well, but tent to dry hard and glossy. I find the GOLDNE SO-FLAT Great for miniature painting.
I love these colors, I use the So Flats. But I ran into an issue with them reactivating if I'm painting highlights or shadows. Very strange, but happened after well dry, though not overnight. Other than that, the price/performance is great and I only ran into that with the blue specifically.
cool review!
where did you get those paint?
Didn't watch the video yet, but yes, yes they are great in airguns! I use them all the time alone with Liquitex Inks and Contrasts.
dude - golden pints are WILDLY under-utilized by the miniature painting community - im personally a HUGE fan
golden also has a thicker line of paints called "fluid acrylics" instead of "high flow". that might have a texture thats closer to what you want
Shill much? You're sponsored by them
These paints are glossy, you will need to use a matte varnish.
These are pretty inexpensive in the US.
They are amazing paints for airbrushing and to mix with other paints to get more vibrant colors. the really shine in the airbrush or to mix with speed paint.
I've been using these for a while and a few bits of advice with them: 1. Dont use a wet pallet with these. They have a flow improver/retarder mixed in the pot so adding water makes them even more transparent. Just run them straight from the pot on a dry pallet, they're great for wet blending. 2. The paint names are the actual artist colors (since these are art colors), and are largely single pigment so they mix wonderfully, but the starter is a pain for people used to things like army painter or citadel, you can technically make most colors with the starter, it just takes knowing how to mix them. 3. The metallics are garbage for mini painting, waaaay too transparent (like 9 -10 coats over black for a semi decent base coat) 4. The bottles are expensive, but like you mentioned you get easily twice the paint in the 30ml bottles, and they sell bigger bottles too. 5. The satin finish takes oil washes like a dream. 6. There's another range from golden called So Flat that are the same colors but super matt and a wet pallette friendly consitency that might be up your alley.
Thank you so much! 1. Noted, i'll use my classic palette. Oh, i see why it is very liquid with the flow improver inside, well at least i don't have to overthin it when i'm using an airbrush. 2. Hahaha, thank you, i'm so confused when doing research on the name, there were so many with the same "Artist Color" name, even the gouache. i had to make a double take on the recording. 3. ugh, just ugh on that point. 4. yeah, even if i say i might not use it in the future, i WILL still use it to keep trying, i mean since i already got it i can still try more times, if big names has been using this paint then i might be doing it wrong. 5. oh, i've been seeing that name but didn't know whats it about, i'll check that out next time. Thanks again! this is really helpful! 🤩
The funny thing is that they are less expensive than citadel in the US.
like the video. Ultramarine blue is not the equivalent of Macragge Blue despite the name. That goes to Gothic Blue. Ultramarine Blue is the Equivalent of Altdorf guard Blue.
ah dang, thanks for the clarification, its no wonder i was wondering why the blue is different. 😁
Hey man! Have you ever done one of these videos on how to do this style on a spade marine? I’ve never really found on of those that I’ve found useful but your videos seem perfect for me to follow
Thanks! I have tried a space marine before, maybe i'll do a new video of that.
Thanks for the vid!
ayy, thanks for comment! :D :D
Hello thanks for the test ! I agree with you, the metallics from Army Painters are really good but for the base colors I will stay with AK for the great coverage.
AK is also a great option to get, it is another go-to paints for models. 😄
I picked this up last week very good product for someone starting in the hobby, and the price is just right for a starter kit. I wouls suggest you pick up some finer brushes aswell, the brush is ok that comes with it, but you will destroy it after a few models down the road, if you just use that one brush for adding primer, washes, base coat, and so on. The only thing i would say it could have replaced black with a skin tone but thats just me being picky.
@@nurby1824 oh right, the previous starter kit did have Barbarian Flesh paint, yeah that was what was missing, maybe so that they can slot in the new Brush on Primer. Haha, yeah the brush might one day get ruined, but maybe it’s just day 1 for my side. But as long as you do try and take care of the brush. All good with your opinion, thanks!
could you put the product link in the description or comments?
Sure! It is in the description now at the Product part. Enjoy!
@@omniming Thanks so much!
I got the Fanatic starter set and gave the free miniature to my niece, she now has a new hobby and I got her a starter set as well😁 (plus the Stormcast Vanguard when we went to the FLGS together!)
Wow, that is pretty neat! The starter set is going to do a lot of wonders for all of you 😁
If you can make it to a Games Workshop store they have a free mini every month. For nice / friendly kids we'd sometimes give out a few extra haha.
Nice tutorial!
a little bit of a review and tutorial at the same time, hehehe. Thanks!!!
Thank you for making this video!
☺ Always here to help. Thanks for watching! it means a lot to me!
@@omniming I am funding some miniatures that I want made. Would you be interested in painting them in your style?
any paint you recommend? so far i only tried acrylic for now... still yet to venture to lacquer paints
before you plan, make sure there is a ventilation, always have to stress that one out 😆. so far, my only recommend at this time while exploring are Mr Surfacer Primers 1500 with Mr Hobby Leveling Thinner. it covers the miniature much better than the spray primers from Citadel and even Mr DIY.
quick and nice tutorial!
big thanks! there isn't much about kitbashing for my side but i was thinking i might as well do a fast one while making something. hahah
Nice tutorial! cant wait for more cool recipe out! even for NNM, MMM, OSL and more xD
thank you so much! I do have some non Metallic Metal tutorials in my channel, feel free to check it out! but i would one day refresh that method one day, True Metallic one day i'll try that, haha! OSL will be in my list soon! :D
Nice Guides!
big thank you!
Duncan Rhodes of Malaysia in the making
😄 that made me smile reading that, hahaha! Thank you!!!
I can and have done this. Just not using alcohol markers
Nice! it should be useful if i ever need to do something quick!
@omniming metalic sharpies are great for fast and dirty gold and silver, like on a tone of Chaos Space Marines or Stormcast. Even getting it in quick and then washing saves a ton of time
You used an alcohol based ink pen, that was your mistake. For several decades people have used felt tip markers/pens to do Ork/Orc dags and checks with a felt tip pen/marker, and for getting a perfect round iris in eyes when you don't have the steadiest hand. Checks are easy, same with triangular dags, just black or red or what have you over the white undercoat, sketch out the pattern colour in the parts you want coloured, usually only need 1 coat so to speak though some of the lighter colours like reds may need a few go overs to get the right colour tone/coverage. In any case, felt tip pens have been used as a legit miniatures 'painting' technique for a great, many years.
Awesome sauce! these are useful to know! I too use pens for eyes, it sure does its job!
I've been wonder about this for years. Ty for the vid
ayyy Thanks for the comment :D ❤❤❤
Wow! Markers are fun!
thanks!!! :D ❤❤❤❤❤
This is a great video. Good to see the problems you encountered as well as what worked. Thanks for sharing. Do you use reference images when you paint? Like do you look at the anime art and follow the highlights etc off them?
Thanks so much! Yup, references are very important in this painting process, because the lighting and the color combinations are very important. I would at times also compare it side by side and see if the colors match. hope that answers the question! ^_^
Nice work bro!
Big Thanks!!!!!!
Wow! That look really good!

@@omniming - no hurry,, no worries means whenever Buddy. 🙂
Neat. I used some gundam markers on my T'au suits for a similiar effect. This seems way more difficult with all the shapes and dynamic posture. I like the metal parts as they look not as busy as most non metalic metal approaches.
True, for warhammer miniatures, i think the hard part is that they are kinda small at times, much like this model which is considered the smallest one in the units. Thanks so much! 😁❤
My gosh... I can almost taste it!
😆😆😆 Big thanks!
turned out great! love it, its a style im starting to try more and more.
