A swatching secret revealed only in this meeting! Shhh! 08/03/24
Просмотров 31514 дней назад
Like many people, I feel knitting a 5 by 5 inch swatch is such a waste of time just to make one horizontal and one vertical measurement for your stitch and row gauges. But swatching is absolutely necessary if you want your sweater to fit. You simply must not skip it. So in this meeting I shared a secret for reducing the necessary knitting. Only people who see this video will know. So let's just...

    I really love Wally's sweater ! And now it's time for yours, Frank ! it's so nice to meet a new knitter . Jan seems to be a very interesting woman. For sure we're going to enjoy her involvement in the meetings ! And, feeling as part of the group as I feel, I would like to ask everybody about new knitting books. I love them and I would like to know if some of you all could recommend a new one. Or perhaps not just news. Hasta el sábado que viene, un saludo desde Sevilla. 🙋‍♂

    Oh no, NOT good news about everyone being sick. 😞 My husband actually had covid in 2020 , his smell and taste is barely coming back now. Thankfully he is the only real life person I know that has had it. That baby blanket is going to be a treasure , Sumner ! I also noticed yarn on a cone grew and like Cindy said, I think it is the spinning oil. Cathy is so talented , that pillow is stunning ! Collected my prize info on pillow forms 😆. Mary has been busy while gone. Sandra was brave, have thought of reconditioning a few things , just take a photo as a memory.. Wonderful job Wally ! Hope Jan becomes a regular , impressed at how quickly she knitted that sweater during the olympics !! Not to mention her talent of being able to knit bi-directional . Wow She does indeed live in a great area with resources like Ron and Suzanne in the area. Wow, not much left to your sweater, good zoom meeting knitting material. Then on to the next adventure and seeing the new design you have charted emerge and catch up with everyone's work in progresses.

    Great comparison of all the different variations. I like to do the purl on the public side version, not for how it looks on the back but as a visual cue to myself as I'm knitting to reduce the chances of accidentally knitting the ladder stitch into the main colorwork. I always like tips and techniques like that to let me read my work more and my pattern/chart less.

    I remember Ron's handy swatch idea 🙂 and seems I also remember the L shaped swatch being mentioned or I did read it on the blog or something. 🧐 Like Sumner I have bought yarn on a cone , there is clear difference before and after, it is a must measure before and after in particular with those. With my yoke I stayed with the idea of 3rds which gave me visual markers to reference but free styled my increases between them , increases never lined up , making them as invisible as I could to fool the eye . Ron with his pile of Phranckos can show an example of any technique, on the spot, for new members , just mention what part of the sweater and neckline , he has an example ! ⭐ EXACTLY FRANK !! While listening I was sure someone would mention mixing . Like Judith, I always think of needle sizes in MM (we had an exchange about how many people actually have calipers last week) Knitting from RIGHT to LEFT A U.S. SIZE 7 needle / 4.5 MM would be, PURL , K, K, PURL K, K, K, YO, K2 tog , YO, K2tog , YO, K2tog , YO , K2tog, K to end . Then, when read LEFT to RIGHT 4 YO holes = 4 2 PURL Bumps (worth .25 each) = .5

    Hello Phrancko, this video is SO USEFULL! Tnx a lot! I have one question: if I only have one main one-colour design on the front of the sweater, should I set the “beginning of the row” at the beginning of the design approximately middle of the front of the body? Won’t it be to visible middle of the front of the sweater? Or should I better move the starting-point to the side somewhere? Tnx so much for your help! I am making a top-down sweater in the round in one colour with ons huge orange flower in the middle. Kind wooly regards from Dona (from Belgium)

    • @KnittingbyPhrancko
      @KnittingbyPhrancko 21 день назад

      I would start the new color at the leading edge of the first round of the flower design and use that edge to change directions all the way down the image, even as that edge moves left and right, as indicated in the video. If you weave the end in carefully, it should not show even though it is on the front. If you added the new color at the side, it would very likely show as a peek-through where you carry it to the place it is first used. I don't see any advantage to doing that. Let me know if I haven't fuly understood your question.

      @@KnittingbyPhrancko YES, we don't really need to know MM sizes down the extent calipers measure. 😆 I was just amazed at how many of us had them or "borrowed" 🤭 them from our partner.

      @KnittingbyPhrancko 21 день назад

      Yes, it's a caliper. We discussed them in a meeting long ago and several of us went off and bought one. They are not as expensive as you might think and they measure your counted stitches very accurately with a digital readout. However, I don't really think it is necessary to measure quite so accurately. It certainly isn't an essential tool for knitters.

    Hola, ¿cómo están ? Very interesting meeting as always. Chiaogoo for me !! I want to see Jenny's fabric on the parasol. It's really stunning ! Well, Frank, you always ask if someone has someting to show. As a part of this group, it's my turn. My mother's cardigan is finished and I'll post some photos on Ravelry as you told me I could do. I hope you like it. Comments will be appreciated !!
