Whiplash - Caravan drum Intro - Tutorial and Score
Here's is a breakdown of the great drum solo intro to Caravan as used in the movie Whiplash. I break it down into sections and then play the full intro at tempo at the end of the clip. Thanks for watching and here's a link to the score I played.

Steve Smith/Max Roach Musical Drum Solo - Performed by Richard Pells
Просмотров 6 тыс.14 лет назад
This is one of my favourites drum solo's, as performed by Steve Smith in the style of Max Roach. I found it hidden away in the middle of a Vic Firth promotional video some years ago and set about working it out. Steve Smith makes it look like he's literally just wandered up to the kit and started playing around, but trying to get the playful/musical feel he achieves is so difficult...who says d...
Sting (Vinnie Colaiuta) Seven Days Playout - Performed by Richard Pells
Просмотров 9 тыс.14 лет назад
Vinnie Colaiuta's playing on Stings Seven Days is legendary. I scored out the end section some years ago and tried to get the main accents as close as I could to the original Sting "Ten Summoner's Tales" recording. Scoring it out is one thing trying to play it is another! If you want a copy of the score (Seven Days end section only), contact Richard Pells at the Drum Academy.

A brief cut time snare drum solo from Richard Pells of The Drum Academy, Leicester. UK.
slight correction, the ride cymbal is just 8th notes that alternate between ride bell and shoulder
I have the main groove down but adding in the fills is a little bit of a challenge. Any advice?
Thank the seven Gods for this video. Getting ready to tackle Caravan!!! 🥁😥
Excellent playing, but the video quality makes it a bit hard to follow. Did you score this?

Can you show how to play it a little slower and a different camera angle so I can see what notes your playing
I would like to thank you for this great video lesson. You are a good teacher.
1:26 (This is just a personal time stamp)
Please break it down
You can't learn this by ear.
Hi rich long time nice to see your still at the academy. I had lessons with you many years ago keep up the good work buddy . Have you got any social media?

I feel like this song combines every exercise from all of my drum books... all you need is to do is to practice the score of Caravan.
Doing this for my jazz semester exam. Thanks !
Not quite my tempo.

Not quite my tempo. (because mine is 50bpm :D) Thanks a lot for the video!
WHERE YOU RUSHING OR WERE YOU DRAGGING
Definitely dragging!
Awesome video!! Thanks so much!!
Thank you Eli
Here's a thought- perhaps a breakdown into sizable pieces, and an actual explanation of what each hand and foot is doing would be nice. How is everyone praising this instructional video with no instruction? This guy might be a phenomenal drummer, but his teaching grade is a D-
Agreed. You can't learn a drum part by ear correctly with this much amount of details and technically.
thankss
im pretty sure the cymbal strokes arent matching with the original beat. i think there is something wrong on the cymbal strokes
Not quite my tempo but good shit

This like to dislike ratio is great
The original score that I work out and I'm playing on the video is here: (www.mediafire.com/file/5jyr7cc7pccvttk/Walkabout_Score.pdf/file). The 32nd note triplet can be replaced with 2 x rights as 32nd notes, like an appoggiatura. The sticking for beat 3 would then be RRLRL. Hope that makes sense.
I'm getting the hang of it. I might post a video of me playing this. Thanks for the tutorial 👍
Thank you!
Parabéns pelo trabalho amigo sucesso! Brasil!
Im getting the hang of the main beat. Its just those toms and the last fill that is annoying me. Great tutorial 👌

Well done, what drum set are you using, it sounds amazing.
very cool!
0:35 basically a rhythm nightmare
It’s pretty easy to learn if you just take the ostinato and the hands and practice them on their own and put them together, with that method it took me like 10 minutes to learn it
Not gonna lie the slowed version is kinda chill lol
i can do everything except the left foot high hat mirroring with the right hand aaaaaah it completely sends me on a rhythmic trainwreck
Most helpful video I have found. Please, it would be wonderful if you did a part 2.
Can you do the Jazz traditional handle i know you can do it 😉.
Very niceeeee 😍
This is such a great tutorial. Well done Sir
For real he didn't even say anything he just played it
Great video!
