    2024 Crafter Origin Feat will make Scribe Wizards expensive inks 20% cheaper to scribe Spells into their book. Something to consider with backwards compatibility. Despite the lack of an upcast effect, some interesting daily free Spell scrolls to make are the ones with consumed material components; Magic Mouth, Continual Flame, Arcane Lock, Illusory Script, Find Familiar, Snare, Protection from Evil & Good.

    so... I never hear anyone mention life transference. hear me out. at level 5, with a decent con, it isn't going to kill you. if you are in the back lines against a big melee enemy, you shouldn't be taking damage but your buddies will be. this isn't going to just bring someone up to 1 hp, it's going to give them multiple attacks worth of life back. it's a healing spell worth casting because of the huge amount of healing it can do. better than fireball? no, but worth taking, especially if your party has little or no effective healing.

    What do you think about upcasting Major Image with a 6th level spell slot... it will now last until dispelled and doesn't require concentration. A free illusion that you can have follow you around. And if you're an illusionist you can use the 6th level feature to change it, which will only cost you an action.

Even if you give them disadvantage to hit anyone else, your not really protecting them if its still easier to attack your party then you. I'm just starting a new artificer wizard (currently lvl 2) and was planning to go abjuration wizard this time.

    I want to point out 2 main things: you need things to do when not counterspelling that doesn't drain your spells and ways to manipulate the number of buffs. For that, I recommend Swords bard for damage [with mageslayer] 18 Sorcerer 2 or Creation Bard 18 Sorcerer 2. Swords Bard: Increases AC, Weapon Damage l, at high level doesnt even burn your B.I. Creation Bard makes the components for Resurection spells and Glyph of warding. Ebberon shows us that the glyph of warding spell is a relative 5ft (see elemental vehicles) so you can use downtime to ward things you will bring with you with triggers like "Freeze Mage" to buff you or "When a ctreature I have attacked casts a spell" for a free uncounterable counterspell.

I would build up my counterspell using as many of the cool ideas you put forth, but I would also us debuffs against my enemies counterspell. My reasoning is if it's a counterspell war you want to win, then making theirs worse and your own better stands you a better chance of that.

    At level 20 you can cast invulnerability to be immune to damage for 10 minutes. Replenishing 45tHP out of combat is not much in comparison to that. What's crazy though is involunerability is an abjuration spell, so it replenishes 18HP on your ward in combat ready when your 10 minutes are up.

    It is a nice gimmick but to get both you would have to be at least 4th level with 2 levels in each and it would take 2 actions to recharge in combat. Since Mage Armor requires an action to dismiss. It is not worth taking the feat that gives this to you for the small benefit and your max would be 7 hit points at best early on which is meaningless against 4th level enemies. It just does not scale for it to be meaningful. This is just someone who came up with a cool idea not realizing it is just not practical

    • @BTDND
      @BTDND 3 месяца назад

      You already don’t need to multi class, just take a feat. Ritual casting alarm takes nearly two hours at level 8 to refill your ward and you cannot rest during that time. So if you also need a short rest you’re looking at needing to carve out 3 hours between combats

    • @Buchalter97
      @Buchalter97 3 месяца назад

      @@BTDND I went back and re-read the wording of when you refill the arcane ward. You are correct that it would take an unreasonable amount of time via Alarm to refill it, however 10 minutes at the start of the day to spawn it initially is totally reasonable. Your assertion that you can't ritual cast while resting is debatable. I'm sure many DM's would agree with you, but I personally don't think ritual casting would count as strenuous activity since it doesn't consume a spell slot. It merely requires concentration, which you could say the same thing of the type of meditation a Monk needs to regain Ki from a short rest. Ultimately, though, for me it just comes down to not wanting to spend a feat. on that type of cheese. Doesn't seem worth it unless you're in a game where the combat is very touch and go, and a short rest is about all you get between encounters.

  • @yurisei6732

    I've used this at the table quite a few times, honestly it's fine. You get it at level 18 as a single-class Abjuration wizard anyway, and the ward cap is low enough that you're rarely blocking more than one turn of damage - and there are a lot of ways to do that. A Rogue will often mitigate more total damage with Uncanny Dodge, for example. It becomes even less noteworthy in practice because so few tables are willing or able to run a full adventuring day - when you might only be getting one or two encounters per long rest, the ability to recharge up to 40 tHP between fights means a fifth or less of its theoretical peak value - and towards later levels, you may find yourself with so many superfluous spell slots that you could fill it up with higher level abjuration casts and not feel much of a loss. I'd argue that armour of shadows is still secondary to agonizing blast and pact magic as "things that make a 2 level Warlock dip nuts", even for abjuration wizards. And it may even be suboptimal to take it as a feat - any situation where you wouldn't take the Tough feat is a situation where you likely don't want to take Armour of Shadows as a feat, unless your DM very consistently does 4+ encounters, very consistently spaces those encounters out enough to fill up (so no straight back to back encounters or "responsive dungeons") and wouldn't be the type to throw more damage at you to offset the extra ward HP.

    The non-gameplay wrap kind of reminds me of a video I saw once about how a puzzle game goes from fun to frustrating in the time between seeing a solution you know will work and actually implementing that solution is very long, or if it's tedious to accomplish. It's a good idea! I have a question about XP - to be honest, I have pretty much only run one-shots or short 3-session games because I just cannot bring myself to do games with level 1 characters again. I like the idea of leveling and the expanding scope it lets you work in, but in practice (especially in west marches format, which was like all the long games anyone I knew ran over the past 10 years lmao) people pour a ton of effort into their characters and then have to worry about being downed from a single arrow or whatever. How do you think about leveling in games you run, and is there a particular system/ruleset/etc that you think gets around these issues (alternatively, would you ever just start at level 2,4,etc or something?)

    • @BTDND
      @BTDND 4 месяца назад

      I started at level 5 for this campaign, because it made sense for the characters to be immediately powerful because they were a sort of elite strike force. The last campaign I played in we started at level 2 so everyone had a bit more HP and more people had like subclass features. I have never actually used XP leveling and instead relied on milestone, generally give them levels after completing (or sometimes right before completing) major narrative arcs. My campaigns tend to have a decent amount of character death, and that’s something my players are aware of, but player death can always be a bit challenging. I don’t think there’s any single right way to handle this, though I do recommend trying to telegraph that potentially deadly locations and encounters are exactly that

    There are sorcerer Gishes, unfortunatelly only in unearthed Arcana 28. The subclass is called Stone Sorcery, it gives some defense (+1 HP each level and AC of 13+ CON MOD), a weird form of an extra attack on level 6 (as a bonus action you can put a defensive Aegis on your teammate and when someone hits them with a melee attack you can teleport to them and use reaction to make a melee attack against that attacker and it deals extra 1d10 force damage (2d10 on level 11 and 3d10 on level 17)). This subclass of course also gives profficiency with martial weapons and shields as well as allowing you to learn all the (non divine) smites and few other Gish spells. This class benefits a lot from hexblade multiclass (or at least fighter) to get a proper extra attack and ability to use CHR for weapon attacks but it exists and allows for a really interesting Gish+Support Tank character. (On later levels you get a decent damage buff to your spells and on level 18 you get an ability to target 3 people with the Aegis instead of just one which makes this subclass a very good support)

    Yes 3d6 is too much as both weapons you compared it to are melee and thus have an inherent risk to them as you are within melee range of the enemy to use them and you cant really leave without pp attack. This weapon does not have that

    I'm glad you're having fun playing your homebrew d&d and making videos. This item is absolutely stronger than a Flame Tongue or even a Holy Avenger. If what you were going for was a bow that turns any peasant into a god of archery it fair to say you nailed it. To start with a +3 bonus with +2 dex up to 24 max is arguably better than a Holy Avenger. Adding an extra 3d6 damage on top of that is wild. The range on the longbow is the best in the game giving it damage on par with a high tier melee weapon is very spicy and even higher is a little crazy. An ability that adds constant advantage is god tier. You're telling me that if my target is 600ft away under 3/4 cover and I'm poisoned I can still make a volley of normal attack rolls against them? If I'm blind or they're invisible and they're within 600ft I still know where they are and can make normal attacks against them. If a player has the sharpshooter feat this feature would make the gods weep as you fling wooden nukes across the battlefield. Advantage on normal attacks within 600ft which ignore cover with an attack bonus of likely at least +9 and damage of 1d8+3d6+18 (33). Yeah that's a good bow. The trade off of blindness when you're more than 10ft away from it is kind of kid's stuff. If my players had a bow like this they'd bathe with it and rub up against it at night. I might make an item like this come with a curse that compels the user to hunt things outside of their control, creeping into their consciousness and changing them into a divine avatar of the hunter. Or maybe -4 con. I hope this item was fun in your game and in the end that's all that matters. Keep making new items and playing homebrew I think it's the way d&d should be played.

    Frenzy (Level 3) (Bonus Action) When you enter a Rage you can Frenzy instead. For the duration of the Frenzy you get an extra attack. When the Frenzy ends, make a Constitution saving throw (8 + how many turns Frenzy lasted), if you fail the saving throw gain one level of Exhaustion. When in a Frenzy the effect of Exhaustion in suppressed. Come And Get Me (Level 3) (Bonus Action) When Raging you can make a Melee attack with your Bonus action. when attacking in this way the person hit has to use there reaction to Melee attack back. Mindless Rage (Level 6) You can't be Charmed or Frightened while Raging. If you are Charmed or Frightened when you enter a Rage, the effect ends. Intimidating Rage (Level 10) (Bonus Action) As part of entering a Frenzy pick one creature you can see within 60 Feet, that creature must make a Wisdom saving throw (8 + Strength + proficiency bonus), if they fail the saving throw it becomes Frightened. During your turn, can use a bonus action to continue the Frighten. If your turn ends without continuing the Frighten, the Frightened creature can remake the saving throw, if the saving throw is a success the effect ends. Retaliation (Level 14) (Reaction) When you take damage from a creature within melee range of you, you can use your reaction to make a melee attack against that creature. I know you did not ask but this is my fix to the berserker barbarian, please feel free what you think I should change. Thank you.
